Moldova gets financial support from the UN for 2013-2017

The Government of the Republic of Moldova and the United Nations signed a $217 million development and assistance program for the years 20132017. The program aims to support the priorities of Moldova and development challenges in three main realms: first democratic governance, justice, equality and human rights; second human development and social inclusion; and third - environment, climate change and disaster risk management.

The UN delivered slightly over 100 million Dollars under the first agreement, this second agreement foresees a doubling of the support to 20 million Dollars over the next five years 22 resident and non-resident UN agencies have signed the new agreement between sides.

Moldova has the lowest wages in Europe

The minimum wages in Moldova are the lowest in Europe . In Moldova, the minimum wage is $92 (1,100 Moldovan Lei). The minimum wages are twice less than in Romania and Bulgaria, 20 times less than in Belgium or the Netherlands and 25 times less than in Luxemburg. The salary of a nurse varies between $100 and $150 a month while the salary of a teacher goes below $200 per month. A recent graduate who would like to get employed in the governmental

system would be paid $67 as an entrylevel employee. The difficult economic situation determines many Moldovans to go abroad for jobs. The most preferred countries are Russia, Italy, Portugal, Spain and Turkey .

Moldova ranks 4th in the world by amount of remittances

Moldova has ranked 4th in the world by amount of remittances from abroad to the GDP level. According to the research, in 2010 Moldovan gastarbeiters [citizens who are temporary employed abroad] transferred over US$1.3 billion to the homeland, which makes over 23% to GDP. Most money was transferred to Moldova by nationals employed in Russia - about US$440 million. Second and third rankings belong to Italy and Ukraine. About US$80 million came from the U.S., and US$60 - from Romania.

About 800,000 citizens work outside the limits of Moldova, of which about 300,000 in Russia, 170,000 in Ukraine, 90,000 in Italy, 40,000 in Romania, and 25,000 - in the U.S. WB experts forecasted that amount of remittances to Moldova in 2011 will exceed US$1.5 billion. According to World Bank forecasts, next years remittances will grow by 7.3% in 2012, 7.9% in 2013, and 8.4% in 2014.

More expensive gas for Moldova


Moldovan drivers have to pay more money for their gas . According to the new prices, the gas costs with 80 bani ($0.07) more which is a quite high price increase in the past months. One liter of gas costs 17.25 lei ($1.46). The liquid gas went up, as well. Now it costs 8.95 lei ($0.75) comparing to 8.17 lei ($0.69). The prices increase is determined by the movements on the international markets.
