CHAPTER A PRINCE

WITH GOD

w. Would

See Jesus THE CROSS

Jesus said, "Why call ye me Lord, Lord, and do not the things that I say?" The Catholics pray; The Hindus pray; the Protestants pray; the Moslems pray; but they don't surrender their all to Jesus. The Lord tells us to present our bodies to Him as a living sacrifice, (Romans 12: 1). We don't even keep the first commandment until we surrender our all to Jesus, We are commanded to love the Lord with all of our strength, all of our heart, and all of our soul. The reason that the Lord says so much about giving money is that our money represents our strength. We give our strength, energy and time for money. Life is made up of time. When the angel touched Jacob's thigh, He touched the spot that wrestled against the Lord. He broke the part that rebelled against Goel's will. When the part that rebelled surrendered, Jacob became a prince with God. He prevailed in prayer. That is why God touches our purse. He must have our "thigh" surrendered to Him, if we are to have power with God. When Jesus touched the young ruler's purse, He touched a sore spot. He was going to break the part that was not surrendered. The "thigh" must be surrendered to Jesus. YOUR BEST I was told that a young woman was walking toward
1

the Ganges River in India. She had a son on each side. Someone asked her where she was going. She said she was going to sacrifice to her god. "What are you going to sacrifice?" said the stranger. "I am going to sacrifice my oldest son in the Ganges River," answered the woman. "Why don't you give your youngest son?" she was asked, "Your older son is healthy and strong. He can make you a living. Your younger son is sickly and will soon die." She quickly looked at him in surprise. "Is that the way you people in America do? Do you give your God the worst that you have, or do you give him your best? We give our god our best," answered the woman. Yet we go over there and try to convert those people. The Lord does not want anything to come between us and Him. He does not want us to drown our children. We must dedicate them to the Lord as a living sacrifice. Abraham came to the test. He was told to offer Isaac as a burnt offering. When God saw he was willing, He accepted that as if it were done. As far as God was concerned, Abraham had given up his son. The Lord gave him the son back. He meant more to him than ever before. If we come to the place that we are willing to put God before our children, when we dedicate them to God to be in His service, then when He sees our heart, He will let us keep them and raise them for His work. HANNAH PRAYED

Hannah told the Lord that if He would give her a son, she would give him to the Lord as long as he lived. After Samuel was born, she dedicated him to be in God's service as long as he lived. You would have less 2

trouble with your children if you were willing to give them to the Lord. He wants that dearest to your heart. He wants to be first in your life. We must give up everything to Him. Pharaoh told Moses he could go out of the land to sacrifice, if we would leave his little ones in the land. That was unacceptable to God. Moses was not willing to go worship God unless he took the children. The devil does not mind us becoming Christians, if we will leave our children in the world. God must have our all. Pharaoh told Moses that he could go and worship the Lord if he would leave his cattle in the land. Moses refused. That kind of service will not please the Lord. He must have our cattle and all of our natural possessions. They all must be' dedicated to the Lord. The people of the Early Church sold all that they had and laid it at the Apostle's feet. If we become willing to do this, the Lord will let us keep the possessions and use them for Him. Pharaoh told Moses he could go and sacrifice if he would not go very far away. That was also unacceptable. The Lord does not want us to keep one foot in the world and one over in His service. We must be 100% dedicated to His cause. We must be loyal to Him alone. He will touch our "thigh," which is our strength, and our resistance. Then we will cease wrestling. You come to the end of yourself. God has your all. It was a beautiful sight to see the little children march around the altar in a penny march. They dropped their pennies in the building fund; but some of them are now 60 and 70 years old; and they have a beard on their face. They are still marching around the altar, giving pennies. That is all they have ever surrendered 3

to Jesus. They spend their dollars on themselves.

They don't love God with all of their heart, all of their soul, and all their strength. NOAH PUT GOD FIRST

In the days of Noah they ate, they drank, they married and gave in marriage, until the very day that the flood came and destroyed them all. It is the same today. People are drunken on the cares of this world. Eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, is not the sin. It is putting all these things before God which is the sin. It is putting God second that will cause people to be left here when Jesus comes. You can give God money and still not yield yourselves to Him. But you cannot be fully surrendered to Him without surrendering your money. I will never forget the year I was saved. I was a teenager. I walked through my potato patch as I prayed. The potato bugs had just hit my potatoes and stripped the vines. Other farmers were losing their whole crop. I told God that I would dedicate all the potatoes, that I would put a tenth into His work, as a token to show that I had given my all to Him. I never saw another bug. These vines remained there without the leaves, to show that the potato bugs had struck my patch. I made prize potatoes that year. I gave myself before I gave the tenth. God accepted me when He saw my willing heart. A lady said if I would pray that she would sell her house for $7,000, she would give God $2,000 of it. She had been trying to sell it for $5,000 all the time. Did 4

she think she could fool God? She would not be giving God one thing. Someone said if God would give him a million dollars he would give God half of it. Any fool would make a trade with God like that. God says for you to give first, (Luke 6 :38; Mal. 3 :8). It is your move. That shows faith. To require God to give first is to doubt His faithfulness. He requires the first of each dime and the first of each dollar. A member said to his pastor, "If I had ten hogs I would give God five of them." "Suppose you had eight hogs ?" said the preacher. "I would give God four of them", said the member. "Suppose you had six hogs?" "I would give God three of them", the member said. "What if you had four hogs?" said the wise pastor. "Now listen," said the member, "you know I have four hogs." THE ELEVEN TALENT MAN Why did the Lord take the one talent from the man and give it to the man who had ten talents? (Matthew 25 :28). Why was this man who had one talent cast into outer darkness? Was it because he was a murderer or a liar? No, it was because he had not put his talent into circulation. He was a good man, but he did not fully surrender to God. He let one talent hinder him from surrendering to Jesus. It was not because he was a rich man. The man with five talents surrendered his money to God. A talent is money. He was willing to let God use all of his talents in His service, and God gave him twice as much. The man with just a little money refused to surrender it to God's work. He was lost. Most

people look over th is fact: It is not how much money you have, it is whether or not you hold back anything from God. That is what counts (Matt. 25). Here Jesus was telling of the last-day condition, just before He comes. Undoubtedly God will raise up men and women to send the gifts of the Spirit around the world. God must use the jets and the televisions, the radios, the printing presses, and every means, in order to speed this light to the ends of the earth before He comes. One preacher had one book. He did not put the money he had received from this book into God's work. He used it for himself. I had one book. I dedicated all I received from books into God's service, to be put into more books. God gave me another book, and another book, until He has given me about one book each month for ten years. The man who had one book, still has one book. Why were the five virgins lost? Was it because they were wicked sinners? No, it was because they were busy seeking after other things and failed to get their vessels refilled, (Matthew 25 :8). The other things were what they did not surrender. Jesus demands your heart, strength, time and your all. Your money represents your time and strength. You may have lots of money and a good job. You may want to buy your girl a new coat. You may give your girl's old coat to the pastor's daughter. It may be a good coat. It may be appreciated ever so much, but how does the Lord look at it? He looks at your heart. He sees that you put Him second, and put yourself first. I am not saying that you should never do this, but God does not count it the same as if you would put Him 6

first and sacrifice for Him. Think it over. lIe wants you more than He wants your second handed clothing.
GIDEON'S GOD

Out of 32,000 people there were only 300 people who had totally surrendered their all to God. The 31,000 held back something in reserve. (Judges 7:6). When Gideon and the 300 risked their lives and fell on God's mercy, the Lord did not let them down. When you surrender your all to God, He will be there to catch you when you fall. Someone told a missionary that he would be killed over in a strange country. He said, "I died before 1 started." We are dead, our life is hid with Christ in God. When we get to the place that He wants us, the Lord will accept us as we' actually give Him our lives. Then He gives it back to us again. As I was in the African bush, with the head hunters nearby, I slept with my windows open. As I was in a jet plane with one motor out and fire trucks and ambulances waiting' on our plane to explode, I felt at ease. When people drew knives, guns and ice-picks on me and threatened my life, I did not get disturbed. It was because I was crucified with Jesus. I gave my life to IIim. He gave His life to me. I am crucified with Christ, nevertheless I live, yet not T but Christ that liveth in me, (Gal. 2:20). If Jesus lives in me then it is no harder for Him to live this life one place than it is another. We will fear no evil for He is with us, (Psalms 23:4).
A GREAT MAN

I knew a great servant of God. I-Ie has not always 7

been great. He had to die. One time he gave his all. This included his strength, reputation, pride and feelings. He died out to self. He was called many miles to pastor a church. His blue suit was threadbare and the white lining was showing. He bought a nickel bottle of ink and dyed the white lining blue-which was the color of his suit. When he arrived at the church, there was no furniture in the parsonage. He went out in the field and pulled some grass, and put the grass in the corner of the room to sleep on. He was blessed but the people were cursed, because they did God's servant wrong. He gave his all. He gave his life, and received the life of Christ. Now people wonder why he prospers. It is because he has received h is strength from God.
A CHRISTIAN

FARMER

Brother Price tells us about a Scandinavian farmer in Canada. lIe went to town in his T-Moclel to get some zrocer'ies for his wife and children. l le wanted to hurry home before the blizzard struck. Everyone stored up groceries for the winter because they didn't know how long the blizzard would last. On his way home he saw the blizzard coming! He began to pray and seek God! lie asked God to please let him get home to his wife and children, so they wouldn't freeze to death. j 11 that T-Model Ford he prayed until he received the assurance in his soul. Then he began to sing, "My faith looks up to thee, blessed Lamb of Calvary". SOOI1 the road was covered with snow. TIe could not see the ditches on each side. He could see a telephone pole on each side and guess at the road. Snow was all over the windshield.

Then suddenly his car died! He began to pray and said, "God, why did you let my T -Model Ford die? You know now my wife and children will freeze to death; I will starve out here on this road!" Then suddenly a big freight train rushed by within a few feet of his car! Then he knew why his car had stopped. When this man was telling Brother Price this story, he looked up and said, "Brother Price, when the car stopped, I noticed another thing. The key was turned off. I would like to ask you a question. Do you know who turned that key off?" Brother Price looked down at the sincere man and said, "Old man, you know who turned that key off." The man smiled and said, "Yes, I knew bu t I wanted to see if you knew". If we surrender our all and begin to sing, "My faith looks up to thee, blessed Lamb of Calvary," the Lord knows exactly when to turn the key off. He will turn it off at the right time to protect us from all harms and dangers. We are not our own, we are bought with a price. GOOD INTENTIONS A certain man says that he invests his money for God and makes God a profit. He says that he is in business for God. Whatever he gets from that investment, he invests it for God again. When he dies, he has not given God one thing, but good intentions. He does not even pay his tithes. He does not support any home church. Recently Brother C. said he was going to build a church for God and support a preacher. He kept saying that over and over for months to come. Finally one day they found that he had fallen dead with a heart attack.
9

Now his wife says, "My husband intended to do something for God; I want to do something for God, but my children won't let me". Don't worry about doing something for God, let Him do something for you. Let Him take you, break you and make you. Surrender your all to Him. He does not want money as much as He wants you. After He gets you, then He has your money and everything that you have. Then He will let you use your means in His service. TEN-FOLD INCREASE

MEMBERS

OF A HARLOT

A young man was making $50.00 a week. lIe went into a covenant with the Lord and his pastor. He promised to dedicate his life and all he had to the Lord. He started in giving the church $5.00 each week out of his pay. God blessed: his home, his job, his car, his children and everything he possessed. Within a few years he was drawing a salary of $500.00 per week. He began to look at how much the church was receiving, instead of how much he was keeping. One day he was so troubled about this, and so burdened, that he had a conference with the pastor. "How can I afford to give this money to the ch urch T" he said. "I can't afford to give the church $50.00 per week. Is there any way that I can get out of this?" "Yes," answered the pastor. "There is one way. We can pray again and ask God to give you your old job back, which pays only $50.00 per week". The man decided to continue giving God a tenth of his pay check.

On the other hand some folks are like the Pharisees. They pay tithes but they leave the other undone, (Matt. 23 :23). They have forgotten mercy and judgment. They think if they pay a tenth unto the church, they can spend the rest of their money as they please, and yet retain God's blessing. God demands that you give yourself, and then be led by the Spirit how to spend the rest of your money, after you pay a tenth. If you are not loyal to Christ and still loyal to your church you are a member of a harlot, (I Cor. 6:15). You are committing spiritual fornication because you are not putting Christ first. The Pharisees were more faithful to church than they were to Jesus. A Pharisee will die for his denomination, but will hold back from Christ. They are stiff necked and uncircumcized in heart. A harlot is one who puts another ahead of her husband. Then some of them want to receive support from their husband while they are unfaithful to him. Denominations are not evil if you put Christ absolutely first in everything. Some people will surrender their consecration to Christ in order to get promoted in the church, to please the public. You can get so busy working for the church that you forget Christ. Give yourself to Jesus. It is good to do church work, but it is better to obey God rather than man, (Acts 5 :29). We ought to put God ahead of our church, our denomination, and all of our religious activities. We ought to put God ahead of our husband, children and parents. If you advise a Christian woman to stay 11

10

at home with her ungodly husband, who does not want her to go to church, you may be advising her wrong. Many of them become bound so they can't break loose from the bondage you put them under. I believe a man should be the head of the house, but when it comes to religion, God comes first. I would advise a child to be baptized in water and follow God, even if the child's parents told it not to do so. We are to obey our parents in the Lord, (Eph. 6:1). Obey your husband in the Lord. The husband is supposed to rule the house, not with a broomstick, but with the love of God. Many Christians are tested and tried today. God wants them to put Him first. When He sees they are going all out for Him, He will plead their cause. Put God in the beginning, in your school, in your marriage and in your business. In the beginning, God. (Gen. 1:1). GOD~S HOUSE Many people will run to their own house and let the house of the Lord lay waste, (Hag. 1). They go to church in pretty weather. They go to their job in all kinds of weather. Weather will not hinder a revival. I have seen some of the best of revivals in the worst of weather. I have seen some of the worst of revivals in the best of weather. God doesn't ask the weather anything about it, if some Christians want to have a revival, He will send a revival. A group of people can be trained and taught to come to church in all kinds of weather. A preacher can't blame his people. They do what they are trained to do. I went seven miles to a Sunday morning meeting. The pastor was lying in bed at Sunday School time. He said the people wouldn't come out because it was looking

too much like rain. If he does that three or four times they will do likewise. Too many of us do things and blame it on our members. HUNGRY MULTITUDES Millions of people are reaching out for the Lord. They are hungry and reaching out for the Bread of Life. A little boy had gone three days' journey into the wilderness. He would have fainted had he gone home without food. He only had five loaves and two small fishes. He gave all that he had. The men of God asked "What are these among so many?" (John 6:9). You may feel like asking the same question. Sometimes you may feel that you don't have anything to give at all. The boy gave his all to God's man. Jesus blessed him for doing so. Jesus used it to feed the multitudes. Jesus put His blessings on the boy's all and fed the people. God does not delight in natural wisdom. (I Cor. 2 :6-16). He does not delight in your natural powers unless you surrender them to God. Whatever is in your hand, give it to Jesus. Don't say, "Others can do better than I can." He wants you. Then He will have your all. Over a half million Pentecostals are in one nation today because one woman surrendered her all to Jesus. She had only 500 dollars which she was saving for an operation. She had a big tumor. She gave the 500 dollars to God's man, to hold a revival in a new place. When she did, the tumor fell out on the floor and she lived. You can't buy healing with money, but the lady gave God more than money. She gave her will, her soul, her life, her all. That included all of her money. When she surrendered her all to God, then God performed 13

12

an operation on her because she was His property. Should I lend you my car, you would not overhaul it. Should I give it to you, then you would fix it up. Don't lend yourself to Jesus once a week. Present your bodies a living sacrifice. ARGUING WITH THE LORD I always thought if God called me to preach I would not hesitate. When the call came it seemed more than I could do. It seemed like the whole world fell upon me. I felt like Moses. I said "Who am I?" I had no training and no talents. He wanted me to know that it only took God and a surrendered vessel. He led me to Africa and many nations around the world. I wasn't sent by any church or organization. I did not know another language. The people who spoke English overseas could not understand my Arkansas accent. Why did thousands accept Christ and why were thousands healed? It was because God went with me. He did it. In that way, He received the glory. IT TAKES FAITH The word faith has five letters in it. David picked up five stones and went against the giant in the name of the Lord. He was not depending on those stones. He went in the name of the Lord. He saw that he had come to the end of himself. He refused to put on Saul's armor. (I Sam. 17 :30). When God saw that David was surrendering his all, he took over and won the battle. Human flesh has never done the works of God and never will. We must be dead and have our life hid with Christ in God, (Col. 3:3). God had other people who could throw stones harder than

David, but David was after His own heart. David was a surrendered boy. I broke the news to my wife that I was called to preach. She cried awhile and then she said, "I will stay at home and make you a living while you go preach." That helped finish killing me out. When I died, then she went along with me. I lost what savings I had. I wondered why. God said for me to take nothing for my journey, that He would supply every need. Since I went with Him the Lord has given me the best of everything. COUNT ALL LOSS Paul counted all he owned a total loss. He gave up his future, fame, reputation and all. He preached with such simplicity that it seemed foolish to men, (I Cor. 1 :18). He said he would not depend upon the wisdom of this world. Paul could have said, "Send Peter, send John or some of the twelve that have been with the Lord several years. They are qualified. They have been to school with the Master and the Master Teacher has been teaching them. They know how it should be done." Paul was kicked out of his home, excommunicated and counted dead. He gave up riches, wife and all. Most people agree that he at one time had a wife, as a man had to be married to be a member of the Sanhedrin. In this way after Paul was dead, buried and resurrected with Christ, God alone received the glory. When will you surrender to Jesus '?

CHAPTER II A FULL SURRENDER

I was told about a boy that left a boat untied. While he was gone to dinner, someone stole the boat and sold it to a pawn shop. One day the boy found it. He learned that the only way he could get it was to buy it back. He loved the boat so much that he bought it and took it home. He said, "You are mine more than ever. You are twice mine. I bought you twice. T have redeemed you from the pawn shop." The Lord made man, then man sold himself to a thief. Jesus came and gave His all to redeem us. We are twice His. We are a twice bought people. It is only fair that you surrender your all to Him. You have no rights. A dead man doesn't have any rights. You are crucified with Christ, (Gal. 2 :20). You live in Him. God did not give His second best to us. He gave the best gift - His only begotten Son. He so loved me, He so loved you that He gave His all. Let's measure our giving by John 3 :16. What will you give? Will you give your second best? Will you keep your best for yourself and give God your second best? Do you give your used clothing and buy new clothing for yourself? Do you give your discarded furniture for the parsonage and buy new furniture for yourself? Do you give something that you don't really need anyway? We are bought with a price. (1 Cor. 6 :20). We must glorify God with our body and our spirit which are God's. We are not our own. My little boy is mine, so 16

all he has is mine. All we have belongs to God. He gave us the strength in which to earn it. Yield yourself to God, then give your all to Him. Philemon owed himself to Paul, (Phil. 19). Paul had won him to God. He was to give his master what he asked of him. He had already asked him to accept his servant back as a brother. lowe God my all.. Why? I was incurable. Several times I was not supposed to live but He healed me. By His grace I am living. I am living on His time, so I must use that time for Him.

SPIRITUAL

LAW

1\

\1

There is a spiritual law that works, "Give and it shall be given". Get and you lose. Give and you gain. If you save your life, you will lose it, if you lose your life you will find it, (Matt. 10:39). There are two classes of people in each church. One class is all the time giving to every good cause. They scatter their money here and there. They always have to give. The second class holds on to what they have. They don't know where their money goes. Neither class understands the other. There is that that scatters and yet increases. There is that that withholdeth more than meet but cometh to poverty, (Prov. 11 :24). I know a man who gave and gave for years. He had nothing but a chicken farm to make him a living. People could not understand how he drove a nice new car during the depression, how he gave his money to the church, how he would attend services every night and dressed himself and his family nicely. He had the best of food on his table. He knew the secret. One of the spiritual gifts God has put in the church is giving, (Rom. 12 :8).

17

Most people would rather have one of the other gifts. Elijah's anoin.ting was taken from him and given to Elisha. He had no less. Jesus' anointing was given to the twelve and then the seventy, but he had no less. God took the anointing from Moses and put it on the seventy, Moses had more than before. The widow woman gave all the oil. She had plenty left. Another lady gave all her meal. She was never without. A little boy gave five loaves and two fishes. He had more than ever. God gives His love. He has more than ever. When you give for God, the more you give the more you receive. A man is a fool who refuses to give what he cannot keep in order to gain what he cannot lose. Give all you have to God, including yourself. You will receive a hundred fold in this life, (Matt. 19 :29). You will have treasures in heaven. JACOB'S THIGH God touched Jacob's thigh, his strength. The strength to wrestle was in his thigh. After then, he could wrestle no longer-he surrendered, (Gen. 32:24). Jacob became a prince with God. Your "thigh" is that part that rebels against God. It is self will and resistance. Your money represents your strength. You give your time for it. Life is filled up with time. If you give your life to Him, all you have is His. The love of money is the root of all evil- the root of all your resistance. If God gets your money He usually gets you. What is your thigh? Is it your money, your rebellious spirit, or your pride? Surrender it all to Him. 18

Let him touch your "thigh". Then you will prevail and become a prince with God, (Gen. 32 :28). NECESSARY GIVING

,
I

God is not broke. He is not a pauper. You give for your own benefit. Jesus said it is more blessed to give than to receive. If the Lord needed anything for Himself, He wouldn't tell you about it, (Acts 17 :25). You give your best to Him. With the same measure you mete it shall be measured to you again, (Luke 6:38). God's servants are men. God uses you to help them. When Jesus was a man on the earth, people ministered to Him of their substance. (Mark 11 :3). He needed a donkey. He told the disciples to get the donkey. He told them if anyone asked why they were taking the donkey, to tell him that the Lord had need of it, (Luke 8: 3) . He wants you to know that all you possess belongs to Him. He knew the man would receive a better donkey in its stead. If the Bible is right, you will never lose anything by giving, (Luke 6 :38). What would you have done if you had been the owner of that donkey? Suppose two men would come by and take your donkey and say the minister needed it. Suppose they came by and took your car and drove it off, and said the preacher needed that car. The Lord does not tell everyone to do that. But He does test people. In Houston, Texas, in a tent meeting a lady walked by and told me God wanted her to give me her car. She took the keys and gave them to me. I accepted the keys, but after service, I felt led to give 19

her the car back, so I did. God was evidently testing her. TRUE SACRIFICE God told Abraham to offer his only son as a burnt sacrifice. Isaac was Abraham's only son but he wouldn't have had Isaac had it not been for the Lord. Abraham became willing to surrender the most precious thing he had. When he gave Isaac, he gave himself. But praise God, he was the one God wanted anyway. All the blessings were promised to Isaac and his seed. Abraham obeyed God and it was counted to him for righteousness. When he became willing, it was the same as done in God's sight. God holds us responsible for what we have, not for what we have not. He knows if we cannot give. The man told his servant that he would never go to the pigpen to pray. The servant said, "You will have to go to the pig pen if you ever receive the Holy Ghost." The man said, "I'll never go." One day the man became so hungry that he said, "I am ready to go to the pig pen today." The servant said, "You can get it anywhere now." When you surrender everything that you have, God knows it. That is when the blessings come in. When Job lost everything, then he lost himself. When he died, he had just begun to live. He had twice as many camels, donkeys, sheep and oxen than he had ever had before. God can bless you the same way if you will die out to Him. Job got to the place where he said, "The Lord has given and the Lord has taken away, blessed be the name of the Lord, (Job 1 :21). If you give your all to God, then everything that you have is His. You don't give just because someone needs 20

it, but you give because it is necessary that God may have you.

for you to give

DO WHAT YOU CAN

A woman saved a year's wages and gave it all to Jesus. She took the costly ointment and poured it on Jesus. She did it for His burial. Most men want to wait until after a man is gone and then bring their flowers. They say, "That really was a good man." While he is living, they find fault with many things that he does. That was the way it was with Moses and Joshua, Joseph, Peter, Paul and Jesus. After they were dead then people remembered the deeds that they had done. This little lady took her oil and poured it on Jesus. Jesus commended her for doing EO. He knew she gave something far more valuable than the costly ointment. She gave her heart, her soul and her love. Jesus said, "She has done what she could", (Mark 14:8). I want you to get this: Had it not been valued over $1.00, if it had been her all, He would have had the same opinion. He saw she surrendered everything. Have you done what you can? Have you done all that you know to do? Have you been led by the Spirit? Have you held back anything from the Lord? Let Him search your heart right now. Jesus said what this woman did would be told as a memorial to her wheresoever the gospel should be preached unto all the world. That is why I am telling you about it now. It is a message of love. Love is the theme of the Bible. God is love. There are some people like Judas, who said the woman was very wasteful. He was not willing to surrender all. That is why he was a thief. He was not the

21

only one to steal money from God; but he took God's time, God's health, strength and life. He spent it for himself. He held back and refused to surrender. He broke the tenth commandment. Covetousness is idolatry. He did not put God first. That carried him down. If you love God you will keep His commandments. The first one tells you to give Him your all. The tenth one tells us not to covet. You hold back from God if you covet anything. The woman made a sweet-smelling incense all over the house. Judas raised a stink. We have those two classes of people in every church today. The woman is an example for all of us to follow. (Matt. 26:13). SURRENDER ALL

My sister laughed at Aunt Harriet because Aunt Harriet laughed when she received a blessing at church. Why did my sister laugh at her? It was because that was the one thing that rebelled in her against the Spirit of God. When my sister got saved, she laughed just like Aunt Harriet. Why? She had .to become willing to do it or she would not have surrendered everything. What is the one thing that you are' not willing to surrender? Is it your money, pride, fame, reputation, or public opinion? Is it your tradition, your doctrine, or your tongue? Is it your resistance, rebellious nature, or your kinsfolk? Whatever comes between you and God, that is your idol. You shall have none other God before Him. PUT GOD FIRST If you put God first then you will be willing to put 22

His house first. The house of God is not supposed to be built with old worn-out clothing. Some people go into the rag business for their Lord, who owns the heaven and the earth. I believe they call them rummage sales. Did you ever see a group of those pious women on the street begging people to buy their old clothes that they had discarded? They became so prosperous that they bought them some new clothes. Of course, God is not that prosperous, they think. They give to their God their old wornout, discarded clothes. Since they have bought new clothes, they have to empty their clothes closets some way or another. so they put their new clothes in the closet, and give God their worn-out clothes. What does the Lord think of them? What do sinners think about their God, who has become a pauper? Other Christians bow their head in shame as they walk way around in reverence and respect to a God who can't afford anything but what those prosperous saints have discarded. My dear friend, that is not God's plan at all. No wonder you are not blessed. No wonder your church is not in a revival. You have insulted your God. He demands the best or none. You are not giving to God at all. You are not fooling people. You are not fooling God. You are only kidding yourself. Another group of people buy themselves new furniture and take their old furniture, which the merchant would not accept on a trade-in, over to the parsonage, or to the evangelistic quarters. Then they think they are giving to God. They are not giving to God at all. Once upon a time a place of sacrifice was offered to King David. David was a man after God's own heart, so he said "I will not offer sacrifice with something that

23

did not cost me anything." Why did the Holy Spirit record that? It is God's mind for you, EV ANGELIST'S QUARTERS

"With the same measure you mete, it shall be measured to you again." (Luke 6:38). PRAISE GOD

I went by one day and saw a dear pastor building an apartment for his evangelists. He was building it way up in the hot attic, without any windows, without any fan, rugs or ceiling. He was tacking something like pasteboard over the rafters. It was under the hot Texas sun. He was living in a decent house, but it would have been better if he had put the evangelist in jail. "Well", they say, "the evangelist won't stay there but two or three weeks." 'Yes, and about that long in the next place and the next place, and the next place until he takes a cold, or until his nerves are tied up, and he is real close to a nervous collapse. Then they wonder why he left the field. It was because the people's God went bankrupt. For months I lived in Sunday School rooms, ate off the pulpit, and slept on a bed which others discarded. It snowed through a crack. My baby took the measles. I took the flu. My wife went to buy groceries. She had no money. A Jehovah Witness woman gave her groceries. We received one dollar the whole week, having two services a day, working about five hours at each service. The people gave us a grocery shower. Everyone was supposed to bring a pound of something. Everyone except about two brought us a pound of salt. We took a bath in the washtub. We did not even have two rooms and a path. The people fared sumptuously every day. If you put God last, He will put you last. The same verse that says, "Give and it shall be given to you", says
24

We appreciated the salt, the dollar, and the bed to sleep on. We were happy. No one knew it but us, but we were exposed to the weather. I got out of the bed long enough to go pray for some people who were not as sick as I was. Then I went back to bed. I prayed people through by the Holy Ghost by the scores. I prayed people through to Salvation; then I would go back in the Sunday School rooms and lie down on the discarded bed. We were blessed. We were happy, but the people missed a blessing. They could have given to God their best, but they kept it for themselves. We were blessed and the people were cursed. How did God look at such giving? lIe said, "Inasmuch as ye did it unto the least of these, my brethren, you did it unto me", (Matt. 5:45). They kept the best for themselves and gave to God their worst. Idol worshippers in India will not do such a thing. I appreciated the dear brother who gave me a ham one time. The ham was good. Later on we were told that the reason he gave us the ham was because the weather had turned warm; he knew it would spoil anyway. The dogs came along and stole the other hams that he kept for himself. He wondered why. In other words, he would have given nothing had the weather not warmed up. Oh, we are not too good to sleep on used beds and used furniture that has been discarded, wear used clothing, and eat what others discard. What you discard may be better than Brother Brown's best. But God will

25

bless Brother Brown for giving his best, and let you be cursed for giving your worst. AFRICA'S BEST In Africa we had their best. We cou.d hardly eat it. As we were trying to eat it, we remember ed th ' same Scripture that tells us to cast out devils and heal the sick, also tells us to eat whatever is set before us, (Luke 10 :8-9). Those people gave their best and were blessed. If you give to God's servant the same thing that they did, when you could have done better, you will be cursed. If you eat ham, eggs and beefsteak, but give God's servant some kidneys, then you will be cursed. It is because you kept your best for yourself. God looks at the spirit in which you give, whether you put Him first or last. God wants you to know in the same way that He performed a miracle on the widow's meal barrel, you can have a miracle pocketbook. As the barrel was never empty, your purse will never be empty. It will always have a perpetual miracle. The closer the woman got to the bottom of the barrel the closer she was to a miracle. The closer you get to the bottom of the purse, the closer you are to a miracle. Why? Because when you surrender yourself God becomes first in your life. Do you love Him with all of your mind, all of your strength and all of your heart? You are no more faithful to Him than you are to God's man. If you love sister, brother, father or mother more than you do the Lord, you are not worthy of Him. (Matt. 10 :37). Unless we forsake our kinsfolk, our 26

possessions and even our own life, we cannot be His disciples. "So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple." (Luke 14 :33). UNSELFISH EZRA

Ezra, you could have a very comfortable home in Babylon. Why are you so concerned in giving all your time, leaving the comforts of home, the royal comforts, and go among thieves and robbers? Why are you taking the long journey to Jerusalem? EZRA: "I feel a driving force pushing me on. What does a good job, being a scribe, mean to me if I am living a shallow, selfish life?" What do you intend to do, Ezra? EZRA: "I can't be satisfied until the house of the Lord is built in Jerusalem, that has been laid waste. I must take the finance that is dedicated to God. I must take it from Babylon; I must build for God in Jerusalem." So Ezra forsook all and followed the Lord. We have people today who are willing to do the same thing. They are willing to gather the dollar that has been in Babylon long enough. They are willing to take it to the place where there is no church. They are spending their time building for God instead of building for themselves. Ezra took the king's treasure and built for God. Pennies wouldn't do the job. Peanuts won't do it. It will take dedicated dollars. I will take an army of people who will say, "I will forsake all and go." We have many places of worship scattered in many nations. We have just begun. We must have more real 27

soon. We have men like Ezra today who will not be content to build for themselves. They forsake all. They are willing to give their all. They surrender their strength, time, life and whatever they have. What will you surrender? DEDICATE YOURSELVES God will not settle for what you have. He wants you. He wants to fully possess you. Brother and Sister A. stayed in China regardless of the war. Their supplies were cut off, but they trusted the Lord. They ran out of funds and supplies were low. They scraped up all the food that they could. They patched their clothes. Then they patched the patches. They wondered how that their clothes and food lasted after months and months of waiting. Finally their clothes and food were completely gone. One day a plane from America made a crash landing. Brother and Sister A. were sent to be the interpreters for the American pilots. While they were there, they were given some silk parachutes. They began to sew that silk together until they had all the silk clothes they needed. They did not have any food, but they took the American fliers into their homes to care for them. A few days later there were more American planes sent across that country. They were sent to drop large boxes of food down to these American fliers. Brother anel Sister A. had never seen a supermarket, but after they returned to America and looked around they said, "God made our kitchen a supermarket ove; in -the middle of China".

They first gave their all, and God took care of His own property. EARLY CHRISTIANS What kind of example did the people of the churches of Macedonia set in their giving? They were rich in their liberality, though they were deep in poverty. They were willing beyond 'their power. How could they do that? "They first gave their own selves to the Lord and unto us by the will of Cod", (II Cor. 8:1-6). That is the only solution. Cod is asking you to do the same thing, (II Cor. 8:7-8). This is the only giving that amounts to anything with God. First, give yourself. "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you", (James 4 :7). How could they do that? They "first gave their own selves to the Lord and unto us by the will of God," (II Cor. 8: 1-6). That is the only solution. First give your own self, then the rest of it from there on will be simple. That is the only giving that amounts to anything with God. PROVE GOD An angel of God came and told Cornelius that his prayers and his giving hac! come up as a memorial before the throne. He said that God was sending a man to tell him how he and all his house could be saved. (Acts 10 :4-6; 11 :14). Everything you give to Goel is put in His book of remembrance. It will come back to you again (Eccl, 11 :1). Brother D. told me that he gave God a "prove me 29

28

offering". It was a great sacrifice for him. But God gave him a large church full of Holy Ghost-filled people. He has seen teaming thousands turn to God. I met a man in Dayton, Ohio. He was shouting happy. He did not have much, but he gave it in a "prove me offering" to the Lord. It was only ten dollars. But when I saw him he was hunting some place to give another "prove me offering". God had given him a big church full of people, a new Buick car, and all the joy he could take care of. Recently a girl in Dallas was very sad, oppressed, and despondent. She was at a church where people were giving prove me offerings. As she proved God for something the preacher met her and told her what she proved God for, and he told her that God had given her the desires of her heart. She had been praying for a companion who was full of the Holy Ghost. In two months she met such a man. Now they are enjoying a happy home. God has given to them a lovely girl, that they would not take a million for. Above all they have surrendered their home and their all to Jesus. That little girl is dedicated to the Lord. They have surrendered their wills, hearts, and lives to Him. They are in the center of His will. " ... All are yours; and we are Christ's; and Christ is God's." (I Cor. 3 :22-23). If a prove me offering is Scriptural, it will work. The people of God had been praying for a rain for a long time. God told them to bring Him a "prove me offering", that He would send the rain. He is ready to prove Himself, (Mal. 3 :8-10). He will send a Spiritual rain in our daly, if we will break up the fallow ground He will rain righteousness.

I was told that a rich man advertised that he wanted to hire a driver for his family car. Several people applied for the job. He took them all to a place where there was a very steep bank, where there was a two hundred foot drop, straight down. lIe told them to all tryout and show him how well they could drive. The first man drove within about four feet of the steep bank. The second one drove in about three feet of it. The next one drove one foot of it. The next man who took the test drove in ten feet of it. He was the man who was employed. The rich man told them it was not a question of how close they could drive to the bank and not fall off, but he wanted a man to drive the car as far away from danger as he could. The Lord is not looking for someone who sees how close he can get to the world and not backslide, but He is looking for a man or woman that sees how far they can stay away from sin. Then they can avoid abor+ nine-tenths of their temptations. We can't live without temptations, but we bring about nine-tenths of the temptations on ourselves by walking out near them. "But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed" (James 1 :14). We should pray every day, "Lord, lead us not into temptations". We must surrender all our will to Him. When our will is swallowed up in His will our will becomes His will. Dear Heavenly Father, in Jesus' Name help this reader, just now, to surrender his will to you, and walk out into the center of your divine will. Touch his "thigh" as you did Jacob that wrestled against you. As he surrenders his complete will, and becomes a prince with God, may the dear soul make the 31
