Tuesday 27 March 2012 Dart Energy and Marias Farm Veggies win gas innovation award Dart Energy together with Marias Farm Veggies Pty Ltd, have won the FutureGAS Innovation Award for 2012. The award is for the combined heat and power Marias Farm Veggies glasshouse project. We are very pleased to have won the award with Marias Farm Veggies, Robbert de Weijer, Dart Energy Australia CEO said today. The award recognises that coal seam gas development can co-exist with, as well as facilitate, sustainable food production, Mr de Weijer said. In December, Dart Energy announced its first gas sales agreement in Australia in the Fullerton Cove area near Newcastle with Marias Farm Veggies (MFV). MFV is a state-of-the-art horticultural glasshouse project that will grow tomatoes, capsicum and cucumbers. Subject to commercial gas flows being achieved as part of a proposed production pilot in Fullerton Cove, Dart will supply natural gas to MFV from a small number of wells in its licence area around Fullerton Cove. The gas will be used for a combined heat and power (CHP) plant for glasshouse climate control purposes. The local gas supply to the combined heat and power plant is a very sustainable operation, Mr De Weijer said. Excess power will be distributed to the grid and nearly all CO2 produced from the combined heat and power plant will be distributed to the plants to significantly improve crop yields and plant robustness.. Produced water from Darts CSG development will be treated and re-used in the glasshouse facility, he said. The glasshouse project is expected to be completed by 2013, subject to approvals, and will generate 125 jobs in the Newcastle area or up to 200 if the project is expanded. Dart Energy expects to start work on its coal seam gas production pilot at Fullerton Cove shortly once formal approvals have been received. Dart Energy is committed to providing gas to the domestic market in NSW thereby easing the pressure on households from rising gas and electricity prices, Mr De Weijer said. The FutureGAS award will be presented on 28 March. FutureGAS is the annual gas conference organised by Gas Today magazine.
