Standard Education in Pakistan

The standards of education in government school are very low and deteriorating day by day. We have noticed that the result of government schools in board examination is very poor. Over the years the results are becoming poor and poorer but institutions are showing fake results, The first reason behind this performance is that students want to do short cuts. Therefore they do not work hard and when the exam starts they try their short cuts, If it works they get success and if not they fails. They second reason behind this performances is that the classes in government schools are over crowded. The teachers could not give attention to all the students .That is why the teacher as well as students loses their interests in study. The thirds reason is the extreme work load on teachers. Almost all the schools in government sectors have shortage of teachers as a result the teachers have to take eight periods a day. Therefore he can not do justice with his job and the result is this. Another big reason is the show off quality in our society .The people who have money (Which I think every one has) send their intelligent children to the private schools and their dull or less intelligent one to the public (Government) Schools .Since students in government schools are already less intelligent they show poor results . Also the reason behind this poor performance is the attitude of the students. When a teacher gives some attentions to a student and he starts performing well, after some time the teacher try to improve the performance of other students, the first student feels negligence and get discourage or becoming afraid of losing his position he compels his parents to shift him to a private school .Thus government schools loose a good students and the credit goes to private school. Many of students belong to poor families therefore their parents send them to government (Public) Schools. As education in government schools is free the parents as well as the students do not take tensions about results rather the parents ask their wards to run their own small business in evening which also helps the students to lose their interest in studies

Contract system is also very big reason in the poor and low standard education in government schools .The teachers appointed on contract basis feel job insecurity therefore they look for better or secure jobs in the country or abroad when the get the job their post remains for years Low salary package is another problem because teachers all the time thinks his or her own problems (Managing home budged) as he becomes unable to live better as to get good facilities of Hiring, Food (Balanced-diet), Medical. Conveyance to reach job point therefore when demand of his or her ward becomes unable to manage so all the time he becomes serious and appears to be confused and he completes his job as a fatigue rather with joy. It results lack of interest in his duties. In the end I have some suggestions: 1: First the government should stop free education immediately at least in the early stages i-e up to higher secondary level. 2: Secondly the government should impose high certificate fees so that the students and parents should think ten times before leaving the school. 3: The government should impose fine on the students and parents separately who show poor performance in exams. 4: Another suggestion is that the government should limit the number of students in each class or section 5: One suggestion is that the work load on a teacher should be lessen with immediate effect 6: The last suggestion is that the contracts system should be abolished and all the vacancies should be filled through open competition.
morally all over the country.

Education standards downslide in Pakistan Pakistan education standards Islamabad, Sep 09: International Literacy Day is being observed today (Monday) across the world with the theme "Literacy and Health" but the state of education in Pakistan paints a dismal picture.

September 8 was proclaimed International Literacy Day by UNESCO on November 17, 1965. It was first celebrated on 1966 to highlight the importance of literacy to individuals, communities and societies.

International Literacy Day, 2008, has a strong emphasis on literacy and epidemics with a focus on communicable diseases such as HIV, Tuberculosis and Malaria, some of the world's most important public health concerns.

Education is the main vehicle for socio-economic development but, unfortunately about half of adult population in Pakistan cannot read and write. Pakistan is sixth most populus country of the world. Due to rapid population growth and inability of the formal education system to bring all children into school, illetrate polulation has increased from 22 million in 1961 to 48 million by 2005. It is feared that by 2015, illetrate population in Pakistan may rise to 52 million.

In the area of education, Pakistan is lagging behind other countries of South Asia, even lower than Nepal, Bangladesh and Maldives. Pakistan has been spending less on education as copmared to other countries in the region.

According to Education for All Global Mointoring Report 2008 by UNESCO, Pakistan is spending 2.4 per cent of its GDP on education against the UNESCO-recommended norm of a minimum of 4 per cent and against 3.8 per cent spent by India, 7.5 per cent by Maldives, 4.7 per cent by Iran and 3.4 per cent by Nepal.

Out of 2.4 per cent only 1.93 per cent of GNP is being spent on education in real terms and only 11 per cent of the total education budget is allocated for the higher education sector. The total education budget is needed to be increased to a minimum of six per cent as recommended by UNESCO for developing countries with at least one-third of it going to the higher education sector.

The reason behind the current state of affairs is lack of political will and half-hearted efforts by the government which can be gauged by the fact that the portfolio of the education ministry is vacant since the PML-N ministers' walk out from the cabinet on the judges' issue.

Though, 16 major political parties of the country on February 5 this year had committed in a Joint Declaration on 'Education For All in Pakistan' to increase the present allocation of the education budget from 2.4 per cent to 4 per cent of the GDP within the next three years.

But the ruling coalition contrary to its claims after coming into power slashed 5.7 billion from the fourth quarter of the last years' budget of Higher Education Commission (HEC).

The unexpected cut in the HEC's budget badly affected the universities which had no savings and even the salaries for the months of April and May 2008 had been paid after withdrawing money from Pension Funds, Students Fund, Reserve Fund and taking loans.

The prolonged absence of education minister greatly affected the ongoing projects of the ministry, including education policy, implementation of new curriculum and other issues, which could be resolved in an amicable manner if it would be on the priority list of the government.

Abstract

Low literacy rate and poor quality of education are the major drawbacks of the educational system in Pakistan. Our education is influenced by a number of factors that cause this downfall. Some of them are more prominent, such as low enrollment and high dropout rate at the primary level, different standards of education, low budget allocation for education sector, political interference, low quality of curricula and textbooks, rapid growth in population, poverty and unemployment, poor quality of teachers and irrelevant induction of duties, and our substandard evaluation system. Although the government claims for some bold steps to overcome these problems, there is still room for improvement.

Solutions for Educational System: Estimating the value of education, the Government should take solid steps on this issue. Implementation instead of projecting policies, should be focused on. Allocation of funds should be made easy from provinces to districts and then to educational institutes. Workshops must be arranged for teachers. Foreign states are using LSS system. This should be inducted in Pakistani schools to improve the hidden qualities of children. Technical education must be given to all the classes. The education board of Punjab have projected a plan to give tech- education to the children of industrial workers. Promotion of the primary education is the need of time. Teachers, professors and educationists should be consulted while devising any plan, syllabus or policy. The state seems to give up her responsibility and totally relying on private sector. The need of time is to bring education in its original form to masses. Burdening a students with so much books will not work as he will not understand what the world is going to do next moment. Education is the only cure of the destability in the state and can bring revolution through evolution, by eradicating the social evils. This is how to remove illiteracy in Pakistan.
