Intent of ACC.1
Matching patient needs with the health care organizations mission and resources depends on obtaining information on the patients needs and condition through screening, usually at the point of first contact. The screening may be through triage criteria, visual evaluation, a physical examination, or the results of previously conducted physical, psychological, clinical laboratory, or diagnostic imaging evaluations. The screening can occur at a referring source, during emergency transport, or when the patient arrives at the organization. It is important that decisions to treat, to transfer, or to refer are made only after the results of screening evaluations are available. Only those patients for whom the organization has the clinical capability to provide the needed services, consistent with its mission, are considered for inpatient admission or registered for outpatient services. When the organization requires particular screening tests or evaluations prior to admission or registration, this is stated in a written policy. (Also see AOP.1, intent statement)
1. Screening is initiated at the point of first contact within or outside the organization. 2. Based on the results of screening, it is determined if the needs of the patient match the organizations mission and resources. (Also see GLD.3.2, ME 2) 3. Patients are accepted only if the organization can provide the necessary services and the appropriate outpatient or inpatient setting for care. 4. There is a process to provide the results of diagnostic tests to those responsible

JCIs 2011 International Practica make accreditation preparation as simple as possible by explaining JCIs methods and standards while also highlighting the best practices and processes needed to achieve accreditation success. Most importantly, the practicum promotes survey success by inviting participants to observe a simulated JCI tracer in a local health care organization. JCI practica can be any excellent resource for any health care organization for the following reasons: Those new to the accreditation process will benefit from the clear explanation of the preparation required to succeed on the first survey. For those familiar with the accreditation process, the JCI practicum discusses the newest and most frequently cited JCI standards. All participants will benefit from the deep explanation of JCIs methods and processes, which will allow organizations to serve their patents and maintain continuous standards compliance more effectively and efficiently.
Two 2011 International Practica on Quality Improvement and Accreditation are scheduled in Dubai, UAE, and the Republic of Korea.
For more information or to make a reservation for either practicum, go to the JCI Conference and Seminars Web site at http://www.jointcommissioninternational.org/Conferences-and-Seminars/ or contact us at JCIConsulting@jcrinc.com.
