About This Chapter

BSS Signaling Tracing

BSS signaling tracing refers to the signaling tracing on the Um interface, Abis interface, A interface, Pb interface, and BSC-CBC interface, and single user signaling tracing. 2.1 Signaling Tracing on the Um Interface The signaling tracing on the Um interface refers to the tracing of signaling on the Um interface in cells on the maintenance terminal. In practice, you can use test MSs and related software to perform this function. The maintenance terminal is rarely used. 2.2 Signaling Tracing on the Abis Interface The traced signaling messages on the Abis interface are the RSL messages, OML messages, and LAPD messages. 2.3 Signaling Tracing on the A Interface The traced signaling messages on the A interface are the BSSAP messages, SCCP messages, MTP3 messages, and MTP4 messages. 2.4 Signaling Tracing on the Pb Interface The traced messages on the Pb interface are the application messages and the LAPD messages. 2.5 Signaling Tracing on the BSC-CBC Interface During signaling tracing on the BSC-CBC interface, the signaling messages on the interface between the BSC and the CBC are traced. 2.6 Signaling Tracing of a BSC User Signaling tracing of a BSC user supports tracing by the IMSI, TMSI, IMEI, MSISDN, and channel identifier.

NOTE

2 BSS Signaling Tracing

The tracing mode can be "Report" or "Save on GBAM". "Report" means to send the traced messages directly to the LMT. You can specify the saving path of the traced messages in the Saving File area. The file contains all the signaling messages on the Um interface traced during a specified period of time. "Save on GBAM" means to save the traced messages directly on the GBAM. Then the LMT no longer receives the messages. You can specify the tracing period in the Tracing Time area.

l l

You can specify the color of the displayed tracing results in the Color area. This operation takes effect only after you select Report in the Tracing Mode area. The maximum value 16 means that at most 16 cells can be selected.

3.

Select the parameters in the Filtering Parameters and the Site.

l

In the Tracing Mode area, select Report. Then click OK. The signaling tracing in Report mode starts, as shown in Figure 2-2. If you select Save on GBAM in the Tracing Mode area, the signaling tracing in Save on GBAM mode starts.

During signaling tracing on the BSC-CBC interface, the signaling messages on the interface between the BSC and the CBC are traced.

Procedure
1. 2. On the BSC Maintenance System, select Trace & Monitor. The signaling tracing navigation tree is displayed. Choose Trace > Trace the Message at BSC-CBC Interface. The Trace the Message at BSC-CBC Interface dialog box is displayed, as shown in Figure 2-31.

NOTE

The tracing mode can be "Report" or "Save on GBAM". "Report" means to send the traced messages directly to the LMT. You can specify the saving path of the traced messages in the Saving File area. The file contains all the signaling messages on the BSC-CBC interface traced during a specified period of time. "Save on GBAM" means to save the traced messages directly on the GBAM. Then the LMT no longer receives the messages. You can specify the tracing period in the Tracing Time area.

You can specify the color of the displayed tracing results in the Color area. This operation takes effect only after you select Report in the Tracing Mode area.

3.

In the Tracing Mode area, select Report. Then click OK. The BSC-CBC message tracing in Report mode starts. The tracing results are displayed, as shown in Figure 2-32.

2.6 Signaling Tracing of a BSC User

Signaling tracing of a BSC user supports tracing by the IMSI, TMSI, IMEI, MSISDN, and channel identifier.

Functions
The functions of the signaling tracing of a BSC user are as follows:
l l

Supporting tracing by the IMSI, TMSI, IMEI, MSISDN, and channel identifier Supporting filtering by interface. The interfaces are the A interface, Abis interface, and the Um interface.

Procedure
1. 2. On the BSC Maintenance System, select Trace & Monitor. The signaling tracing navigation tree is displayed. Choose Trace > Trace User Message. The Trace User Message dialog box is displayed, as shown in Figure 2-34.
