Harassment Continued...
A Quick Refresher Course Just In Case You Forgot!
Its been a while since we talked about harassment, so how about a refresher course? The most important thing to remember is that unwelcome sexual harassing or offensive conduct is prohibited. This policy applies to students, faculty, staff, and others on or off University property. Remember, prohibited conduct includes but is not limited to: 1. Sexual flirtations, touching, advances, or propositions; 2. Sexually explicit language or gestures; 3. Sexually graphic or suggestive comments about an individuals dress or body; 4. Contributing to an offensive overall environment, including the use of vulgar or sexist language, the presence of sexually explicit photographs or other materials, and the telling of sexual or sexist jokes or stories. 5. Explicit or implicit threats or comments that an individual may be affected in a tangible way in exchange for engaging (or not engaging) in sexually-related conduct. If you believe that the actions or words of a member of the University community or at an experiential learning site constitute unwelcome harassment of you or another, you have a responsibility to immediately report the suspected harassment to either of the following administrators: Sue Heimann, Vice President for Student Affairs/ Dean of Students, Student Center, Ext. 5304 or John Brandon, Director, Human Resources 106 Founders Hall, Ext. 5034.

Level I and Level II Harassment

Knowing the difference between the two offenses
As stated above, harassment is prohibited whether it occurs on or off campus. As you could predict, harassment cases are rarely ever the same. Depending on the case itself, the form of harassment could either be charged as a Level I (the highest form) or a Level II (a step lower than a level I) offence depending on multiple factors. As you could have guessed, sexual violence is the most extreme form of sexual harassment. When it comes to deciding whether a harassment case should be considered a Level I or II offense, the board looks at different factors of the case at hand: 1) Severity of this issue; meaning how sever the act truly was. For example, saying that someone looks nice today is completely different than saying they look nice and then asking for sexual favors. 2) Persistence; meaning how often an act occurs. For example, the first time someones asks you out to dinner may be harmless, but if you have asked them to stop and they continues, then it gets tricky. 3) Touching; no matter the case, when touching is involved, it is automatically considered a Level I offense.

Question of the week:

If you had to do community service, where would you go to complete it?
I would volunteer at Hospice because I am interested in working with individuals who need counseling during the hardest part of their life/death. I could educate others about the knowledge I have gained, and I would feel as if I am helping those who need help the most.

I would go to the animal shelter. A lot of animals over there are without homes, never receiving any attention and its a sad thing. Its comparable to disowning a child. Anthony Wasem, Junior Maureen Elizabeth, Senior
