Test 2 : Turning Away From SIN and Its Enslavement.

(Pagbiya Gikan sa Sala ug sa Pagkaulipon Niini)

1 John 3: 4-9
Blessed afternoon to all of us! Tell the person beside you : You are moi (gwapo or gwapa ka). You are GODs beloved! Let us open our Bibles in 1 John 3 : 4-9, this is a continuation of our study last Sunday, about : The Proof That One Really Loves GOD : Six Tests. The purpose of studying this , is for us to make sure of ourselves if we really love GOD or not. And for us to recognize and distinguish between those who truly love GOD and those who do not or those who are just pretending and saying that they love GOD. Last Sunday we had discussed already the first test from the six tests of knowing if a person really loves GOD, and that is : Experiencing GODs Incredible Love. Meaning GODs love is not yet residing in you if dont receive JESUS CHRIST as your personal Lord and Savior. Because this is the only way that you will experience GODs Incredible love. You cannot give what you dont have!

Intro : This Sunday we are going to talk about the second test : Turning away
from Sin and its enslavement. Have we turned away from sin? Have we been born of GOD? When we love someone, we want to know and please him/her. We want his/her approval and acceptance. Therefore we do all we can to please him/her. So it is with GOD. If we love HIM, we want to know and please HIM. We want HIS approval and acceptance. Therefore we do all we can to make HIM happy! GOD is righteous; HE is pure and HOLY. There is no sin in HIM. Therefore, the person who loves GOD lives a righteous life, a pure and holy life. He does not live

in sin; he does not practice sin. He lives in righteousness and he practices righteousness. He does all he can to please GOD whom he loves! Turning Away From Sin and its Enslavement. This is the second test that shows whether or not we love GOD. Question : Have we turned away from sin? Have the habits of sin been broken and conquered in our lives? Have we been truly born again by the SPIRIT of GOD? Turning Away From Sin and Its Enslavement.

The Need For Deliverance : Man is Sinful (Ang Panginahanglanon Para sa Kaluwasan) (v.4).

Man is sinful because : he practices sin and breaks the law according to verse 4. What does it mean?
There is the need for deliverance. Man is sinful and he breaks the law. Few people like to be called a sinner. Some people even react to the statement that men are sinners. Why? There is a reason for this why they react. Because to most people sin is thought to be the gross sins of society, the crimes that make the headlines of our newspapers and telecasts. The sins committed by most people are not thought to be that serious. Most people think that what little wrong they do, could never be interpreted as sin. Therefore, to them they only commit : A mistake A short coming A failure A psychological quirk A flaw of nature A bad decision An irrational act A social flaw

This is not what sin is, not to the Bible and not to GOD. Sin is the lawlessness. It is violating the law of GOD. Sin is choosing to go ones own way in life, doing ones own thing instead of doing what GOD says. Sin is living like one wants instead of living like GOD says. Sin is disobeying GOD, not doing what GOD says to do and doing what GOD says not to do. Sin is disbelieving GOD instead of believing what GOD says. Sin is ignoring GOD and neglecting GOD instead of following and worshipping HIM as HE says. Sin is rebelling against GOD instead of doing what GOD says. Sin is rejecting GOD and denying GOD instead of confessing GOD and becoming a follower of GOD. And note : GOD is perfect. Therefore, only perfection is acceptable to GOD. If GOD lets anything less than perfection into heaven, then heaven would no longer be perfect. Therefore, GOD can never accept anything other than perfection. This is what sin is : imperfection falling short of GODs glory and of GODs perfect nature. Consequently, man not only does things that come short of GODs perfection; man himself is short of GODs nature. This is what we must know and understand as man as GODs creation! Meaning : Man is a sinner. He himself is short of GODs glory, short of perfection. Therefore, whatever he does is short of GOD; mans acts are imperfect. At the very root of things, this is what sin is : it is imperfection; it is being and coming short of GODs glory and nature. It is not only that we do things that are short of perfection, but we ourselves are short of GODs glory, short by nature, short of what we should be(perfect). Man is not only a sinner, he is sinful. The reason he is sinful is because he has broken GODs law. If he had never broken the law of GOD, then he would have dwelt in the perfect nature of GOD. He would have always obeyed GOD; therefore, he would have lived in the glory of GOD and never come short of GODs will and nature. It was lawlessness, going against GODs law and nature, that caused the fall of man. Therefore, sin is lawlessness, disobeying GODs law, falling short of what GOD says. Romans 3:23 For all have sinned and fall short of the glory GOD. Meaning we are sinful and sinner that is why we practices sin and breaks the law of GOD. Therefore, there is the Need for Deliverance for us! This is the truth that we all people in this

world must know and understand : that we are sinful and sinner and that we need to be deliver!

II.

The Provision For Deliverance : CHRIST Took Away Our Sins ( Ang Probisyon Para sa Kaluwasan : Si CRISTO Nagwagtang Sa Atong mga Sala) (v.5)

The bad news is : there is the need for us to be saved because we are sinful. But cheer up! There is a very good news for us : there is a solution : Someone provided the deliverance for us : CHRIST took away our sins!(say this 3 times) There is the provision for deliverance. JESUS CHRIST, the Son of GOD, came to earth to take away our sins. John 1:29 The next day John saw JESUS coming toward him and said,Look, the LAMB of GOD, who takes away the sin of the world! How is this possible? How is it possible for CHRIST to actually remove our sins and take them away so that GOD can accept us? This is the tremendous questions that all of us must answer because lots of people today dont believe that what CHRIST had done on the cross at Calvary is the perfect sacrifice already in the sight of GOD the FATHER for us to be save and perfect in GODs sight. By living a sinless life. Note the words of the verse : in HIM is no sin. Meaning when JESUS CHRIST came to earth as a Man, HE lived a sinless life. HE was perfectly righteous! HE secured the perfect and ideal righteousness; HE was the Perfect and Ideal Man. Therefore as the Perfect Man, whatever JESUS CHRIST did could stand for and cover man. What does this mean? Simply this : when JESUS CHRIST died, HIS death was the perfect sacrifice for sins. HE was the Perfect Man so HE was able to die as the perfect sacrifice. Therefore GOD was able to accept HIS death as the perfect sacrifice for sins. And what happens is this : when we really believe in JESUS CHRIST, GOD counts the sacrifice of JESUS CHRIST for us. GOD counts the sacrifice of JESUS CHRIST for us! Meaning GOD no longer sees our sins, for JESUS CHRIST took them and died for them. They are thereby removed from us, and we are counted free of sin (repeat this 3 times). They are gone forever because JESUS CHRIST took them upon HIMSELF and died for them! Consequently, being free of sin, we become acceptable to GOD!

So stop trying hard to become righteous or perfect in GODs sight by your own effort, because JESUS CHRIST had already worked for it, or provided our deliverance for righteousness when HE died on the cross at Calvary! What you must need to do is : accept and trust JESUS worked on the cross at Calvary and JESUS Himself, and you will be saved from Sin and its Enslavement! This is what we called : the great love of GOD for man, the giving of HIS Son to die for the sins of man. John 3:16-17 For GOD so loved the world that HE gave HIS One and Only Son, that whoever believes in HIM shall not perish but have eternal life. For GOD did not send HIS Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through HIM. 2 Cor. 5:21 GOD made HIM who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in HIM we might become the righteousness of GOD. If a person truly loves GOD, then that person bows in humble adoration before GODs Son. The person loves GOD because GOD sacrificed HIS own Son in order to save man. This is the test of our love for GOD : Have we turned from sin to GODs SON? JESUS CHRIST provided our Salvation : HE took Away Our Sins!

III.

The Proof Of Deliverance (Ang Proyba Sa Kaluwasan) (v.6-7)

There is the proof of deliverance. A person lives, abides, in CHRIST if he has turned from sin. When we accept JESUS CHRIST as Savior from sin, we begin to live in HIM. What does living in CHRIST means : to dwell, continue, stay, sojourn, and rest in CHRIST. It means to live and move and have our being in CHRIST. We just begin to live and dwell in CHRIST, all that HE is and all that HE taught! Note the three points : 1. If we live in CHRIST, we do not continue to sin( v.6). If we have really accepted JESUS CHRIST as our Savior, we love HIM because HE died for us not because HE gave us more blessings. CHRIST paid such an enormous price to take away our sins that we want to make HIM happy. We dare not do anything to hurt HIM or cause HIM pain; therefore, we do all we can to make HIM happy! And the major thing we do is to turn away from sin and begin living in CHRIST. Our desire is not to walk in sin, but to turn away from sin and to break the habits of sin all

for HIM, not for us to be save but all for HIM, all because our hearts and lives now belong to HIM who has loved us and given HIMSELF for us! This is the proof of whether or not we love GOD : have we accepted JESUS CHRIST as our Savior from sin? Are we living, abiding, moving, and having our being in HIM, in all that HE is and in all that HE taught? Have we turned away from sin, from practicing and living in sin?
