THE HIGH TEMPERATURE ADVANTAGE

Newtex Industries manufactures Zetex, a heat resistant fabric that provides protection up to 1100F (593C) and ZetexPlus, a proprietary heat resistant fabric that can withstand temperatures up to 2000F (1093C).
Zetex and ZetexPlus are proven, time-tested textiles: Zetex products are used for applications up to 1100F (593C) and ZetexPlus products are used for applications to 2000F (1093C). Materials have an average K-value of 0.3399 BTU/inch/hr/sq ft/F. Zetex and ZetexPlus are not only high temperature resistant, but can also withstand cold temperatures to -100F (-73C). High dielectric strength and low constant of 5.9 to 6.4. Zetex and ZetexPlus fabrics are chemical resistant ~ resisting most acids, alkalies and solvents. The fabrics are also mildew resistant. Most fabrics are made from durable texturized amorphous silica yarns that are twice as strong as steel wire of same diameter. Expanded line of coated fabrics have low smoke emissions and are designed for fabrication. Aluminized Zetex fabric reflects 90% of radiant heat. Wide selection of safety products and fabrics. Fabrics are UL listed and exceed European EN407 industrial standards. Made in USA.

THE ULTIMATE TEST

Fierce, yellow-orange flames of blazing jet fuel lashed the morning skies as a Rochester, NY firefighter prepared for a breathtaking demonstration. He was about to walk directly through the heart of a 2500F inferno. His only protection was a 2000 Series Fire Entry Suit made with ZetexPlus fabric.
1. Temperature monitor strips (Omega label at 110F (43C), 120F (49C), and 140F (60C) ranges) were applied to critical areas of firefighters clothing. 2. Similar monitor strips were applied to the fire suit. 3. The walk took place in a lane between two 71/2 feet high (2.3 meters) by 12 feet long (3.6 meters) stacks of hardwood pallets soaked with 30 gallons (120 liters) of aviation jet fuel and ignited using 5 gallons (20 liters) of gasoline. 4. Entering the flame lane at the height of the blaze, the firefighter walked the length of the fire and back four times ~ a total of 96 feet (29 meters). He was engulfed in flames where the heat reached 2350F to 2500F (1288C to 1371C). 5. Immersed in the inferno, the firefighters temperature monitors on his clothing reached only 110F (43C) except on his left arm and chin where the temperatures were 120F (49C). The time of the fire walk was one minute; the firefighter was inside the fire suit for 3 to 4 minutes. 6. The exterior of the suit was only blackened by the smoke and flames. 7. The interior of the fire suit was unaffected by the fire.

SAFETY FIRST

Know What Type of Protection is Needed

Ambient Heat is the heat (or temperature) of the surrounding air. Example: the air temperature in a factory setting is 100F (38C) Conductive Heat is heat transferred as a result of direct contact with a heat source. Example: in the same factory setting, the temperature of a hot water pipe is 160F (71C) Radiant Heat is heat absorbed by objects struck by heat energy rays. Example: the radiant heat from the hot water pipe is 160F (71C) next to the pipe; the radiant heat from the hot water pipe decreases as one walks away from the hot water pipe 8
