Life in Year 6 is very challenging for most of
us. Hard work and getting prepared for
SAT's that is why we get homework three
times a week. Ouch! The teacher that we
have {Glyn } also says that he is really
harsh and straight forward because he
wants us to do well. So this is a good thing really. We do
hard work that most children find challenging. As most
parents know, in May we are going to fight against doing
test papers to get into the right secondary school.

Some children think that they have time to relax and mess
around, but they dont know what they will have to do in
future to catch up on the time they wasted. When they are
older they may not get a good job. Elle from year six com-
ments that: Year 6 is really stressful but sometimes it
can be really fun when teachers try to entertain us. This
half term, our Head Teacher decided to give us a home-
work book to write
about our holidays. Elle
adds: We have been
given these books be-
cause we dont want
our brains dropping out
over the holidays and
we should keep writing.
We want the best
grades we can get!
Stressful! says Oriana

exams I'm gonna
have to take in few
years time

It was winter so hopefully you wrapped up in warm woolly clothes. This article will tell
you all about what shops you can buy winter clothes from and what you need to wear
when you go outdoors.

Firstly, you need to buy jumpers and trousers that are suitable for outdoors when it
is winter. For example M&S, Primark, Peacocks, H&M and Westfield all sell suitable
winter jumpers, trousers and much more. So make sure you get up and go clothes
shopping! Prices range from just 99p on the eBay website to an outrageous 610 from
Dolce & Gabbana! Secondly, if you want to go outside in winter you should wear:
A woolly jumper
Winter trousers
A woolly hat
A scarf
A pair of gloves

The girls clothing trends for spring 2012 involves soft colours (with
lots of girly elements). Imagine clothing with pastel pinks, blues,
greens and yellows. This look aims to keep little girls comfortable
and well dressed. The idea is to come away from styles that are inap-
propriate for toddlers and little girls in order to keep kids looking
young (which they are). Look for classic designs which are fun and
girly.

The boys springtime trends for 2012 involve strong vibrant colours,
in contrast to the girls. This includes sport which contains strong
blues and bright yellows. When I say sport, this means football
boots, etc.

If you want to go to somewhere in the summer holidays, think
carefully - we will give you some tips for were you can go.

The beach is normally hot in the summer.
Countries are all different.
Funfairs are true to their name!
Cinemas have lots of new films.

Yasmin is going to Algeria. Badrieh is going to New York.
Monica is (hoping) to go to Barbados.
Leanne is going to Turkey,
Juliet and I [Alice] are going to Paris.
Quraisha is going to Africa. Aymara is going to Ireland.
Oriana is going to Portugal. Diego is going Butlins.
Ivie is going to her friends house.
Linda is going to Sweden.

Oriana Reports: Year 5 and 6 went on a trip to Morden Hall
Park. The experiences we found there were really good. Jessica in
Year 6 commented I learnt a lot. I found out that a river was 11
miles long. As you can see it was a real experience for them. This
park is huge and full of animals, such as ducks. In the beginning you
will find a lot of flies (irritation)! From Waterloo it is approxi-
mately 20 min on 2 tubes. It is a wonderful site so go and visit it.

I havent had lots of good experiences in my life although spending
time with everybody you learn about their experiences; the chal-
lenges they have set for themselves; and how they feel about it. I
have asked a few about their challenges/experiences.

Aymara: When I went to Arethusa I did the high ropes. There
were huge pieces of wood which I had climbed and I was scared
but I got a certificate for being the best high roper.

Ashaaf: When my whole family went to Chessington it was fun.

Yasmin: When I went to France, I went to my cousins house. I
stayed there for five days. I went pony riding and shopping and I
had a very delicious vanilla clair. YUM!!!! I regret turning down
money from my dad.

Leanne: Challenges Im glad I have done are working in Camp
America. I had great time! It is a childrens camp in America. My
only regret is not taking a teaching job in Japan.

Monica: Swimming with the turtles and spectacular colourful fish-
es in Barbados. It was a superb experience!

Kat: I loved scuba diving, jumping off a cliff and more. (Wow she
has done lots more).

Is School Uniform a
Good Influence or a
Bore to Children?

Many people have different opinions about
wearing school uniform. This article explores
the numerous thoughts of what people feel
about wearing school uniform. Below, I have
shown the quotes from people about how they
feel about the benefits of wearing school uni-
form and whether school uniform is a bore to
children or a great influence.

In Favour of School Uniform

Alice (Y5) says: Everyone should be smart and no one should have to fuss
about what to wear every morning, also it will urge parents to send their
young ones to that school.

Oriana (Y6) says: yes because if we wear our own clothes we might rip it
and waste earned money.

Linda (Y5) says: It will be a better representation when the school goes
outside on a trip, also you will be noticed easily if we were to ever get
lost.

Quraisha (Y6) says: School uniform makes you look smart.
Elle in year six says: If a child was to ever get lost they will be distin-
guished and go back to school.

Diego (Y6) says: Makes everyone look equal.

Leanne (Y3 Teacher) says: Makes everyone equal and part of the school.

7

Badrieh (Y6) says: We should wear uniform because it shows
the school is disciplined and the children might show off
their clothes and competition will rise

Monica (T.A.) says: Children wont get jealous about what
other children are wearing.

Against Wearing School Uniform

Ahlam (Y6) says: Our parents wont have to pay for uniform and children can
wear their own clothes

Anonymous says: You waste money in supermarkets buying school uniform as
the price increases and teachers say, follow the example of adults when they
dont wear uniforms themselves

Aymara (Y6) says: Since London is such a thriving city, I think adults should
encourage children individuality to stand out from the crowd

Juliet (Y4) says We shouldnt wear uniform but we should get to wear our
own clothes

Ashaaf (Y6) says: Adults do not wear uniform so why should we?

It seems that people in favour have won this battle. Eight people are in fa-
vour whilst only five people are against. Better luck next time for those who
are against wearing school uniform!

Having listened to people speak about both sides of the argument, I can
see reasons why both arguments are to be considered. Non-uniform is
good as everybody wants to show off their sense of style and show off
clothes they have bought for high prices. But wearing uniform does show
how disciplined the school is and why going there is a wonderful idea.

Aymara Says..

is here!

Springtime is now officially here! With the birds singing and
the flowers blossoming theres no reason why YOU dont
have to fit in! Here are tips, facts and loads more. So get
your bottom off that sofa and get going!

Can you see something changing around you? Is it the at-
mosphere or just the smile turning upwards on peoples fac-
es? Its both and you should join in. Here are a few recipes
to get the energy going:

To make the basic cookie dough you will need:
250g butter , softened
140g caster sugar
1 egg yolk
2 tsp. vanilla extract
300g plain flour

To make the basic cookie dough
Mix the butter and sugar in a large bowl with a wooden
spoon, then add the egg yolk and vanilla - briefly beat to
combine. Sift over the flour and stir until the mixture is
well combined - you might need to get your hands in at the
end to give everything a really good mix and to press the
dough together.
Adult help
needed
9

To make the cookies you will need:
1 quantity of the dough mixture
1 tsp. cinnamon
6 tbsp raspberry jam
6 tbsp icing sugar, sifted
icing , to decorate
Heat oven to 180C/fan 160C/gas 4. Make up the Basic bis-
cuit dough, sifting in the cinnamon when you add the flour.
Shape into 2 balls, wrap in cling film and chill for 20-30
mins.

Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface, and then
stamp out 28 biscuits with a 7-8cm wide cutter. Lay these
on non-stick baking sheets. Using a 4cm cutter, cut out
the 'noses' from half the biscuits. Bake for 10-12 minutes
until pale golden, then lift onto a cooling rack.

Mix the raspberry jam with the sifted icing sugar. When
the biscuits are cool, spoon a little of the jam onto each
whole biscuit, then carefully sandwich the other biscuits
on top. Serve as they are, or pipe icing, made with a little
water, to draw funny faces.

There will be lots of competitions going on. One
in particular, will be who can make the best dish

Where was it found?
A new kind of snake was recently found in Tanzania, which is an
East African country next to Kenya.

How was it discovered?
Two years ago, a seven year old girl in Tanzania discovered a
new species of snake and the snake was named after her. Ma-
tilda had found the snake and kept it in her garden without
telling anybody. Finally, her parents found out and the snake
was taken away by snake experts to be tested.

What does the snake look like?
This striking snake is 60cm long. It is a black and yellow viper
with spiky horns above its green eyes.

About the snake
Where the snake is, is being kept secret because they dont
want it to go to the illegal pet trade. Sadly, people are chopping
down trees (which are
their habitat), because of
this the viper is an en-
dangered species. Thank-
fully they have got a few
that are starting to
breed.

In March the Book Fair took place in
honour of World Book Day. There
was a variety of books from horror
to fairy tales. The book fair started
during the morning period at 8:30, ending at 8:55. Never
fear it started again on Friday and again on Monday if you
were to miss out on any of the books advertised. There
was stationery for sale as well as books, for people who
enjoyed writing! To me and Taras surprise there were
books that were also targeting adults, for example, the
book, Jane Eyre was spotted in the lower section of
books in the category. In my opinion Jane Eyre is certain-
ly not for children - it is for women!

There were a lot of books but it was best to visit the
Book Fair at an earlier date, otherwise the books that
were there would have gone.

Book Week is a National celebration. We celebrated the
event in school and the theme was maths. Through read-
ing books we were also doing maths! Very clever! Yellow
class even did their class assembly based on their maths
book.

I recently finished reading the
Hobbit and it is great book. Writ-
ten by J.R.R Tolkien, it is one of
his finest works ever. The chap-
ters are excellent. They are full
of fancy words and it makes you
feel like you are in a magical and
beautiful Middle world. Without
any doubt, It is a timeless classic!

The Hobbit is a prelude to the famous and excel-
lent Lord of the Rings. Hobbits are miniature crea-
tures like elves. The Hobbits home world is called
the Middle-World. A hobbit called Bilbo Baggins

Felice Arena and Phil Kettle are the
authors who wrote the book Boyz Rule
Race Car Dreamers and many others.
The two main characters are called
Con and Josh. Theyre very funny and
are trouble makers. There are lots of
other books about Boyz Rule like: Bat-
tle of the Games and Halloween Gothcha!,

In Yabby Hunt, the two main charac-
ters are Nick and Matt. On a really hot
day, Nick and Matt go down to the lo-
cal dam to catch yabbies'. They man-
age to scoop up plenty of yabbies and
have some yabby tales of their own to
tell!

In Test Cricket, the two main charac-

the test match being held in their lo-

should that be canine!) fields like no

Review by: Ahlam

The book I am reviewing is called Witch & Wizard. I would recommend it to
anyone in Year 5 and above because it might be inappropriate for younger peo-
ple. Its by James Patterson, a brilliant author of many books such as: Fang,
Watch the Sky, Dont Blink, Honeymoon, Worst Case, Fourth Of July and many
more. In my opinion Witch & Wizard is probably the best one. It has a mixture
of romance, horror, adventure and comedy.

It is about the amazing adventure of Whit and Wisteria Allgood, a sister and
brother who have been ripped from their family in the middle of the night,
thrown into prison and accused of being a witch and wizard by the evil regime
The New Order. Of course, like anyone else, they think this is ridiculous but
they soon discover their mysterious powers. They have no idea how to control
them and they need help. Soon in the story they learn to control them.

Whit is still dreaming about his long ago girlfriend Celia who suddenly disap-
peared one day now he knows why. She was in the same situation as they are
but shes dead. Celia is a ghost who ends up taking him to her world called
Shadow Land. Whit and Wisty are both arranged to be executed when they are
18 - the problem is Whit has a month to live.

They are glad they are saved and have been returned
to somewhere called Freeland. They have been
brought to their HQ where they save thousands of
kids and they all live there. Wisty and Whit are de-
termined to find their parents but first they are on a
mission to save other kids who have been trapped in
prison. Their mission is successful but they dont just
free some children - they manage to free the whole
prison, thanks to Wisty who amazingly transformed
into a rat.

But its not over. The One Who Is The One [the man
in charge of The New Order] claims that he will be
back to kill them. This continues in the new book Witch & Wizard - The Gift
Out now!

There have recently been lots of cases
of slavery discovered in the Ivory Coast,
people have been found using children by
force to make some of the chocolate
that we eat. If you calculate, we spend
roughly 200 on buying chocolate per year and how
much thought do we give to where all this money really
goes? On CNN news there are sad videos showing chil-
dren from 10-15 years old working before knowing how
to read and write. They open the coco bean shells with
big, long knives that can be really harmful.

They get fed a limited amount of fruit and not food
that we have. They wear ripped clothes every day as
they work. If you really feel sorry for these children
- help them. HOW? If you go out and buy
chocolate, buy the chocolates with wrappers
that have this logo

This logo means that children are being protected from
this dangerous work. The chocolate that have a fair-
trade logo are the ones that are the best for you such
as:

Knowing that children are being stopped from harmful
things makes us feel satisfied. If you search for CNN
news chocolate slavery take a look at the videos!!!!

There is a new iPhone 4S out now and it is around 400! It has a
microphone in the screen and you can talk to it and it will do what
you say. There is a black and white version of it. You can even talk
to your friends or relatives and you will actually see them on your
screen - but only if they have an iPhone 4S. It also has a calendar
and a note book so you can put all your notes in it. There is an
alarm that wakes you up at whatever time you put it and there are
different tones for it. There are lots of games you can play.

There are also Blackberries and they range from 109 for a
Blackberry Curve 85200 to 350 for a Blackberry Torch 9780
and 550 for a Blackberry Bold 9900! Most people in London al-

Who are they? Oriana explains ...

Jehovahs Witness is a religion that doesnt celebrate
Christmas, Easter, birthdays, carnivals or New Year. Howev-
er, they do celebrate other occasions such as: parties, wed-
dings and anniversaries.

They believe in the God called Jehovah and the people that
preach his words are known as his witnesses because they
are reporting what he says and what is written in the bible.
They believe in what the bible really teaches and follow what
Jesus did and that is why they are also known as Christians
because Christians believe in Jesus so do Jehovah Witness-
es. They preach Gods word by going on the Ministry, which
means they knock on peoples doors and talk to people on the
pavement. Mathew 24:14 says All the news that God tells us
shall be preached in all the nations. So as I said earlier on,
they follow Jesus.

Did Jesus preach to ANY type of person?

Yes. For example, he didnt say No, I wont preach Gods
word to this man who is all scruffy. Jesus did what God told
him to do and after being baptized he went away to hear
what God wanted him to do and Jesus obeyed him.

A Jehovahs Witness in our school commented that, I like
being a Jehovahs Witness because I learn a lot and I be-
lieve it is true.

Easter is coming! If you are

This article will tell you everything about Easter.

This year, Easter is on Sunday 8
th
of April 2012.
Make sure you are ready to go out and have fun.
Easter is also one of the most important annual reli-
gious feasts in the Christian calendar year. Chris-
tians always celebrate Easter on Sundays and it is
often known as Easter Sunday. Easter is the day
that Christians celebrate the resurrection of the
Lord, Jesus Christ. Christians chose to celebrate
His resurrection because they believe that Jesus
was crucified, died and was raised from the dead.

Q: If Easter is a religious festival, why do people
give Easter Eggs?

A: People give Easter eggs
because they are celebrat-
ing new life.
