NISA is an independent, non-commercial and non-political organization registered in January 2007 by the Ministry of Justice.

NISA acts as research and information center on Euro-Atlantic issues and organizes school sessions, conferences, courses, roundtables, study visits, essay competitions etc. Being an independent organization, works with students, young researchers, professors and wider public in order to increase public awareness about the Euro-Atlantic Security. NISA organizes training sessions twice a year (winter and summer) concerning the topical questions of Euro-Atlantic Security since 2003. Since then there had been 400 local and foreign participants, including experts from 38 countries, different lectures had been presented by the experts on early defined topic for each session and relevant discussions had been held. The geography of NISA alumni varies from USA to Afghanistan covering NATO member countries, Partnership for Peace nations, Mediterranean Dialogue, Istanbul Cooperation Initiative and Greater Middle East region. NISA has proved itself as an important venue and platform for constructive discussions and deliberations on the topics of strategic importance for the Euro-Atlantic Partnership and NATO. NISA sessions being instrumental in networking of young experts have stimulated further researches and academic activities among them. In the meantime, NISA has contributed to the greater extent possible to raising public awareness on Euro-Atlantic and NATO related security issues within Azerbaijan and in the broader Euro-Atlantic area. In 2011, NISA has conducted its regular Winter and Summer Sessions. The Winter Session was dedicated to NATOs recently adopted Strategic Concept, entitled NATOs New Strategic Concept: Perceptions and Challenges. During this session, participants and speakers tried to understand what this document really means, review the new unconventional security threats with which alliance is confronted currently, try to highlight the changes and transformations through which Alliance goes. The Summer Session of 2011, was totally dedicated to the Middle East turmoil and uprisings, which strongly attracted international communitys attention and is still goes on. Participants selected for the session were able to discuss the roots and causes of this events, learn the situations in particular countries, hear NATOs official and international reactions to this events, discuss the perspective future in this countries. Between the sessions, NISA organizes number of academic activities, such as: public lectures, simulation games, debates, discussions and research initiatives. Among NISAs distinguished speakers were officials for Ministry of Foreign Affairs of The Republic of Azerbaijan, Center for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy, Baku State University, OSCE and etc. NISA has organized series of simulation games and debates at Baku State University, Qafqaz University and at Academy of Public Administration under The President of The Republic of Azerbaijan.
