LIBR 241 Please discuss your librarys presence in social media (or the presence of another organization you

know). Give some thoughts on what has been successful, and what has not!

LIBR 275 Based on the articles, your research, and experiences, post your response to one (or more) of the following questions. 1. Marketing/Outreach and Information Seeking: Discuss how the information seeking behaviors and theories from the earlier modules (small world, diffusion of innovation) might be used to market or promote programs to such diverse groups as Latino teens that are reluctant readers, homeless veterans, GLBTQQ, persons with disabilities, or Asian elderly. Identify and discuss which communication channels might be most useful for promoting your programs or exchanging information with the target population for year round programming?

2. Event or Cultural Tradition Programming: From the articles, Diversity Exercise #4 postings, or supplemental sites, select a key issue or strategy or event, and discuss how it can be used to create a program based around an event or activity that is or could be celebrated by all groups. In your discussion, identify and explain what factors you would need to consider to "distinguish" among different groups - so as to not offend them or "lump several distinct subunits" together.

3. Education and Information: Year-round programming can be used to increase awareness of the library, as well as educating the public and nonlibrary users about the services, collections, and information provided by libraries. Identify an underserved group and an activity or event that could be used for programming for this purpose. Explain how the event would be used to showcase the library. Cite specific examples in your discussions. 4. Advocacy: In addition to programming, advocacy is one way to increase library presence in underserved communities. As you review the articles, identify OR cite key factors you would need to consider to use programming to advocate on behalf of a marginalized group in your community. You might want to check the listing of community events in your local newspaper OR the calendar of events at your local library to identify activities that you could support or deem as being appropriate for advocating for your diverse group. Indicate how you would revise the activity or event to make it more culturally appropriate for your target population. 5. Continuous Visibility: Continuous or ongoing visibility is important, if we want to make the library an "integral" member of underserved communities. Posting community events or job listings on the library bulletin board is one way to maintain a presence in the library service area. Identify and discuss 2 3 other ways or approaches a Diversity Coordinator could take to general a stronger presence among diverse groups in the library service community. Cite specific examples.
