A brief history
of
Another Broken Egg Cafe
Welcome to Another Broken Egg! A ten year steady restaurant growth plan slated to carry us
through the Southeastern region and quite possibly throughout all parts of the U.S.A.!
The journey started in 1983, where we came across a charming Café in San Diego, Ca.. After
several years of living in California and regularly patronizing the establishment, we decided to move
back to our southern roots in 1992. After a couple of months home, we realized just how badly we
missed this great little Café in southern California with the diversified menu and friendly service. We
formulated a plan and with a complete career change in mind decided to take the chance and jump
into the world of entrepreneurship and the restaurant business!
Our mid-life “clarity” has brought to you a fabulous and innovative menu with some of our own
great southern spins to make it simply the best fare available for Breakfast, Brunch and Lunch!
In the beginning…...In 1908, the only doctor in the small quaint town of Mandeville, Louisiana
(on the North shore of Lake Pontchartrain), built a summer home from old barge wood brought over
from the New Orleans wharves. Its simplistic but strong Creole cottage design kept the building
solid, but dormant for many years to come. Inspired by its architectural features, we felt this the
perfect location for our first venture into the restaurant business. Our restoration started in 1994 &
took two years to awaken this sleeping beauty! The cypress French doors, heart pine floors and walls
of various weathered colors, came to life with a little imagination and a lot of hard work! By the
summer of 1996, flowing waterfalls and fountains, lush landscaping with used brick sidewalks and an
interior kicked up a notch with bold colors and antique furnishings greeted our first customers. The
“Broken Egg” Café was hatched!
The formula was a proven success from the start, with virtually no advertising (other than word of
mouth), we open our doors in late 1996 with remarkable success. Within two months, we were
breaking over 1400 eggs a week! Great food, friendly outgoing service, a charming French country
décor in an old home setting and a menu that breakfast and brunch lovers could not possibly resist is
our success story! With such an overwhelming customer response, we felt the natural thing to do
was to bring our “Nothing short of right is right” philosophy to the Florida panhandle, which
incidentally, is where we spent our childhood and have witnessed over years this area grow to a true
vacation haven.
Destin in the 60’s with only 12 fishing boats in the harbor was a sleepy little fishing village pulling
out huge Sailfish, Amberjack, Grouper & Red Snapper by the boat full! Today’s bustling shoreline is in
stark contrast….Water parks, jet ski’s, great golf courses and parasailing on all horizons has turned
Destin into a annual summer destination. When crossing the Destin bridge in the early years,
Holiday Isle was nothing but vacated white sandy land with not one building in sight! One of the
biggest past times (excluding fishing) was finding old VW bugs and turning them into chopped down
dune buggies. The beach and sand dunes were our playground with no restrictions whatsoever!
Nestled between Fort Walton Beach and Destin, Okaloosa Island got the most play from locals and
tourists. Tower Beach & Wayside Pier (currently the Radisson Inn & the Swamp), were the happen-
ing hangouts. Music, dancing, hot dogs and go-carts in open air pavilions personified the easy and
simple life of the sixties! Sand dunes over 100 feet high awaited the sand skiing brigades every
weekend. As teenagers, we would remove the skeg off our old wooden water ski's , do a little power
waxing and sail down the dunes at breakneck speed! Usually sailing into the water end over end!
In our first 8 years in the restaurant business, over 1.4 million guests have enjoyed our fare! So
here before you is our fifth step into a long journey of what we hope to be a “String of Pearl”
restaurants dotting the Gulf Coast and extending to all parts of the South!
Our pledge to you is we will always serve you a fresh and nourishing meal made from the finest
ingredients that we can find. We’ll go to extra lengths to present your meal to you wholesomely
prepared, with a smile, and with fresh ground coffee in our personalized handmade mugs. We know
our success is directly associated to how well you are treated and we hope you’ll notice that we pay
special attention to that detail. We also invite you to comment to our Owner/Managers at any time
on any positive or negative issue that you might like to talk about. As they will only grow stronger
and better by your important comments! For the last six years in a row, we have won the “Best of
the Emerald Coast” award for the Best Breakfast restaurant…..from Pensacola to Panama City! And in
Tallahassee we’re a winner for five years! Surely, we must be doing something right!
