Team Beverly Hills now accepting applications


Team Beverly Hills, the Citys leadership program that gives residents an inside look at local government, is now accepting applications. Team Beverly Hills was designed to create an environment that develops and encourages leadership, participation and responsibility in the Citys residents. Over a five-month period, members will meet 10 times and participate in tours, presentations, demonstrations, informal gatherings and open dialogue with representatives from various City departments. A Night at New LA gala honors Corwin, Becher


The New Los Angeles Charter School will honor Zoe Blumberg Corwin and 1990 Beverly High graduate Carolyn Yashari Becher at A Night at New LA, a gala at the charter school on May 3 from 7 to 9 p.m. Becher is the founding chair and Corwin is a founding board member of the public charter school, which is a middle school for grades 6 to 8. The schools founder and executive director, Matt Albert, is also a 1990 Beverly High graduate. The gala will feature a performance by singer-songwriter Jesse Macht, a 2001 Beverly High graduate. Celebrate Beverly Hills Little Leagues 60th anniversary this Saturday


Beverly Hills Little League is celebrating its 60th anniversary this Saturday at the senior and north fields of La Cienega Park from 4 to 7 p.m. The celebration, which is open to the Ron Cey public, features an appearance from special guest Ron Cey, who played third base for the Dodgers in the 1970s and early 1980s; a homerun derby for kids; a parade of teams; and a coaches versus coaches exhibition game. Horace Mann students learn about schools namesake in Boston


A group of Horace Mann students spent their spring break in Boston, where they visited the Massachusetts State House, which houses the Massachusetts General Court and the governors offices. The State House also features a statue of Horace Mann, which has been standing since 1863. Horace Mann was appointed Secretary of the Massachusetts State Board of Education in 1837 and is often referred to as the father of public education. Mann founded and edited The Common School Journal, which presented education principles including that education is best provided when the school accepts children from all different backgrounds, that education should be free, that education should be nonsectarian, and that education should be taught by professional, well-trained teachers. Adrian Spitz both had two hits, while Jared Forman, Zach Gaon and Mason each had one for Beverly Hills. Oliver Yi pitched a complete game for the victory. The Normans lost the second game, 8-5. Jared Forman drove in two runs and Laemmle, Mason and Reskin one each. Grant Thompson went two-for-two for Beverly Hills, while Jared Forman, Laemmle, Mason, Reskin and Spitz each had one hit. Silbigers ground out in the first also drove in Shapiro, who walked. Silbigers bases-loaded walk in the second forced in Kylie Colvin, the Normans No. 9 hitter, who walked. BHHS Girls Lacrosse Team Defeats Downey


The Beverly High girls lacrosse team defeated host Downey, 18-15, in a Bay League game March 30, with Savannah Slotkin scoring five goals for the Normans and Natasha Kashani four. Jasman Naziri and Dillan Watts both scored three goals for Beverly Hills (4-7, 2-3 in league play), Celine Elias two and Sarah Baek one. Norman goalie Inbar Avrahami made nine saves. Beverly Hills lost at Redondo 21-6 in a Bay League game March 23, with Watts scoring four goals and Kashani two. Norman goalie Madison Steinberg made seven saves.

BHHS Boys Lacrosse Team Defeats Redondo


The Beverly High boys lacrosse team defeated Redondo, 10-7, March 23 at Beverly High, its fourth victory in six games. Nick Heller scored four goals, Maddy ONeill three, Sebastian Vericella two and Morgan Henderson one for the Normans (4-5, 1-4 in league play).

BHHS Baseball Team Defeats San Gorgonio

BHHS Softball Team Routs Morningside


Beverly High defeated Morningside, 17-0, in an Ocean League softball game March 27 at Beverly High, as Lexi Silbiger homered and drove in five runs and freshman Shyra Costas pitched a onehitter in a game shortened to 4 innings because of the 10-run rule. Silbiger homered during a four-run fourth inning, driving in Leah Shapiro, who singled.
