AEROELASTIC RESPONSE OF BLADED DISK ASSEMBLIES Calibration of the unsteady flutter computation chain for aerodynamical dumping predictions of a compressor blisk

Company General Overview

Located in the Walloon region, Techspace Aero designs, develops and produces modules, equipment and test cells for aeronautic and space engines. Partner to the worlds major engine manufacturers, Techspace Aero has been involved in the majority of the most important aerospace programs over the decades. Thanks to its highly skilled workforce, the company takes in charge complete systems right from the preliminary design stage. It provides its clients with innovative, integrated solutions, which continually improve their own performance.

Research Context
In the frame of the European FP7 Future project, TA proposes a final thesis subject entitled as Calibration of the unsteady flutter computation chain for aerodynamical dumping predictions of a compressor blisk. Safran group has developed a chain to perform unsteady flutter computations based on the weak coupling approach, which involves assumptions to be verified by a dedicated analysis. In the frame of the Future project there are tests performed at the EPFL facility on a compressor blisk cascade in which blades oscillate. The experimental results of these tests will be used as reference to calibrate the Safran numerical unsteady chain. The final thesis subject is split into two parts: First a sensitivity analysis is necessary in order to determine which parameters influence most the final result. The parameters that will be investigated include mesh, numerical models, turbulence models and post-processing. Once the relevant parameters that influence most the result are chosen, their most appropriate value should be defined based not only on the best match with the EPFL experiments, but also on the level of physics that they influence. The best set will be also tested at the cascade rig predictions in the frame of the Future project. The expectations of this study at TA are first to gain a better control of the flutter chain developed by Safran, then to optimise the chain for the TA needs and finally to use the chain for the compressor rig computations.
