Free ASHRAE Webcast on Dedicated Outdoor Air Systems

2:00 5:00 pm ADT, Thursday, April 19, 2012 The NB/PEI Chapter of ASHRAE will be hosting group viewing opportunities of this

free webcast at NBCC campuses in Fredericton, Moncton and Saint John. Definition of DOAS
A dedicated outdoor air system (DOAS) is a type of HVAC system that consists of two parallel systems: a dedicated outdoor air ventilation system that handles latent loads and a parallel system to handle sensible loads. Conventional HVAC systems, such as variable air volume (VAV) systems serving multiple zones, have some potential problems in terms of poor thermal comfort and possible microbial contamination. Depending on the environment and the parallel system involved, the outdoor air system will handle some of the sensible load in addition to the latent load and the parallel system will handle the rest of the sensible load. The main point of a DOAS system is to provide dedicated ventilation rather than ventilation as part of conditioned air. DOAS is a term given to a system that has been used extensively in Europe and in various forms in the US. (ref: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dedicated_outdoor_air_system)
