Wind Power Technology (8216, 86618, 86630) Recent years have seen an ever-growing demand for clean (renewable)

sources of energy. Wind power is one of Earth's most available sources of renewable energy and is used worldwide to produce electricity. The Lab-Volt Wind Power Technology equipment is designed to introduce students to the small-scale production of electrical energy from wind power. The Wind Power Technology equipment mainly consists of the Wind Turbine Generator/Controller, Model 8216-0, and the Wind Turbine Demonstrator, Model 8216-D. By installing the Wind Turbine Generator/Controller into a Lab Volt EMS workstation and coupling it to a FourQuadrant Dynamometer/Power Supply (Model 8960) operating as a wind turbine rotor emulator, students can study the wind turbine operation and small-scale production of electrical energy in the same way as if wind were blowing onto the bladed rotor of the wind turbine, but without having to wait for wind to blow at the desired speed. All electrical connections to the Wind Turbine Generator/Controller are made using flexible, PVC-insulated leads terminated with 4 mm safety banana plugs. Two multimeters are required to perform electrical measurements. The Wind Turbine Demonstrator is an actual wind turbine mounted atop a mobile pole. Openings in the wind turbine nacelle allow students to observe the internal components (mainly the generator and controller). The Wind Turbine Generator/Controller mainly consists of the generator and controller of an actual small-scale wind turbine, mounted in an EMS full-size module. The module also includes auxiliary components (a threephase diode rectifier and a set of three power resistors) that can be used to apply a variable electric load to the generator. Color-coded, 4 mm safety banana jacks mounted on the front panel of the module provide access to the generator windings, controller input and output, diode rectifier, and power resistors.

Solar Thermal Energy Training System (46121)

The Lab-Volt 46121 Solar Thermal Energy Training System is a solar hot water heating system. The trainer includes a solar collector, circulation pumps, storage tank, heat exchanger, air separator, air handler, solar heating coil, automatic air vent, thermostat, and controller system with sensors. Students will be able to install system components, observe pressures, temperatures and flow rates. Students will setup various realistic operating environments such as radiant floor heating, passive and active solar water heating, space heating system, and hot water heat exchanger.
