COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS ON EFFICIENCY OF DIESEL AND LPG (LIQUEFIED PETROLEUM GAS) OPERATED JEEPNEYS IN AYALA AVENUE, MAKATI CITY Statement of the Problem This study requires the researcher to answer questions especially: a. What are factors affecting the performance of diesel and LPG operated jeepneys? b. What are the environmental effects of the usage of diesel and LPG operated jeepneys?
c. Does diesel or LPG operated jeepneys are fuel efficient?

d. Does diesel or LPG operated jeepneys have less engine maintenance? e. What are the advantages and disadvantages of diesel and LPG operated jeepneys? f. What are the possible recommendations for the disadvantages of diesel and LPG operated jeepneys?

Objectives of the Study The study specifically aims: 1. To evaluate the following factors affecting on the performance of diesel and LPG operated jeepneys a. Determine the engine performance

b. Evaluated the cost acceptability c. Environmental effect gas emission d. Fuel efficiency e. Engine maintenance 2. To determine the advantage and disadvantages of using the diesel compared to LPG operated jeepneys
3.

To propose possible recommendations for resulting disadvantages of using diesel compared to LPG operated jeepneys.

Importance of the study Jeepneys have become an iconic symbol of Filipinos resourcefulness and determination. They have been providing the cheapest means of commuting from one place to another for several decades now, but are also notorious air polluters. This study will be conducted in order to evaluate the efficiency of LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) operated jeepney compare to diesel operated jeepney in terms of its cost, maintenance environmental effects and engine performance. This will benefit the jeepney operators regarding in their daily income. This study will also benefit the persons behind the environmental protection. By determining which of the two public utility vehicles have good impact to the in the environment like lessening the emission of polluted gas in the air. It will also benefit the daily commuters such as

student, workers and others. This will reduce the fare they are paying every time they go to one place to another.

Scope and Limitation The study will focus primarily on the two kind of jeepney operating in Makati City. These types of jeepneys are the LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) and the traditional diesel operated jeepneys. The respondents are the jeepney operators which operating the LPG jeepneys and diesel jeepneys at Ayala Avenue Makati City.

Expected Output The expected output of the study is determining which of the two types of jeepneys; LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) and the traditional diesel operated jeepneys in terms of their engine performance, cost acceptability, environmental effect gas emission, fuel efficiency, engine maintenance. This study will also determine the advantages and disadvantages of LPG and diesel operated jeepneys based in perceptions of the operators.

METHODOLOGY Sampling Frame The samples are the jeepney operators that are using diesel operated jeepneys and LPG operated jeepneys. It will be conducted in Cavite and Manila.

Sample size Determination: The number of units in a population to be studied. The sample size should be big enough to have a high likelihood of detecting a true difference between two groups. In order to prove that a process has been improved, you must measure the process capability before and after improvements are implemented. This allows you to quantify the process improvement and translate the effects into an estimated financial result.

Survey Design A procedure or plan drawn up before any data is collected to obtain a sample from a given population. It is composed of survey questionnaire for the possible respondents.

Definition of Variables The independent and dependent variable covered in the study are shown in table 1. The independent variables are the diesel operated jeepneys and LPG operated jeepneys. The dependent variables are the analysis in terms of engine performance, cost acceptability, Environmental effect gas emission, Fuel efficiency and their Engine maintenance. Table 1. List of independent variables Independent variables Kinds of fuel used

Table 2. List of dependent variables Dependent variables Determine the engine performance Evaluated the cost acceptability Environmental effect gas emission Fuel efficiency Engine maintenance

Data Coding Data were analyze statistically. Data Analysis The data will be analyzed through different statistical tools. That provide simple summaries about the sample and the measures. Together with simple graphics analysis,

they form the basis of virtually every quantitative analysis of data. The simplest way to find out qualitatively the correlation is to plot the data.
