Assignment #2 Marc Ernest Padua 5001082198 Sociology 101 Section 3008 In a world we live in today, we are constantly judge

by our actions, emotions, but mostly how we appear to others which are our race or ethnicity. No matter what we do, were always judged upon by our appearance which can be great but yet cruel. Does race or ethnicity really affect your life? Believe it or not, in a society like ours today, race and ethnicity plays a big role in our everyday lives. In the article, Welfare Policymaking and Intersections of Race, Ethnicity, and Gender in U.S. State Legislatures, Beth Reingold and Adrienne R. Smith demonstrate that race and ethnicity affects our welfare policy in America. On their addictive approach, they approach hypothesis by identifying the female legislators, regardless of race, will lessen the restrictions and components of the welfare reform. In an intersectional approach, they also identify that legislative women, different in color, have a much stronger effect on state welfare. In conclusion, colored women can lessen the regulations of a welfare policy. I can see this becoming an issue of America. What happens if they can actually persuade the government into passing a law that can severely affect us? In another article, Race/Ethnicity, Sleep Duration, and Diabetes Mellitus: Analysis of the National Health Interview Survey, the authors identifies that race and ethnicity plays a role on our daily sleep/health. 29, 818 Americans enrolled in a household interview survey which they will provide their race and background of sleep. Eighty five percent ascribed as white Americans and the other fifteen percent ascribed themselves as black. Most of the participants were the average age of forty seven years old. More than half of these participants were actually females. In result black and white participants who sleep more than eight hours of sleep were most likely to have diabetes than participants who reported six to eight hours of sleep. In conclusion, Compared to the white participants, blacks are more likely have diabetes regardless of being a long sleeper or short sleeper. In my opinion, I am concern that the peoples diet also played a role on this experiment. They should conduct their experiment with people who were in shape.

Last article, Seven-Year Patterns in US Cigar Use Epidemiology Among Young Adults Aged 18-25 Years: A Focus on Race/Ethnicity and Brand, the author identify the cigar use of young adults. They conducted the first cigar use, how much they use it, and using a top five cigar. In results, the white non Hispanic men population use of cigars has increased from twelve percent (2002) to thirteen percent (2008). Blacks or whites that were non Hispanic race have a higher level risk of behavior. In result, they conclude that this may affect cigar brand market which affects the income. No matter of what race, the cigar/cigarette population is increasing little by little which can affect the markets of tobacco. In conclusion, race and ethnicity plays the biggest role in our daily lives today. Our race and ethnicity is what makes us all unique and evolves society each and every day. How different your life would be if you were a different race/ethnicity?
