Introduction of Fertilizer Industry in India

Agriculture the backbone of Indian Economy still holds its relative importance for more than a billion peoples. The Government of India from time to time has taken considerable steps for the upliftment of Agriculture Sector. Here we have analyzed the performance of Fertilizer Industry being one of the vital parts in agricultural production and Government's policy initiatives for the same. Fertilizer in the agricultural process is an important area of concern. Fertilizer industry in India has succeeded in meeting the demand of all chemical fertilizers in the recent years. The Fertilizer Industry in India started its first manufacturing unit of Single Super Phosphate (SSP) in Ranipet near Chennai with a capacity of 6000 MT a year. India's green revolution in late sixties gave a positive boost to the sector. The sector experienced a faster growth rate and presently India is the third largest fertilizer producer in the world. (FACT) NATIONAL FERTILIZERS LIMITED (NFL) LIBERTY PHOSPHATES LIMITED Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited, also known as IFFCO, is the worlds largest fertiliser cooperative federation based in India which is registered as a Multistate Cooperative Society. IFFCO has 40,000 member cooperatives. IFFCO has been ranked#37 in top companies in India in2011 by Fortune India 500 list. Rashtriya Chemicals & Fertilizers Ltd. (RCF) is a PSU (Public Sector Undertaking) in India under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India based inMumbai[2]. RCF is one of the leading producers offertilizers in India and is a Miniratna company, a status awarded by the Government of India. Fertilisers and Chemicals Travancore (or FACT), is a fertiliser and chemical manufacturing company in Kochi, Kerala, India. It is one of the largest chemical manufacturing facilities in Kerala and is also 14001 certified. The company has 3 production units - Udyogamandal Division (UD), Cochin Division (CD) and Petrochemical Division (PD).The Caprolactam plant was commissioned in 1990. Main products of the company are Factomfos, Ultraphos, Ammonium Sulphate, Ammonium Phosphate, Caprolactum, Sulphuric Acid, Ammonia and other complex fertilizers. Gypsum, Nitric acid and Soda ash are major by-products. National Fertilizers Limited (NFL) is a major Indian producer of inorganic and organic fertilizers and industrial chemicals. Established in 1974, it operates 5 major plants across India. Liberty Phosphates Limited "Liberty" took birth in 1976 and carried out expansion from time to time to accelerate its capacity and to cope up with the increasing demand. Now the Group is having manufacturing capacity of 8,26,000 MTS. per annum of SSP Fertilizer, 1,65,000 MT per annum of NPK and 5000 MT of Magnesium Sulphate, claiming to be one of the major SSP manufacturing company in the country known as LIBERTY PHOSPHATE LIMITED. The Group Company has 6 units situated at different parts of the country. Achieving self-sufficiency in farming, food grain production is the major premise of Fertilizer Industry in India.
