My name is Max Routley and I am a cancer survivor. I am 11 years old and in Grade 5. In September 2008, I started getting cramps and I felt like I had the flu. After a week of not eating and being in constant pain, my parents took me to our local hospital. Later, at Childrens Hospital, doctors diagnosed me with Burkitts lymphoma, a very aggressive form of non-Hodgkins lymphoma, and I had an emergency surgery and started chemotherapy right away. The good news is my cancer is one of the more curable types. So although the treatment was intense, I was back to school by January 2009. I am currently three years in remission and I only have to see my doctor at Childrens every six months. I participated in ChildRun for the first time last year and am excited to be a part of it again because I want to help other kids with cancer. I hope that by raising money I can make their hospital stay easier and help find a cure so no other kids have to go through what I went through.
