Benefits from using Sesam for jackets

New builds covering Manage existing entire life cycle re-analysis models Collapse analysis Requalification Modification work - all phases

MTO, deflection check, code check, fatigue

Understand models over time, Extreme conditions, produce and view results accidents, fire, explosion

Design of new parts Re-design of existing

Same model for all stages can be shared with other units like the floating department

Sacs and StruCad3D
- Structure, manually defined loads & load combinations
- Completed
Sacs example

- On-going tasks
- Tension/compression (Q2/2012) - Surface loads and temperature loads (Q4/2012) - Import of pile/soil data (Q4/2012)

StaadPro

Easy to verify and appreciate the model in GeniE

Graphical visualisation and easy to query object properties - Structure model, point masse and sets - Total mass and centre of gravity - Properties sections, materials & hydrocoefficients - Local co-ordinate systems beams and plates - Loads both manually applied and waves - Load combinations loads and scaling factors - Soil layers - Displacements, stresses, forces, deflections for single load-case(s) or envelope From reports - All above - Maximum wave shear and overturning moment - Load sums and reaction forces List of data that are not converted - Easy to find out what needs to be dealt with in a manual manner

Tools Verify structure

How to import a model from Sacs

The procedure today
Import structure (automatic) Import wave load data (automatic) Import load combinations (automatic) Add soil data Verify model with previous reports or model data Run a linear static analysis and verify selected key results (displacements, forces and stresses)

You can do it
Without training or assistance By reading our tutorial Learning from a course where the goal is to import 3 structures We can do it as a consulting service to you

Once the model is verified it can be used for all purposes in Sesam

Demo Import and verification

Import the structure, the wave loads and load combinations
- Tools Structure verify

Understand the structure

- Various check points like e.g. mass, centre of gravity, boundary conditions, colour coding, hydrodynamic properties

Verify the loads

- Basic load cases - Load combinations - Wave loads

Make reports Make pictures

Linear analysis (wave, pile/soil) Deflections, Stresses, Code-check, Fatigue, Earthquake

Linear static analysis main purpose

Deflection checking Code checking member, tubular joints and plates Fatigue

Linear static analysis deflections, stresses, forces

Deflection check according to AISC (or your own criteria) Stresses/Forces (vonMises, SIGxx, SIGyy, TAUxy, Nxx, Mxy.)

Linear static analysis plate stresses

VonMises plate stresses in wave load case (4,1)
- Direction 135 degrees, wave height 11.7m, wave period 10.6 sec

Automatic definition of default buckling lengths

Global settings apply to all members
- Can be imported via scripting from Sacs
Bm6224 The leg between two joints has three members. It will be necessary to define buckling lengths for each of these

Local settings to individual members

- Can be imported via scripting from Sacs
Bm6223

Bm1344

The leg between two joints has one member. The buckling length is the length between the joints often necessary to modify. The member has all the knowledge about the underlying FE model

Linear static analysis member code checking

Code checking of members, e.g. tower and flare-boom

Linear static analysis member code checking

Code checking of members, e.g. jacket
- Buckling lengths not adjusted hence results may not be real

Linear static analysis fatigue

Sesam supports 3 options
- Deterministic fatigue (regular waves, time domain wave load analysis) - More accurate wave loads (any theory and proper drag) - Simple and straight forward

- Stochastic fatigue (spectral wave load analysis) - Structural dynamics and better coverage of environmental conditions - Prior to fatigue analysis partial damage may be set

- Time domain fatigue (irregular waves, time domain wave load analysis) also known as Rainflow Counting Fatigue (RFC) - Wave loads to instantaneous free surface (also for irregular sea states) - Non-linear pile soil effects

Linear static analysis fatigue

Include a refined shell model (finite element model) in the global model for the purpose of computing stresses, SCFs for beam fatigue or direct shell fatigue

Load combination ST01 Use the GeniE SnackPack to auto convert from beam to shell
