PART IV ONLINE RESEARCH: DUE MONDAY (begin

1. Go to the NY Times 9/11 Victim Profiles: Portraits of Grief:

2. Read at least 7 stories. Be sure to scroll through the alphabet.
3. Choose 1 story to work with. Choose the one that speaks to you
most, that makes you feel some connection to the person--- that
resonates for you. [Resonate: to evoke images, connections,
emotions, memories.] Print out the article about that one
person.
4. Google the person you have chosen to learn about. What other
information can you find?
5. Choose or create a personal artifact that represents this person
and bring it to class on Monday. Remember, a personal artifact
is an object that represents a personit can represent a persons
personality or values. It can be a possessionsomething that
belonged to that person. It is an object that reveals something
about who the person is, what they cared about, it is a

PART V: IN CLASS ON MONDAY


Collaborative Group Project
1. Have each group member shares their story and artifact. Assign
someone in your group to watch the time and be sure this takes no
more than 10 minutes in total. About 2-3 minutes for each person in the
group.
2. Choose ONE person your group has learned about and create a
memorial for that person.
3. Your memorial must:

Be a visual representation of the person you have chosen: it must


have words and images.

Include an artifact that represents the personperhaps the


artifact is placed in front of the poster or attached to it.

Include the persons full name and where they were on Sept 11th.

Include details about the persons life and personality from the
article.

Hints: You may include quotes from the article. You may use
symbols, drawings, a poem. You may cut out pictures or photos
and glue them to your poster. You may bring any materials to
class that will help your group to construct this memorial.

THIS IS DUE AT THE END OF CLASS ON MONDAY. ON TUESDAY


EACH GROUP WILL PRESENT THEIR MEMORIAL. YOU MAY BE
PRESENTING TO THE 7TH GRADERS AS WELL. YOUR MEMORIAL

SHOULD BE DISPLAYED SOMEWHERE IN THE CLASSROOM AT THE


END OF THE DAY ON MONDAY.
This memorial is also your first project grade for this class. See
