Mr Tan boon Li Teacher-in-charge Student development committee Anglican High School

Dear Mr Tan, RE: Proposed Challenge for Change for class 4C I have evaluated the three challenges that the school has set for the graduating classes. After careful thought, I propose that my class would undertake the Challenge for Change. I truly believe that the Challenge for Change is suitable due to our class profile. As helpful teenagers, we are always ready to lend a helping hand to the society and are keen to serve the community. Interacting with people from all walks of life is our forte too. Hence, I hope that this challenge is able to fulfil our desires to care and help the needy in the society as well as to enhance our communication skills. On the contrary, since our class is already a triple science class, the Challenge for Science and Technology would be overly redundant and excessive. Similarly, the Challenge for Personal Growth is unnecessary as my class is already well-equipped with personal mastery skills like time management and discipline skills. Thus, only the Challenge for Change suitably fits our class profile. The Challenge for Change would be especially meaningful and beneficial for our class. By bringing about a positive change to our society, we would take this opportunity to gain more exposure to voluntary work. Moral values like respect, care and sympathy would be learnt and developed through interaction with the less fortunate. Surely, we would be able to bridge the gap between teenagers and the needy and also to pique our interest in doing more voluntary work in the future too. Therefore, I believe my class would definitely benefit immensely from this challenge.

Upon careful research and planning, I have planned to let my class help out at the Bedok Old Folks Home for a week. For the first and second day of visit, we would divide ourselves up into groups of ten and go about from ward to ward to visit the elderly and chat with them. Subsequently on the fourth third and fourth day, we would tidy up and redecorate the entertainment room and exercise room. This would require my classmates to bring their own art materials. On the fifth and sixth day, we would bring two groups of elderly to the Bedok Reservoir Park for fresh air. As the park is located a stones throw away from the Home, my classmates and I would push the elderly in wheelchairs there. On the last day of visit, our class would put up a series of performances and games to entertain and thank the elderly for allowing us to visit that whole week. I am sure my class would look forward to these activities lined up during this one week period, All in all, I hope that I have convinced you to let my class take up the Challenge for change and that you would accept my proposal for this challenge. Thank you. Yours sincerely,

Ho Wen Qi
