kmillar05@qub.ac.uk Profile As a young graduate crying to enter the field of work I am highly ambitious with a strong desire to achieve. My degree has taught me the importance of time management, organisation and research skills as well as a love for politics and history. I have demonstrated in my part time employment and in the two voluntary positions I have held that I am a conscientious, competent and adaptable person who can make decisions quickly and responsibly. Having been brought up in a single parent household in a council estate I feel I have achieved a lot already but I still have a desire to improve and better myself at every turn. My upbringing taught me the importance of hard work and perseverance which is something I would bring to any position I am employed in. Its focus on political history has played a great part in teaching me how to read Government papers for the appropriate information, as well as relaying it back in writing in a simple, yet effective manner. Having held roles in customer service I have proven to be highly personable and can listen to customer issues whilst replying to them in an assured and measured tone. This sort of work has also shown me the outcomes that can be achieved when everyone contributes to a team effort and at times has shown how to deal with extra work when a small number are not. Interests Apart from a deep interest in political history and modern day politics I also read widely on areas as diverse as literature, science, economics, philosophy and international affairs. In other areas of my life I enjoy running, swimming, tennis, motor racing and golf. I also have a passion for architecture and film. Achievements At the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum I co-led a project with another intern. We designed and built a mobile cart that housed replica toys like those Lincolns youngest children would have played with when their father was President. To the best of my knowledge the cart is still in operation. I also led a group at University in creating a theoretical business plan for a historical area. We chose to focus ours on a dock museum in Belfast to complement to Titanic Visitor Centre on the site. We had to compile a design plan for the building and an accounts summary for the business. We received a mark of 75 for the project and were awarded a Certificate of Enterprise at graduation. I also have Duke of Edinburgh bronze and silver award.
