Getting Started

Getting Started
The HP Statistics Module is a method of capturing data directly from a network printer. This additional
tool can assist the user in locating, configuring, and testing printers on a network.

System Requirements
Before installing the HP Statistics Module, the following must be present on the system:

.Net Framework 3.5

CTRM 1.0 or newer, or HPAC BRM 1.0 or newer
MegaTrack 3.2 or newer, or HPAC 3.2 or newer
NOTE: If MegaTrack 3.7 or HPAC 3.7 is installed on the system, HP Statistics Module will install
as a new tab within the client application. If an older version of MegaTrack or HPAC is installed,
HP Statistics Module will install as a stand-alone tool.
MegaTrack 3.8 and HPAC 3.8 contain pre-installed HP Statistics Modules.

Settings
Use the Settings tab to enter the device user name and password, select the mode of operation and
view license information.

Device
Enter the device user name and password before scanning and configuring devices.
NOTE: By default, the user name and password fields are blank. A message displays if the user
does not enter the user name and password before scanning for devices.

Click Test to test the Statistics callback service.

Critical client
The job accounting application operates in one of two modes: Normal Operation or Critical Client
Operation. These modes take effect when the device is unable to upload job accounting data to the
client application, and the stored data from multiple jobs fills up the devices buffer.

Normal Operation: This is the default mode of operation. In this mode, if the buffer fills, the
device deletes the oldest jobs data from the buffer as a new job is processed. Up to 16 clients
can subscribe for Normal Operation.

Critical Client Operation: To activate this mode, click the checkbox next to Critical client. In
this mode, if the buffer fills, the device prevents any new jobs (print or walk-up) from initiating. If
the data from the server to the client must be reliable, use this mode of operation.
NOTE: When using Normal Operation, a fixed IP address is recommended to keep the Statistics
service working properly. If either the IP address or the network name changes, reconfiguration is
recommended but not required. If both the IP address and the network name change, then
reconfiguration is required.
NOTE: When using Critical Client Operation, only one client can subscribe. After a client
subscribes to this mode, all other clients that request a subscription are rejected.

License
The License section displays only if CTRM or BRM is installed.
The License section displays the licensing ID Key, Activation Key and Expiration Date. This section
also displays the number of devices currently licensed and the total number of allowed licenses for the
Activation key. The default license includes up to ten devices and expires two weeks after the day of
installation.
NOTE: If the license Activation Key is expired, a red icon displays, indicating the license is invalid.

printer to respond. The default value is 100.
3. Click Add to add the range to the list in the display field.
4. Click Start to begin the scan.

Device data
When the device discovery is complete, the columns contain data from the discovered devices.

Colored rows indicate the configuration and license status of devices:

White indicates the device is not configured or licensed.

Blue indicates the device is configured and licensed.
Red indicates the device is configured but not licensed. To reconfigure the device, select the
row, click Unconfigure, then click Configure.
The following default columns display device information:

This is the preferred method to unconfigure a device. Follow the steps below to unconfigure a device
using this method:
1. Click the device IP address.
2. Click Unconfigure.

From the printer EWS

This method is only recommended if the HP Statistics Module is unavailable and the device is

HP Statistics Module when it becomes available.
Follow the steps below to unconfigure a device using this method:
1. Go to the printer embedded Web server (EWS) and click Sign In.
2. Type the device user name and password, then click OK.
