FoodWorks 2009 includes enhanced support for declaring ingredients for ingredient statements. The options are now all in a single drop-down menu. Declaring a concentrate as a reconstituted ingredient is also simplified. For a sub-recipe, you can choose either to merge its ingredients into the final ingredient statement or to declare it as a compound ingredient.

You can now group ingredients into user-defined categories for the ingredient statements of labels. For example, you might classify raw materials like strawberry and apple into the group fruit. Then in the ingredient statement of a label they appear as fruit (apple, strawberry).

About upgrading to FoodWorks 2009

Important information
When you open a FoodWorks Version 3 database in FoodWorks 2009 some modifications are made to the database which mean it can no longer be opened in FoodWorks Version 3. NOTE: For this reason, when you are evaluating FoodWorks 2009, we recommend that you make a copy of your database and then open that copy in FoodWorks 2009. FoodWorks 2009 contains new features and also implements some existing features in different ways to FoodWorks Version 3. These changes mean that the results obtained using FoodWorks 2009 may differ from those obtained using FoodWorks Version 3. When you open an existing Version 3 database with FoodWorks 2009 you have the option to generate an upgrade report. It is recommended that you do. If you plan to migrate your existing Version 3 data for use in FoodWorks 2009, the upgrade report is important to you and you will want to understand and resolve any issues identified. The report details the changes that have occurred in your NIPs, ingredient statements and allergen declarations when generated by FoodWorks 2009. See Differences in the results generated by FoodWorks on page 4 for an overview of the differences that can occur. NOTE: To generate the upgrade report, FoodWorks Version 3 must be installed along with FoodWorks 2009. Therefore do not un-install FoodWorks Version 3 until after you have completed the evaluation and upgrading process. To upgrade to FoodWorks 2009 and migrate your existing databases you can choose one of these options: Send-to-Xyris option (recommended)Send your existing FoodWorks databases to Xyris Software (provided confidentially requirements are met). Xyris performs the conversion and generates the upgrade report. We then send you the upgraded databases along with the upgrade reports and a summary of any issues we identify. To enquire about this free service, please call 07 3223 5300 or email info@xyris.com.au. Do-it-yourself optionInstall FoodWorks 2009 and make a copy or back-up of the existing database. Choose the option to create an upgrade report when the database is first opened. You can then review the report and resolve any issues that are identified. Steps for upgrading to FoodWorks 2009 on page 5 guides you through the process.

Differences in the results generated by FoodWorks

This table (the complete version of the table is contained in the upgrade report) summarises the main types of differences in the data generated by FoodWorks Version 3 and FoodWorks 2009:

Change

May be due to:

Explanation In FoodWorks 2009, values for nutrients and components that have been enabled then hidden are no longer used in calculations to derive other nutrient values. In contrast, FoodWorks Version 3 uses any defined nutrient value in calculations even if that nutrient is no longer enabled for the database. There have been some changes to the way nutrient values are calculated. In general such changes should be minor. In FoodWorks Version 3 results are displayed even if the yield is not valid. In FoodWorks 2009 results are set to unknown if the percent water is known and the yield is found to be invalid.

Hidden nutrients not used in calculations

Changes to nutrient values

Changes to some nutrient calculations Invalid yield values now detected

Changes due to the way values Some small discrepancies may occur due to minor changes in the way values are rounded are rounded during calculations. Changes to Energy in AUSNUT Allergen Statement changes Some changes to the energy value for some foods in AUSNUT means that raw materials which use that data will also have updated energy values. The term soy has been replaced with soybean as per the Food Standards Code. FoodWorks 2009 attempts to ensure correct spacing and format of ingredient statements. This will result in changes to the ingredients statements as compared to FoodWorks Version 3. Some changes have been made to the way FoodWorks generates ingredients. For example, in FoodWorks Version 3 it was possible to incorrectly declare an ingredient with both an additive code and compound ingredient statement. This is not possible in FoodWorks 2009 In FoodWorks Version 3 the serve size shown in the NIP is rounded to a whole number. FoodWorks 2009 reports the serve size to the level of precision entered in the serve size box. For example, if the serve size is specified as 3.3g, then it is reported as 3g in FoodWorks Version 3 but as 3.3g in FoodWorks 2009.
