Interaction with Students Provide Learning Objectives -the days learning objectives are written on the board -teacher verbally shares objectives with class Present Information 1. Provide overview of lesson information 2. Distribute readings and graphic organizers Organize Students into Learning Teams - Students will be organized in groups of four. Each student will be numbered 1-4 - The reading will be divided up into four sections. Students will be responsible for one section each - Send the students into expert groups (all the 1s together, all the 2s, etc). Expert groups will meet for 15-20 minutes. Have them read and discuss their piece of the article. They will be responsible for creating: 1. A list of German vocabulary. Dictionaries will be provided so they may look up the correct article to pass on to their home group 2. Meal and snack concepts. Share details about the customs they read about - After reading and preparation of the new information, send students back to their home groups. Home groups will meet for 10-15 minutes. Each member will then teach the others what they learned from their section. - Record vocabulary on new sheet and take meal/snack/customs notes on provided graphic organizer Assist Team Work and Study -Visit each expert group as they are working. Be available to clarify any points on vocabulary or other questions. Provide Recognition -Visit each team as they are teaching one another in their home groups. You should be aware of how the expert teams were doing, and recognize members efforts as they demonstrate their new learning. Assessment/Closure

-Hearing the responses from each group will provide a formative assessment opportunity. You can see where students in your class are at (both strengths and areas for improvement). - When groups are done teaching, have a whole class recap on the activity. What did we find out? What questions do you still have? What did you think of the activity? Differentiation -I will differentiate process. For ELL/SpEd, students will have the same responsibility as the other group members. I will let expert group member know that if they have a student in need of some extra assistance that it would advisable that they help everyone out. For TAG, students may create example sentences with the new vocabulary to share with their home groups.
