President Bill Clinton to Endorse Congressman Silvestre Reyes on April 24

President Clinton had endorsed Congressman Reyes late last year in a video message. "I am honored to receive President Clinton's endorsement and even more honored to have him visit with thousands of El Pasoans--as he shares vivid memories about his time in office, the work the two of us have done for close to 20 years and his endorsement of my reelection bid as the federal representative of the 16th District of Texas," Congressman Reyes said. "I am honored to visit west Texas and El Paso once again and endorse my good friend and staunch Democrat, Congressman Silvestre Reyes, a dear colleague who I respect and admire," President Clinton said. "Silver has been one of the most effective legislators in Congress and his work on the House Armed Services, Intelligence and Veterans Affairs Committees have kept El Paso on track and our nation safe. His work at the federal level has brought billions of dollars in funding for the region. Silver works and El Pasoans need to send him back to Congress to represent the interests of all. I am pleased to visit Silver in El Paso to show all my support for him." Congressman Reyes is the second most senior Democratic member of the House Armed Services Committee, serves on the House Veterans Committee, is a past Chairman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and a former chairman of the House Committee on Intelligence. He is the ranking member of the House Armed Services Tactical Air and Land Forces Subcommittee; he also serves on the House Armed Services Readiness Subcommittee and the House Veterans Affairs Health Subcommittee. First elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1996, Congressman Reyes retired from the U.S. Border Patrol after 26 years as an agent, inspector and sector chief, where he was the first Hispanic to serve as a border sector chief for the U.S. Border Patrol. He is a combat veteran serving as a helicopter crew chief in Vietnam. His election marked the first time El Paso elected a Hispanic to represent them in the U.S. House of Representatives.
