Case Study

Carrefour-SA Shopping Center, Istanbul, Turkey

The Carrefour company is Europe's leading retailer and the second largest in the world today. The company is present in 29 countries and has 400,000 employees. Carrefour started operations in Turkey in 1993 and today the chain includes 13 hypermarkets and 86 supermarkets nation-wide. In January 2005, the Maltepe hypermarket, situated on the Asian bank of the Bosporus opened for business. A new SCADA-based control system was installed in this hypermarket to provide reliable monitoring and control of the entire shopping center facilities. The Turkish company MAS Otomasyon was responsible for designing, programming and installing the control and the SCADA System. Communication between PLCs and the control room is provided by the Afcon P-CIM SCADA/HMI software. The system consists of two different building automation systems installed in the Hypermarket and the Business Center. Both systems are controlled and monitored by P-CIM 7.02.

P-CIM monitors and controls the following systems:

Status of all Low Voltage distribution equipment and hardware Status of air conditioning units and exhaust fans Lighting systems Status of generators Air-conditioning units UPS battery levels and failures Transformers and medium voltage units and their protection relays Hot water and waste water pumps Temperature levels of Roof-Tops Controlling the Roof-Tops Status of boilers, electrical heaters, compressors and fans

Using P-CIM SCADA as the building management HMI system packs many advantages in controlling the automation system
Lighting is adjusted to various levels providing cost and energy saving solution. Manual and automatic control over lighting systems. Monitor voltage/current levels and Active/Reactive systems power consumptions. Historical records are stored in database for reporting and trending. Automatic/manual control over pumps and fans from the P-CIM SCADA/HMI. Integration with open systems reliably and flexibly.
