Introduction: This project was my first formal teaching experience with adult students.

As a degree student, I taught English for Communication 1 class. This class consist of five students. I was asked to teach them about forum as they will be having their forum presentation the following week. I break my teaching into four parts. The 1st part was about definition of a forum and the suggestion of topics for the students forum presentation. Next, I explained to the students about the dos and donts in a forum presentation. In the 3rd stage I played a video and ask the students to view the video and at the same time I ask them to list down the strength and weaknesses that they can see in the video. This is to check their comprehension level on my teaching and lastly we analysed the video together and discussed it. These teaching experience and reflection project have provided me the foundations for effective teaching and inspire the wish to learn more about classroom management so that I will have a good foundation in managing a classroom. Improvement Matter: Upon reflecting my teaching I found out that I had problems in managing my time. This is due to the students action that was late for the class. Furthermore, my friend who was assigned to teach the students took 50 minutes instead of 40 minutes that was planned. I was left with only 30 minutes and I have to rush to complete what I planned for the day. Lacking of time also forced me to skip an activity that I have planned for the students. Apart from that, my slides and video was very hard for the students to comprehend. Thus, the students didnt get the gist of my teaching and they end up not doing well in their forum presentation activity which was held at the end of the class. I also sensed that, I did not have any background knowledge of the students and their proficiency level in English. I didn't understand the fact when students enter the classroom, they come with varying degrees of experience with and knowledge of the language. I manage to find out that the slides that I prepare for the students were hard and so does the example of the video that I showed the students. Lastly, while reflecting on my teaching I also found out that I did not encourage the students to take part. I did not use any reinforcements to boost up their confidence to answer me and these limits students participation in classroom discussion.

Self Critique: As we were having problem in managing our time and to save time tend to speak very fast, and the students could not understand me. Apart from that, I also feel that I did not give proper wait-time to the students to answer my question. This is also due to the time constraint. I did not give a chance to the students to process what they have heard and formulate answers in their mind. Lastly, I didnt allow and urge all the students to take part. I was concentrating on a particular student and left out the others. Next, the slides and video that I ready to aid my teaching was hard for the students to comprehend. This leads the students to be quiet in the class and discussion about the video that the students watched. Besides that, I did not have any background knowledge about the students level of proficiency. Even though, our group went and meet Dr.Intan and asked about the students level, but we interpret their level as intermediate and the materials that we prepare doesnt cater the students level. I was giving more attention to a particular student because she was a bit active than the rest of the students in the class. I failed to encourage and boost their enthusiasm, involvement, and willingness to take part and at the same time create an opportunity for learning. I failed to engage all students, keep them talking to each other about the topic that I was teaching.

New Awareness My reflection on my teaching made me aware of many things. First and foremost, a teacher should manage her time well in the classroom. For instance, when the teacher did not have ample time to finish the lesson that they planned in their lesson plan, they should always bear in their mind that the students comprehension level on the lesson is much more important than completing the lesson. Therefore, teachers should react in action by teaching students in a simpler way that can save time but at the same time helps students to understand the lesson. At times, things didn't happen as what we predicted, thereupon we need a second plan to tackle the situation. For an example, my students came late to the class and as a result of that I couldn't finish many things that I planned to. I planned to have an activity with them but the activity is very time-consuming, thus I planned to cut down the activity. If I was aware of these things, i can come up with a back-up plan in which I can create simple activities that the students can try to I can revive back students learning desire. Subsequently, I became more aware of the needs of using creative and authentic materials in teaching. Initially I was

against the usage of games and others materials in teaching. I think that a lesson should be conducted in a formal way and no need for the students to be having fun in the class but this particular lesson was truly an eye-opener for me. I feel that using instructional aids can help to keep up students interest on the lesson, and at the same time create a pace of change in the lesson. It can also help aid the students in the process of understanding and producing the language. As I reflect back on my teaching, I see that the students partially understand my teaching. The student was too bored and I realize that if I using those creative and fun materials I can engage back the students in the learning process and they will not be bored as they seemed in my class and those creative approaches can be a tool to motivate the students. Next, I realized that a teacher must be aware of the students background. We must always take into account, the students prior knowledge, intellectual development and their cultural background. This information will give us with a hint to prepare a good and reliable lesson plan. For instance if the students have a low-level of proficiency the teacher can design a creative and creative lesson plan and materials to get the students to be attracted to the lesson. On contrary, I realized that I have to improve on my reinforcement skills. Praising students can help to motivate them to participate in the discussion.

Resolution : I plan to create a good lesson with a good time management. This includes a back-up plan or also known as reflection in action. I must be prepared to In order to get all the students to take part in the activity that I prepare, I plan to use (positivereinforcement), valuable rewards and points for students participation in the class. Reinforcement or encouragement also plays an important part in managing the classroom. Extrinsic rewards are considered as an essential part of reinforcement in encouraging learning. Consequently, students are also able to work confidently and comfortably in an environment that they enjoy. As teachers, our goal should be for our students to work hard and behave well because they are proud of doing so. These behaviors may include participation in activities, completing projects or working well together. Reinforcements are a good way for teachers to give rewards to the students. These valuable rewards is to encourage the students to take part in the classroom activity. I also would like to use a variety of teaching methods, apart from lecturing. I feel that

using variety of teaching methods and small-group discussions can prompt the passive and slow learners to generate ideas and they will be able to give to the lesson as well.I can improve the effectiveness of a lecture by incorporating active learning activities within it, such as in class exercises and group exercises. When a group discussion or other group activities being organised, students will be actively taking part than just listening to the lectures. Using creative and variety of methods in teaching emphasises on developing students analytical and critical thinking. Through active learning, both students and teachers take part in the learning process, and they can receive more and faster feedback.

Future Actions : In the future, I plan to make my lesson more rich and diverse. Therefore, i must plan my lesson plan very carefully and i must take into consideration about the students background and the amount of the knowledge they posses about the topic that i am going to teach. I plan to stimulate an interesting and more lively classroom environment. By doing this, my students will have a better chance of understanding my teaching . Being a creative teacher encourages students to be creative learners too. In order to succeed in the future, i must read plenty of books about teaching and gain some ideas from there. I must also find interesting activities from the internet and other sources. Other than that, i must allow question and answer session in the classroom. Question and answer teaching gives the student the opportunity to reflect his inquiries and needs for further information. At the same time, through this question and answer session I can gain more understanding and insight on my teaching and the class progress.
