Goodwill IndustriesSuncoast, Inc.

has responded to a proposal released by Career Central that seeks to provide Summer Youth services for local youth. In our response, we have proposed to offer 10th graders the opportunity to enroll in a Summer Youth program that is experiential in nature and designed to expose youth to STEM related technologies. Four industry clusters are being targeted (see highlighted list below) wherein Goodwill is seeking contingency proposals from district instructors who are interested in teaching a week long class (30 hrs.) While maintaining focus on the industry cluster, proposals will target one of the key niches of each cluster. Goodwill will select four proposals, one for each cluster, and the four classes will run consecutively thereby exposing each enrolled youth to all four clusters. It is anticipated class size will include 15 students thus supplies and materials should be calculated accordingly. In constructing the proposal, instructors should submit an all inclusive budget not to exceed $2,500.00 per class which provides for instructor wages, materials and supplies and the cost of at least one field trip/industry tour. Further, proposals should reflect experiential, hands-on learning for at least 60 per cent of class time. i) Applied Medicine and Human Performance (1) Senior Health & Wellness (2) Human Performance (3) Clinical Trials & Destination Medicine (4) Medical Industry Instruments & Devices (5) Health Information Technology & Bioinformatics ii) High Tech Electronics and Instruments (1) Avionics / Aviation Electronics Manufacturing (2) Marine Instruments, Sensors, Remote Monitors, & Optics Manufacturing (3) Medical Instruments & Medical Device Manufacturing iii)Business, Financial & Data Services (1) Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) & Shared Services (2) Financial Transactions Processing (3) Florida Data Centers, Disaster Recovery, & Data Management Industry (4) Health Information Technology & Bioinformatics iv)Marine and Environmental Activities (1) Aquaculture Industry (2) Biofuels / Algae (3) Energy Efficiency & Conservation (4) Marine Instruments, Sensors, Remote Monitors, & Optics

The goal of the Summer Youth program is twofold. One, expose youth to the targeted clusters and two, through this exposure, motivate youth to want to enroll in a career academy upon returning to school. As Goodwill has not yet received a contract from Career Central for the Summer Youth program, nor has Goodwill yet contracted with the District School Board, it must be noted that the above proposed STEM related experiential classes are contingent upon both events occurring. However, Goodwill feels confident in moving forward at this time as the program is slated to begin June 18, 2012 and instructor proposals will need to be reviewed and selected. As such, instructor proposals will be due by 3:00pm May 25, 2012. Proposals may by emailed or faxed to Garry Burlingame, Program Manager, Goodwill Industries Suncoast Inc. at gburlingame@careercentral.jobs. Fax number 727.484.3394. This contingency proposal does not commit or obligate Goodwill Industries Suncoast, Inc. to award a contract or to pay for any costs incurred in the preparation of a proposed training class.
