Installation and Licensing

The installation media is available in two forms: Installation file: Download the current installation executable file from the Downloads section of the Customer Portal, and run it. CFdesign Installation CD: This is mailed to new customers, and is available upon request by contacting Technical support.

An introduction to Licensing CFdesign uses a license management system called LMX. This system provides two fundamental ways to license CFdesign:

Nodelock
The license is placed in the CFdesign installation folder. Only the licensed computer can run CFdesign.

Network
The license is kept on one computer (the license server). Computers on the network access the license, and can run CFdesign. When a computer is finished with CFdesign, it releases the license, and another computer can then use it.

There are several methods of requesting the CFdesign license, and the chosen method affects the installation procedure. The recommended method depends on your installation environment and situation. The installation procedures for these methods are presented:

Note: Licenses for CFdesign 2010 will not work for CFdesign 2011. A CFdesign 2011 license is required to use CFdesign 2011.

Method 1: Request the license before Installing

This method is ideal for network administrators
1. Before running the installation file (or CD), log onto the Customer Portal, and click My Portal Account. Select My Licenses to open the Licensing page. If you do not know the host ID a. b. c. d. e. Log onto the Customer Portal, and click My Portal Account. Select My Licenses. On the Licensing page, click the Help icon next to the Host ID field, and follow the instructions to download the file. Extract the two files to a folder on your computer, and run getlicinfo.bat. This utility writes a file called licinfo.txt that contains the host IDs found on your system. If there are multiple IDs, select the one associated with your network adapter that is most likely to be active all the time.

Note: A separate installer is available on the installation CD and from the Customer Portal that contains just the license manager. 2. 3. 4. 5. The license file will be e-mailed to you. Run the installer as an administrator. Follow the steps to accept the license agreement, set the destination folder, and modify the list of selected CAD launchers. On the Configuration Wizard, select Browse for a license file. If the license is a nodelocked license, it is automatically copied into the CFdesign folder. If the license is a network license, the license manager is automatically configured. After all settings are installed, click Finish.

6.

To uninstall CFdesign, use Add/Remove Programs. To perform licensing tasks outside of the installer, use the CFdesign Licensing Wizard.

Note: Licenses for CFdesign 2010 will not work for CFdesign 2011. A CFdesign 2011 license is required to use CFdesign 2011.

Method 2: Request the license after installing

On the Configuration Wizard, select .I will install the license later (with the CFdesign License Wizard). After all settings are installed, click Finish. To request and install the license, follow these steps: a. b. Obtain the host ID of the machine by running getlicinfo.bat from the CFdesign installation directory. This utility writes a file called licinfo.txt that contains the host IDs found on your system. If there are multiple IDs, select the one associated with your network adapter that is most likely to be active all the time. Log onto the Customer Portal, and click My Portal Account. Select My Licenses to open the Licensing page. Request a license using this host ID. Run the CFdesignLicenseWizard from the CFdesign installation folder, and select the option to Update/Change existing License. Click Next, and select the option to Browse for a license file.

On the Configuration Wizard, choose Select a license server. If a single server on the same subnet is found, the server name is automatically filled in. If multiple servers on same subnet are found, select the preferred server from the list. To use a server on a different subnet, specify the server name. After all settings are installed, click Finish.

4.

To install the license server without the CFdesign Installer

A separate installer is available on the installation CD (and from the Customer Portal) that contains just the license manager. Use this to install the license manager on a computer in which a complete CFdesign installation is not necessary. Use the options on the Configuration Wizard to request a license or to select it after it has been emailed. CFdConfig configures the license manager for either option. To install the license server on a Unix or Linux machine The LMX license server is supported on HPUX, Sun-Sparc, and Linux operating systems. 1. 2. Send a request to CFdesign licensing to obtain the Unix licensing file set. Create a directory called "LMX" and copy the following files into it: lmxendutil lmx-serv-brni cfdesignlicenseserver.cfg Before requesting the license, run lmxendutil to get the Ethernet HostID. Request a license using this value. To confirm the server works, run lmx-serv-brni to start the license server. Check that the start-up output does not contain any errors. To run the server as a background process, run lmx-serv-brni -b To stop the server, press ctrl-c.

3. 4. 5. 6.

If the client and server machines are on different subnets, run the CFdesign License Wizard on the client machine to select the license server.
