Milton, and chemist Joseph Priestley declared that the teaching of the inherent immortality of the soul was false. After four years Grew and several others withdrew from the church. In later years Grew published writings in which he used the bible to refute the trinity, hellfire, and the inherent immortality of the soul for the wicked. At age 25 Charles possessed $300,000. the equivalent of $ 7 million today. Yet, his search for truth continued.
