Proposed Thermal Power Projects in India 2011

Comprehensive Data Points
Fuel Type & Source Status Land Acquisition Status Proposed Investment Tentative Year of Commissioning Status of Key Regulatory & Environmental Clearance Details of Developer/Promoter Key Concerns Enclosing Project The acceleration in economic growth to 9 to 10% in the XII Plan would require a quantum jump in investment for expanding infrastructure network in the country from $ 500 billion in the XI Plan to about $1 trillion in the XII Plan. Power sector alone would require an investment of about $ 300 billion for provision of adequate and reliable supply of power at reasonable prices to all segments of Indian society. It is true that such voluminous investments cannot be mobilized by the public sector alone, and private participation is critical to supplement the efforts of states instrumentalities in building power generation infrastructure. A strong and coherent, legal, regulatory policy framework for attracting private investment, domestic as well as foreign, in generation of power is put in place. The investor now has more options in regards to fuel, equipment, power sale, location and financing mode. As a result, private sector investment in power sector has shown a rising trend. This is reflected in the fact that the share of private sector in the total installed power generation capacity has gone up from 4% in 1990 to 22% in 2011. In the XI Plan, private sector contribution in incremental capacity addition is likely to go up further to nearly 30% and the same will nearly double in the XII Plan. A capacity of 120 GW is under construction for the benefit of XII Plan and an additional 350 GW is proposed by diverse developers for the forthcoming FYPs. As these proposed capacities are currently in the initial phases of development, they hold an immense business potential to the different stakeholders in the electricity supply chain.

Electricity Demand Supply Forecasting (BU)

Continuing Power Reforms
It has been observed that on a 20 year rolling period, the elasticity gradually decreased from about 1.4 in 2000-01 to around 1 during 2007-08 till 2009-10. Therefore, lower elasticity of 0.9 is adopted for projecting demand.

Infraline Energy through this report identifies all the proposed thermal IPPs all over India, developed by different central, state and private sector players. All such identified projects are profiled and showcased. A typical project profile gives basic information about the promoter, business model, power sale structure, financing mode, proposed technology, equipments planned, source of fuel and its type, and many other project related information. The profiles unfold the current investment status, progress of regulatory clearances, discussions with government agencies, future development plans, and other associated advancements. The report also categorises these proposed projects state wise, ownership wise, promoter wise, fuel wise, technology wise, power-sale wise, etc. for macro-level business decisions. The report would serve as an information advantage to tap the future opportunities. Prospective business entities can formulate their plans, device strategies and take pro-active measures to position well in the market. Equipment manufacturers, EPC companies, Power traders, Coal traders, Management & technical service firms, and other allied service entities can aim for newer collaboration, figure potential tie-ups, identify potential developers for fresh orders/ contracts, and expand their network to the looming power hubs.
