A RESEARCH STUDY OF CONSUMER PERCEPTION AND PREFERENCE TOWARDS THE 3 G SERVICES

INTRODUCTION
India is a emerging country. For developing of India, we needed the new technology because technology is changing faster and quicker. 3G is new technology which is helping the developing of India. By the help of 3G technology many areas grow very faster such as Education, Business, and Communication etc. Biggest advantage of 3G technology is faster rate of data transfer. Due to use of greater bandwidth and higher transfer rates, transmission of data is much faster than with 1G or 2G phones. Average speed with 3G is around two to three Mbps; as compared to 2Gs which has maximum 384 Kbps. In order to use 3G your cell phone must be 3G supported. Every cell phone is not 3G supported, cell phones which support the 3G are known as smart phones. 3G technology makes your cell phone minicomputer by using high speed down link packet access and universal mobile telephone system which make you sending and receiving data super fast. This is new technology so every Mobile telecommunication companies want to get cover larger market and consumers. But a biggest problem to introduce this services, that everyone don`t know about it and these benefits and uses. So companies have many complexities to create strategies as per consumer requirement. Companies are trying to know requirements and attitude of consumer towards 3G Services. 3G SERVICES 3G or 3rd generation mobile telecommunications is a generation of standards for mobile phones and mobile telecommunication services fulfilling the International Mobile Telecommunications-2000. The high-speed access to voice and data technology is known as 3G service, as it is considered the third generation of cellular telecommunications technology. A 3G Network is necessary for this service to function. It offers advancements on the 1G and 2G networks such as multimedia applications like video and broadband services.

3G service is based on standards developed by the International Telecommunications Union, known as the IMT-2000 criteria. The telephony service itself benefits from better range and wider accessibility. In addition, data transfer speeds are better than dial-up speeds, and more in line with cable modem technology. The key component to 3G service is mobile-to-mobile voice transfer. During this process, three layers of information are sent. The first layer is the actual voice information. The second layer is a control transmission to keep the quality high. The last layer is basic connection information that prevents dropped calls. While there are a number of similarities between Wi-Fi technology and 3G services, a few distinct differences exist. Wi-Fi was created to allow high-bandwidth data transfer over a short range transmission. This makes it ideal for local connectivity to larger networks. 3G networks use large satellite-driven connections that connect to a system of telecommunication towers. This means that the range is far greater than other technologies. HISTORY OF 3G SERVICES The first countries to implement this service option were Japan and South Korea, where 3G now accounts for nearly 70 percent of the networks. Europe and North America, specifically companies in the United Kingdom and United States, have also implemented these services to a bulk of commercial customers. Many countries such as China and Indonesia have delayed the implementation of 3G service due to licensing restrictions and the overall cost of the system. 2G uses a different radio frequency, which means that all new equipment and infrastructure are needed to utilize this service. APPLICATIONS OF 3G The bandwidth and location information available to 3G devices gives rise to applications not previously available to mobile phone users. Some of the applications are:

1. Mobile TV 2. Video On Demand 3. Video Conferencing 4. Internet Access With High Speed

3G SERVICES IN INDIA 11 December 2008, India entered the 3G arena with the launch of 3G enabled Mobile and Data services by Government owned Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd MTNL in Delhi and later in Mumbai. MTNL becomes the first 3G Mobile service provider in India. After MTNL, another state operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) launched 3G services on 22 Feb 2009 in Chennai and later launched 3G as Nationwide. The auction of 3G wireless spectrum was announced in April 2010 and 3G Spectrum allocated to all private operators on 1 September 2010. 3G services providers BSNL MTNL AIRTEL TATADOCOMO AIRCEL IDEA RELIANCE UNINOR TATA INDICOM VODAPHONE

REVIEW OF LITERATURE

CHRISTOPHER P. HOLLAND AND MARTIN CAHILL MANCHESTER have done study on 3G TECHNOLOGY IN LOCAL GOVERNMENT: CASE EXAMPLES OF BUSINESS PROCESS CHANGE AND STRATEGIC INNOVATION. This paper reports some of the key findings from part of a larger research projects into the application of 3G technology in government and public sector applications. The work was sponsored by Vodafone UK plc. One of the key themes identified in the main research project was the importance of strategic innovation and business process change and how these organizational phenomena related to the application of 3G technology to either solve existing problems or create new opportunities to design new work practices. Three case studies examples are offered to illustrate this concept, including Citizens Advice Bureau, Manchester Advice, and the Single Assessment Process (SAP). Each of these organisations managed to implement significant changes to the ways that egovernment services are organised and delivered. An overview of key research in the area of e-government is also given to place the application of 3G technology in a broader technology and organisational context. (JULY 2009 ) SANGWON LEE, PH.D. ASSISTANT PROFESSOR has done syudy THE DEPLOYMENT OF THIRD-GENERATION MOBILE

SERVICES: A MULTINATIONAL ANALYSIS OF CONTRIBUTING FACTORS. As per this study Successful diffusion of 3G mobile is necessary for the provision of many advanced applications via the mobile platform such as mobile broadband Internet and video. The current deployment of 3G services is significantly more developed in some countries than others. Through a regression analysis of 106 observations, this study examines the factors affecting such differences. It was found that multiple standardization policy, lower level of 1G and 2G penetration, and a higher level of income contribute to the diffusion of 3G mobile.

(FEB 2011 )NORAZAH MOHD SUKI has done a study on SUBSCRIBERS INTENTION TOWARDS USING 3G MOBILE SERVICES 3G mobile network offers higher data rates than the previous generation networks (1G and 2G). The purpose of this study is to examine the factors influencing subscribers intention towards using 3G mobile services with the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) as the guiding principle. Cross sectional data were collected through a survey and analyzed by means of factor analysis, correlation and regression analysis. Out of 150 questionnaires, only 100 were usable. Findings show that Perceived Usefulness, Perceived Ease of Use and Attitude are jointly responsible in determining the subscribers intention to use of 3G mobile services. Perceived Usefulness was found as a key factor influences subscribers intention to use 3G mobile services. In addition, implications and direction for future research are discussed. (SEPT. 2006)HEIKKI OF KARJALUOTO THIRD has done a study (3G) on AN

GENERATION

MOBILE

TECHNOLOGIES AND SERVICES. The objective of this paper is to evaluate the underlying paradigms of third generation (3G) mobile services. Given the success of second generation (2G) mobile communications systems and services, the third generation mobile networks and applications are faced with a lot of expectations such as providing ubiquitous access to online services via mobile terminals. However, 3G technologies and applications have encountered obstacles that have hindered both the technology development and user acceptance. This paper reviews existing literature related to 3G and develops a framework that presents the factors that contribute to the success of 3G. The findings provide insight into the development and marketing of 3G services. JINGWEN LIUY_, JIN TENG_, WEIDONG WANGY, YINGHAI ZHANGY have done a study on A LARGE-SCALE FIELD STUDY ON 3G WIRELESS NETWORKS. There are four integral modules in a Cyber-Physical Networking System (CPNS): sensing, communication, decision, actuating. Among them, the communication module plays the vital role of central liaison. It glues everything together and orchestrates the operation of the whole system. Nowadays, local

communications are not enough for practical CPNSs which can be very large in geographical scale. Such CPNSs require reliable and fast communication channels over a long distance. The 3G cellular networks provide a convenient and mature way. However, as different standards compete for dominance in the 3G market, it is necessary for us to gain a thorough understanding of the empirical performance for each of the standards. In this paper, we have conducted a large-scale empirical field study on 3G mobile systems performance in China. From the results, we have confirmed that the performance of 3G is largely satisfactory, especially in indoor environments and for high rate data services. On the other hand, we have made some unexpected new findings, which are helpful to improve the 3G system, especially the TDSCDMA networks, to better serve the needs of practical large CPNSs. (JUNE 2003) KIMBERLEY LEAHY has done AND a study on COMMUNICATION INFRASTRUCTURE WIRELESS

COMMUNICATION IN ESTONIA. Telecommunications is one of the fastest growing markets in Estonia. Of the three Baltic States, research has shown that Estonia, while the smallest, has made by far the most successful foray into the wireless communication arena. Economic and public policy within the former Soviet Union had left Balkan communication infrastructure in disarray, and liberalization of the Estonian telecom sector was necessary for the countrys bid for EU membership. This paper will discuss the literature addressing Estonias leap into twenty-first century communication technology, with its savvy bypass of obsolete communication infrastructure paradigms inherited from the former Soviet Union.

NEED OF THE STUDY

Today business era are completely changed, now customers are kings. Today scenario every costumer bring a force upon a company focus on the customization or we can say that think about the consumers needs and requirement. 3G service is new in India, so it is compulsory to understand perception of consumer for 3g services for companies, Andalso this area have been number of player such as BSNL, MTNL, AIRTEL, TATADOCOMO, AIRCEL, IDEA, RELIANCE, UNINOR, TATA INDICOM, VODAPHONE etc. in the market, so competition has been increased in that condition, companies want make good image in the mind of the consumers. This study helps in understand the consumers mind set as: 1. 2. 3. Perception of consumers about the 3G services. Their spending capacity for it.
