Two Students Recognized for the Daniel J. Edelman/PRSSA Award


Harkeet Pannu wins nationwide student public relations competition
CHICAGO, Ill., March 22, 2012 Edelman, the worlds largest public relations firm, has named winner Harkeet Pannu from Louisiana State University and runner-up Gabrielle Hoyt from Auburn University as the recipients of the 2012 Daniel J. Edelman/Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) Award. Based on a nationwide competition, Pannu and Hoyt demonstrated strong public relations skills in their submissions, recommendations and writing samples and exhibited leadership and dedication with their local PRSSA chapters. The Daniel J. Edelman PRSSA award recognizes an outstanding student who best demonstrates the leadership, commitment and strong work ethic exemplified by my father to be successful in a career in public relations, said John Edelman, managing director of Edelmans global engagement and corporate responsibility. About the Winners Winner Harkeet Pannu is a senior at Louisiana State University (LSU) in Baton Rouge, La., where he is pursuing a double major in public relations and biochemistry and minoring in biology, business administration, chemistry and film and media arts. Presently, Pannu is the president of his schools PRSSA chapter and a production intern at LSU University Relations. He is also involved in campus activities as resident assistant to Residential Life, member-at-large of Belle Terre Civic Association and group leader for the Honors College Service Initiative. Pannu will receive a $500 cash award along with a paid, three-month internship at one of Edelmans U.S. offices. After starting his internship, he will receive an additional $1000 cash bonus. Runner-up Gabrielle Hoyt is a senior at Auburn University in Auburn, Ala., where she majors in public relations. Hoyt, PRSSAs former chapter president, public relations director and founder, currently creates stories for her campus annual magazine and monthly newsletter. As runner-up, Gabrielle will receive a $500 cash award and will be offered an interview for an internship with Edelman. About the Award The Daniel J. Edelman/PRSSA Award, named for the chairman and founder of Edelman, has been presented annually since 1990 to PRSSA student members who have demonstrated public relationsrelated achievements, activities and recommendations from faculty members and industry professionals. Award recipients are evaluated on creativity, attention to detail and writing skills, as well as interest in global citizenship and digital acumen.
