Math Project 4 Assignment is worth 50 points

Ticket Sales
Living in or near a metropolitan area has some advantages. Entertainment opportunities are almost endless in a major city. Events occur almost every night, from sporting events to the symphony. Tickets to these events are not available long and can often be modeled by quadratic equations.

Application Practice Each problem is worth the points stated at the end of each problem part below In order to earn full credit for each problem part, you need to do the following: 1. You need to show your work and explain how the solution was obtained. (Zero points earned if only the answer is given and no work is shown) 2. You need to use Equation Editor when writing out your math equations and math operations. (A deduction of .5 points per problem part if EE is

not used)
3. You need to submit your paper in a neat and organized manner. (A

deduction of 1 point per problem part that is unorganized, difficult to read or has many grammatical errors. Write your statements in complete sentences using proper grammar)

**Noteif you only show an answer and do not explain or show your work behind the solution details, you will earn a zero for that part of the problem
Answer the following questions. Use Equation Editor to write mathematical expressions and equations. First, save this file to your hard drive by selecting Save As from the File menu. Click the white space below each question to maintain proper formatting. 1. Suppose you are an event coordinator for a large performance theater. One of the hottest new Broadway musicals has started to tour and your city is the first stop on the tour. You need to supply information about projected ticket sales to the box office manager. The box office manager uses this information to anticipate staffing needs until the tickets sell out. You provide the manager with a quadratic equation that models the expected number of ticket sales for each day x. ( x = 1 is the day tickets go on sale).

Tickets = -0.1x 2 + 12x + 11

a. Does the graph of this equation open up or down? How did you determine this? (8 points-show work) b. Describe what happens to the tickets sales as time passes. (4 points) c. Use the quadratic equation to determine the last day that tickets will be sold. (4 points-show work) Note. Write your answer in terms of the number of days after ticket sales begin. d. Will tickets peak or be at a low during the middle of the sale? How do you know? (4 pointsshow work) e. After how many days will the peak or low occur? (4 points-show work) f. How many tickets will be sold on the day when the peak or low occurs? (4 points-show work) g. What is the point of the vertex? How does this number relate to your answers in parts e. and f? (4 points- show work) h. How many solutions are there to the equation 0.1x 2 points-must answer How do you know)

+ 12 x + 11 = 0 ? How do you know? (4

i. What do the solutions represent? Is there a solution that does not make sense? If so, in what ways does the solution not make sense? (4 points-show work)

2a) Suppose ticket sales at another theater are represented by the quadratic equation : Tickets = 10( x 1) 2 + 40 where x equals number of days and x is >0. When you graph this equation explain what happens after 3 days? (5 ptsbe sure to explain with details) 2b) When looking at the graph of the equation in 2a above what is the maximum value of ticket sales that can be achieved AND what day does this occur on? (5 ptsBe sure to show/explain your work).
