Ask for prayers and explain that the foundation of this talk is Jesus Christ.

The principles discussed are founded in a testimony of him. In the final chapters of the book of Mormon Moroni talks about 3 vital principles which are tools for us to use during our lives. Faith, hope and Charity. It is sometimes easy for us to take these tools for granted because we hear about them so often. They are tools of great power. However this is evidence of their importance. Using these three tools in our lives will bring joy instead of regret; peace when faced with the turmoils of life; and commitment and direction in times of uncertainty or temptation. Today in the few short minutes I have I will discuss the principle of Hope. True to the Faith The word hope is sometimes misunderstood. In our everyday language, the word often has a hint of uncertainty. For example, we may say that we hope for a change in the weather or a visit from a friend. In the language of the gospel, however, the word hope is sure, unwavering, and active. Prophets speak of having a "firm hope" (Alma 34:41) and a "lively hope" (1 Peter 1:3). The prophet Moroni taught, "Whoso believeth in God might with surety hope for a better world, yea, even a place at the right hand of God, which hope cometh of faith, maketh an anchor to the souls of men, which would make them sure and steadfast, always abounding in good works, being led to glorify God" (Ether 12:4). Hope is what commits us to a goal. It builds desire and it sustains our faith. The Lord changes hopeless situations Samuel the Lamanite: Faced hard hearted people; was kicked out but heard the voice of the Lord; Shared the hopeful word of the Lord; faced death; The Lamanites:
Hel 15: 6 Yea, I say unto you, that the more part of them are doing this, and they are striving with a unwearied diligence that they may bring the remainder of their brethren to the knowledge of the truth; therefore there are many who do add to their numbers daily. 7 And behold, ye do know of yourselves, for ye have witnessed it, that as many of them as are brought to the knowledge of the truth, and are led to believe the holy scriptures, yea, the prophecies of the holy prophets, which leadeth them to faith on the Lord, and unto repentance, which faith and repentance bringeth a achange of heart unto them 9 they have aburied their weapons of war, and they fear to take them up lest by any means they should sin; yea, ye can see that they fear to sinfor behold they will suffer themselves that they be trodden down and slain by their enemies, and will not lift their swords against them, and this because of their bfaith in Christ. 10 And now, because of their asteadfastness when they do believe in that thing which they do believe, for because of their firmness when they are once enlightened, behold, the Lord shall bless them and prolong their days,

The Nephites: Face horrific destruction; Opportunity Hel 14:13 And if ye abelieve on his name ye will repent of all your sins, that thereby ye may have a remission of them through his bmerits.
Hel 14: 30 And now remember, remember, my brethren, that whosoever perisheth, perisheth unto ahimself; and whosoever doeth iniquity, doeth it unto himself; for behold, ye are bfree; ye are permitted to act for yourselves; for behold, God hath given unto you a cknowledge and he hath made you free. 31 He hath given unto you that ye might aknow good from evil, and he hath given unto you that ye might b choose life or death; and ye can do good and be crestored unto that which is good, or have that which is good restored unto you; or ye can do evil, and have that which is evil restored unto you.

What choice did they make? Some turned to Christ; Some let their hearts harden more. All the promises made by Samuel and other prophets were fulfilled. President Uchtdorf said the following in a talk from Oct 2008 conference
Hope Leads to Good Works We learn to cultivate hope the same way we learn to walk, one step at a time. As we study the scriptures, speak with our Heavenly Father daily, commit to keep the commandments of God, like the Word of Wisdom, and to pay a full tithing, we attain hope. 28 We grow in our ability to abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost,29 as we more perfectly live the gospel. There may be times when we must make a courageous decision to hope even when everything around us contradicts this hope. Like Father Abraham, we will against hope [believe] in hope. 30 Or, as one writer expressed, in the depth of winter, [we find] within [us] an invincible summer. 31 Faith, hope, and charity complement each other, and as one increases, the others grow as well. Hope comes of faith,32 for without faith, there is no hope.33 In like manner faith comes of hope, for faith is the substance of things hoped for.34 Hope is critical to both faith and charity. When disobedience, disappointment, and procrastination erode faith, hope is there to uphold our faith. When frustration and impatience challenge charity, hope braces our resolve and urges us to care for our fellowmen even without expectation of reward. The brighter our hope, the greater our faith. The stronger our hope, the purer our charity. The things we hope for lead us to faith, while the things we hope in lead us to charity. The three qualities faith, hope, and charity35working together, grounded on the truth and light of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ, lead us to abound in good works.36

David: I had been working in the construction market for years until the market crashed. I lost my job the same day I found out that my wife was pregnant; we eventually lost the baby. We were really struggling and didnt know what to do or how we could get out of the spiraling hole we were falling into. We prayed to the Lord to find hope in our situation. After praying constantly with all my heart, the lord blessed me and I was able to find a job. I have never had a job more rewarding than my current job. My wife is pregnant again. I know it was the prayers to the Lord to find hope that got me through my trials. Moroni 8:41 And what is it that ye shall ahope for? Behold I say unto you that ye shall have bhope through the atonement of Christ and the power of his resurrection, to be raised unto life ceternal, and this because of your faith in him according to the promise.
