A chair at down stage left in front of the curtain. *House light out *House music in
Grandpa & 2 kids come in from stage left.

(Wave at the kids) Come here kids, want to hear a story?

Yes! Certainly!

(pointing at the floor) Come and sit down here and Ill tell you a fascinating story,
a story of mine. It all starts at the time when I was a little boy

Scene 1.2 Orphanage

Headmistress and a couple enter the stage from stage left. Some children are already on up stage left playing. Light changes indicate the location of the scene.
Headmistress: (Gently and thankfully) Its so kind of you to adopt these children, they are all orphans and some of them have been abandoned right ager they were born.

John frowns after hearing.

Woman: Man:

(Sadly) What a disgusting thing to do! Abandoning a child! (Turns to look at her husband) We really love children. (Sincerely) Will it be ok if we wanted to adopt a little girl? Do you have any

suggestions? Headmistress: Well, Matilda will be a very good choice. She is very obedient, hardworking and clever! (Put her hand together) I would personally want a daughter like her! Woman: (Looking at her husband) Matilda seems to be a good choice! (Husband nods) Can we visit Matilda first? Headmistress: Certainly! (Stands up and points toward the door) This way please.

Headmistress walks towards the door while John hides behind the door. The Couple stands up and walk out, followed by the headmistress. John cries after they have gone. Ken enters with the other orphans from stage right.

Ken:

(talks to the gang, pointing at John) Hey look! Isnt that John? Oh see, hes crying! Hello John, what are you crying for, again?

The gang laughs.

John: Ken: Gang: Ken: Gang 1: Gang 2:

(Sobbing, unclearly) I am an orphan I am an orphan

Heard it boys? Jonny finally believes that hes an orphan! (talks to the gang) Who cares if weve got parents or not, right boys? Of course! (Nods) Only losers need parents! Thats right! Yeah! Loser!

The gang get into the room and play basketball. John calms himself down and talks to the gang.
John: Ken:

(Fearfully) Er... Can I Er Can I join you?

Get lost! Loser! We dont want to play with you! Boys, lets go to another place!

*Music fades in The gang walks out of the room and out of the stage from the left, pushing John aside at down stage right. *curtain closes

Grandpa: Well, that was my childhood Id just told you. But in a faraway place and at a faraway time, there was someone that got a similar story like mine, and his name was Moses.

Kids seem confused.

Well, you dont know who Moses is, dont you? Well he was the prince of Egypt! The son of Pharaoh! But one day, he found that he was just a Hebrew man, who was abandoned by his family and adopted by the queen of Egypt. After he found out that hes a Hebrew, he was so depressed and went away on his own one evening

Scene 2

*spotlight fades in
Moses enters from R and stands on R in front of the curtain Moses:

(Murmuring to himself) That cant be true. Yes. That cant be true. I am the son
of Hebrew? It is just a joke, right? I am Moses! I am Moses the Prince! I am the son of Pharaoh! I am the prince of Egypt! I am the prince. I shouldnt trust the Hebrew. They are just slaves. How foolish I am.

*Spotlight fades out *Curtain opens *Stage light fades in *Music fades in Egyptian guards whip the ground and push the slaves while the slaves are working hard.

Moses comes out from the right, watching the scene.

(My good and tender son) Al ti-ra veh al tif-chad (Don't be frightened and don't be scared) My son, I have nothing I can give (Yocheved holds Moses hand) But this chance that you may live I pray we'll meet again (Yocheved put down Moses hand) If He will deliver us

Slaves

Deliver us Hear our prayer Deliver us From despair These years of slavery grow too cruel to stand Deliver us There's a land you promised us Deliver us Out of bondage and Deliver us to the Promised Land...

An old slave falls down at the front of the stage; other slaves stop working and stand around him to see if he is okay.

*music fades out

Guard: Yocheved Slave 1: Miriam: Guard: Back to work! Are you okay? He fell unconscious. (Worrying) What can we do? (walks towards the crowd) What are you doing? Stand up now! I say now! Old slave didnt move. (Whips the old slave mercilessly) Now! Wake up! You are such complete rubbish. There is no use of you anymore!

Egyptian guards pushes the old slave on the ground and stepped a foot on him. He raises his arm and wants to whip the old slave. Moses rushes to the Egyptian guards and attacks him. Moses hits the guard until hes unconscious. Slaves stopped to look at Moses. Moses looks at his own hand.
Moses: (Bitterly) I I killed a man. I killed an Egyptian. I I did kill an Egyptian for the Hebrews! I just couldnt control myself! SoSo everything I thought. Everything I am is a lie? Am I really a Hebrew?

Moses seems confused and sad. He walks down stage and starts singing. *Light fades out *Spotlight fades in *Curtain closes

Moses leaves on stage right. *Spotlight fades out * fades in Pharaoh enters from S.L. searching for Moses. A servant comes out from S.R.
Pharaoh: Servant: Pharaoh: Where is Moses? Your majesty, I saw Moses ran away (Points at the right) just then but I couldnt catch up on him. (Painfully) Oh Moses! Moses! Moses! Everything is okay! Where are you? Dont go away!

Pharaoh runs off stage, chasing Moses. * fades out

ACT II Scene 3

3 narrators on stage. *Spotlight fades in

Narrator 3: Narrator 2: Narrator 1: Narrator 3: Narrator 1: Hey look! John has been working very hard for the past fifteen years! But I just saw him selling fish balls in a food stall in Mongkok! Youre right! But because of the special ingredients, many people say that the fish balls are very yummy and Johns store becomes popular! Oh! So thats why John gets his nickname Fish ball King! Thats right! John earns a lot of money and then opens a small restaurant called KFB Restaurant and afterwards, John has opened more than 18 branches all over Hong Kong! Years after years, he invests a large amount of his money in the stock market and property. He earns a lot so he is very rich now! But I think his character has changed a lot since he got his first bucket of gold! He becomes selfish and boastful. Being boastful? Wow! I thought he was very low in self-esteem before! Money is very important in our lives. But can success really make you very happy? Can it make you grow? Can it make you realize what a meaningful life is?

Narrator 2: Narrator 3:

The Narrators freezes. Light fades out and they leave at S.R. John and friend 1 walk on stage from S.L. and meets Friend3 who enters from S.R. *spotlight fade out There is a luxurious room on S.R. and a not-that-pretty one on S.L. *curtain opens *light fades in *pub music fades in Friend 2 enters. He is surprised when he notices John and so he rushes towards him and has a little chat.
Friend 2: John: Friend 2: Hey, John! Im so happy to see you here. Come join me! (hesitate) I would like to join but Ive so many important meetings to hold and piles of documents to read and sign. Im afraid I cant join you guys tonight. (Excited) You cant join us, can you? Oh! What a pity! It is Ladies Night tonight. All the ladies are free to enter into any pubs. Theyre all dressed in tank tops and mini-skirts, dancing on the stage. (Patting Johns shoulder) Are you sure you dont want to go? There are hundreds of beautiful, sexy girls Ill be waiting for you! (Starts to walk to the back of the stage) (Thinking) Wow! It sounds interesting (Helplessly) but I still have so many things to do in the office. Maybe join you next time. (Laughing) Are you kidding? Youre the chairman of KFB! The most famous fast food restaurant with hundreds of branches in Hong Kong now! (Exaggerating) You must have so many managers to help you deal with the business! Dont worry! Hey, John, youve been working so hard these years and now youve become a successful man. You need to have your own leisure time to relax! Thats right John! You work so hard every day and its time for you to take a break! Dont worry, lets go to the pub together! Just call it a little break for ourselves. Alright? Um, maybe you two are right! Well than! What are we waiting for? Lets get inside! Hey, what would you like to drink, John? Err Heineken, please!

Ken walks into the pub with shabby cloths. He is surprised when he sees John.
Ken: John: Ken: John: Err Hi! Excuse me, are you John? (John looks at Ken curiously) Im Ken. Do you remember me? (sounds sarcastic) Oh, of course! Youre Ken in the orphanage! I remember you! How will I forget you? (Embarrassed, laughs awkwardly) Err Hehe What is your job now? (Proudly) I run my own business and Im the chairman of KFB.

Ken realizes his friend has become one of the wealthiest people so he starts flattering.
Ken: KFB is such a big, famous chain fast food restaurant in HK! In the past, I always bullied you. I beg your forgiveness. (Running towards John and kneeling down in front of Johns knees) I know I was wrong at that time but can we be friends now? (Starts being boastful) Well you bullied me in the past you know (Looking at Kens torn clothes) And now you want to be friends with me? Come on John You know Im sorry about that! Hehe, you need money dont you? Well, no err yes actually Please help me John! I thought you said I was a loser? Now whos the loser? Hahaha! Im sorry John! I really am! Please give me some money! I lost my job last month! Well, if you really want my money, beg for my forgiveness and say that youre the loser! (Immediately) I beg you to forgive me! I am the loser! Help me John! (Trying to give John some drugs) Hey John! (want to try but hesitate for a while) Whats that? Drugs? (pushing John to try) Its not drugs! It brings you happiness and freedom! It is a

(The two girls grin) It helps you to forget the pressure! John takes the drug and goes to S.L. with the girls.

What? Where are you? Its very noisy. I cant hear! (irritated) Im in the street! (doubtful) In a street? How come I can hear some music? (Leaning her face near Johns ear) Whos calling, my darling. Lets dance again! (trying to question John) John? Are you in the pub again? (Not knowing what to say) Of course not! (angry) John! How come a lady is calling you darling? What happen? Tell me now!

John tries to leave the girls and walks to the entrance of pub. Stella and Mary go and grab John, wanting to get him back into the Pub.
Stella: Mary: Wife: Stella: Wife: Stella: Mary: Wife: Come on John! Lets get back inside! My baby, whos on the phone? You lie to me! He is here to see us, not you! Who are you? We are his new girlfriends! (teasingly) Who are you? (loudly) IAMHISWIFE!

Stella and Mary laugh loudly.

Stella: Mary: Stella: Wife: (teasing) OhPlease! Take a look at yourself! (teasing) Just see how fat and old you are! Youre old and fat and look! Were young! (frustrated) You always come home late with perfume and lipsticks on your shirt! You always hang out and flirt with girls because you think you are rich now! Youre proud of being a womanizer! You just never think of me! I have feelings too! You cant do this to me! (bursts into tears) Listen, Im fed up now! Lets divorce! (annoyed) You always nag me too! I just wanna go out and relax! Wife is standing down stage in front of the curtain with Moses, one on the left and one on the other. *Curtain closes

(praying) God, if you could tell me what to do? My mighty God, if you could help
me save the slaves of Hebrew from suffering? God, please tell me what to do. I have faith in you. I believe that you can help me. Amen.

Wife leaves the stage but Moses remains.

(Stupidly) Well, why dont he use a map? Dont they have maps of the desert? Dont be stupid! Its no use having a map in the desert! And also Moses means he has lost the direction of life, you idiot! Oh Lost his direction of life Is there a solution to that? Well certainly! God! God is the solution! (Stupidly) Oh yes! God can give him a map! (Claps his hands over his forehead) Its a waste of time explaining to you God can do anything! God is amazing! See it for yourself!

Moses:

(kneels down on the floor, bitterly) I lose everything. Everything I hadits all gone. I got nothingnothing. (Hits the floor) Why am I so useless? Im such a stupid fool! (Crying) I am a mistake. I am an outcast. I shouldnt be here. And I dont want to live anymore! (Sit down on the rocking chair desperately)

*Curtain opens *Flame effect on bush

Moses: God (V.O.): Moses:

(scared) What is this strange thing, why isnt tree burned up? (whispers) Moses Moses
Who are you?

Moses searches around, looking for the strange voice.

God: Do not come near take off your shoes from your feet, for the place where you are is holy. I am the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.

Moses does what he is told.

You are the god? (slowly) Truly, I have seen the grief of my people in Egypt, and their cry because of their cruel masters has come to my ears; for I have knowledge of their sorrows. And I have come down to take them out of the hands of the Egyptians, guiding them out of that land into a good land and wide, into a land flowing with milk and honey. Moses, come, then, and I will send you to Pharaoh, so that you may take my people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt. (panic) Why am I to go to Pharaoh and take the children of Israel out of Egypt? You see, I am not the real Prince. (calmly) I will be with you; and this will be the sign to you that I have sent you when you have taken the children of Israel out of Egypt, you will give worship to God on this mountain. (scared) If the children of Israel ask me what the name of the Lord is, what am I to say to them? I AM WHAT I AM. The Lord, the God of the Hebrews, has come to you. The king of Egypt will not let you go without being forced. But I will put out my hand and overcome Egypt with all the wonders which I will do among them and after that he will let you go. Moses, you will go out with your hands full. My hands

A rod is in the fire. Moses gets it.

Moses: IsIs that my illusions? Is it that God who has been speaking to me?

He leaves at S.L. when the narrators come in on S.R. *Light fades out *Spotlight fades in *Curtain closes

Scene 5

*Radio sound effect fades in *Stage left light fades in *Curtain Opens John is wandering on down stage left, listening to radio with his phone. A light pole is beside him.

Radio: John:

Hang Seng Index just got a sharp drop, thousands of people are affected. This record drop may result in. (cries) Oh no! I invested all my profits on these stocks how am I going to run my business without my money? I bankrupt! What should I say to the company tomorrow?

John is stroked by sudden pain. He falls, covering his stomach. He then gets fainted. *Stage left light fades out *Sound of siren fades in *Stage right light fades in *Sound of siren fades out In hospital, a doctor is standing beside John, who is now lying on a bed. Few patients are there up stage.
Doctor: John: Doctor: John: Doctor: John: Doctor: John: Doctor: John: Doctor: Are you OK? Why am I lying here? Im Dr Chan. You were in a coma and so you were sent to this hospital. (feels sudden pain) Ouch! My stomach! (seriously) John. I have to tell you something. (scared) Whats that? (clear his throat) The report shows a tumour in your liver. It is cancer. (shocked) Liver cancer? No! You must be joking! It cant be! John, listen, John. I have to tell you that it is the third stage of liver cancer. That means you only have three months to live (shouting) three months? This is nonsense! It mustnt be me! You mean the other John right? Its not meIt cant beIt cant be(whispering) (seriously) Sorry, John. It is you. We have called your family and they are on their way. I know its hard to accept but I advise you to make good use of days and do the things you want to do and see the people you want to see. (Begging) Doctor! Do something! I know you can cure it. (Shaking doctors hand) You can help me! You must help me! Save me, save me please! (feeling bad) Weve tried our best and sorry (desperate and crying) Why me? Please help me!

John: Doctor: John:

Wife runs towards John with a bible in her hand.

Wife: John: Wife: John: John, are you alright? (ashamed and shocked) mydearest wife. Why do you still come to see me? You hate me, dont you? (giving John strength) I receive a call from the hospital saying that you have liver cancer. Thats why I come here. (Unbelievably)

Wife: John: Wife:

(Supporting) Dont give up, fight for your life. Erm Have you ever heard of a man called Moses? No. (Opens the bible and reads it to John) He is the man who gains strength from God. He is the prince of Egypt! Like you, he is a rich and powerful man. One daysomeone told him that he was just a Hebrew man. He was so disappointed and depressed he turned to the wilderness and got lost but then he met God and believed in God.
