Windows and Mac Printer Setup Guide

This guide details how to set up a Windows PC from Windows 95 to Windows Vista Business along with how to set up an Apple Mac from OS9.2 to OS10.4 This guide will take you through how to set up: An IP-P2P port on Windows 95, 98 & ME An LPR and Standard TCP/IP port on Windows NT4 2000, XP, 2003 & Vista Business Appletalk on Mac OS9.2 IP printing on Mac OS10.3.9 & 10.4.10 Port Names

Windows 95, 98 & ME using the IPP2P Utility


1) First, download the IPP2P utility from the Konica Minolta website www.konicaminolta.eu You will need to click on the Support tab, then Business Solutions and then choose Application Programs and Network Utilities. When you are presented with three drop down boxes, choose Windows 95 and NT IP Peer-to-Peer Printing from the first drop down box, then your Windows operating system and finally English UK. Click Search. 2) You will then be presented with the IPP2P utility. To download it, click on Read Comment 3) Click on the option highlighted by the red arrow below

4) Agree to the licence agreement and save the file to the desktop of the PC 5) Close down Internet Explorer 6) Double click on the file you have downloaded which should be on the desktop and a WinZip window will pop up 2 Created by Stacey Hunt Konica Minolta Hotline Support (UK)

7) This WinZip window will most likely be in German. Click on the button indicated below with the red arrow as this means, Browse

8) Browse to the desktop and then place your curser in the field indicated below and press End on the keyboard.

9) At the end of the path, type \IPP2P, so your file path should now look like:

10) Click Unzip and you will get a message saying in German, 13 files unzipped successfully. Click on Schlieen to close WinZip. On the desktop, you will now have a folder called IPP2P. 3 Created by Stacey Hunt Konica Minolta Hotline Support (UK)

11) In the IPP2P utility you will have a SETUP.EXE file. Double click this file and follow the on screen instructions to install the utility. 12) Once installed, it will appear in the programs list under IP-P2P. The first box you will see is:

13) Click on Printers. and you will see the following box. Enter in the IP address, Name and Description and click Add as I have done. Make sure that under Flags it says SMP. If it does not, click on Select and Permanent.

14) Then click OK.

You now need to set up the printer

7) Click Next 8) You will then be prompted for the port. The port will appear in the list as whatever you called it in the Description field in step 13 on page 4.

9) Click Next and the following box will appear. Select/change as appropriate

10) When asked if you would like to print a test page, select No and Finish the wizard. You will then need to configure the driver with the correct finisher, drawer base etc under Properties. 6 Created by Stacey Hunt Konica Minolta Hotline Support (UK)

Windows 2000, XP & 2003 Standard TCP/IP Port


Before you start, you need to have the driver to hand and know the IP address of the printer. 1) Windows 2000 Click on Start\Settings\Printers Windows XP & 2003 Click on either Start\Settings\Printers & Faxes Or Start\Control Panel\Printers & Faxes 2) Click on Add Printer 3) Click Next to the first screen and then choose a Local Printer attached to this Computer. Make sure Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer is UNTICKED

5) Select Create a new port and choose Standard TCP/IP Port

6) Click Next and a new wizard will start up

8) Type in the IP address of the printer in the top box and click Next

9) Choose Custom and click on Settings

10) Choose LPR and type in the queue name which is relevant to the printer you are installing. Please refer to PAGE 31 & 32 for list of QUEUE NAMES. Make sure you put a tick in LPR Byte Counting Enabled

11) Click OK and Finish the Standard TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard. 12) You will then be prompted for the driver. Click on Have Disk and browse to wherever the driver files are located. Once the correct driver files have been selected and youve clicked Next, the following screen will appear confirming the printer selection.

13) Rename the printer and set as the default printer if you wish. Then press Next

14) From this next screen, you can share the printer from your computer (or server). Please note that if you choose to share the printer from a particular PC, that PC must always be switched on. Whatever you use for the Share Name, will be the name of the printer that you connect to through either Network Neighbourhood/My Network Places or the Add Printer Wizard/Network printer.

16) You then need to configure the driver. To do this, right click on the new printer icon in the Printers Folder and go into the properties. Depending on the driver you have set up, you will either see an Options, Device Options, Settings, Device Option Settings, Configuration etc tab. On most of the newer machines, and the Fierys, you can input the IP address of the printer and click either Gather Option Information or Update. If you dont have these options, you will need to configure the driver manually. You also need to make sure the paper size is set to A4. On Windows 2000, XP & 2003, click on the Advanced tab under the Properties and then Printing Defaults. After you have made sure/set the paper to A4 under here, do the same under Printing Preferences.

Windows NT4 does not have the option of selecting a Standard TCP/IP Port. You can only select an LPR Port. An LPR port only requires the IP address of the printer and the Queue/Port Name.

Windows Vista Business Standard TCP/IP Port


Before you start, you need to have the driver to hand and know the IP address of the printer. If you download the driver from www.konicaminolta.eu, we recommend that you save the driver to your desktop and then extract the files to a folder on your desktop. 1) Click on either: or: Start\Control Panel\Printers & Faxes Start\Settings\Printers & Faxes

2) Click on Add a Printer

3) This guide describes how to add a printer directly to your computer across a network without going through a server. With this in mind, select Add a local printer and click Next

4) Drop down the box to Create a new port, and choose Standard TCP/IP Port

5) From the top box of this next screen, choose Device Type: TCP/IP Device. Then enter the IP address of the Konica Minolta device. Click Next

6) On the screen below, choose Custom and Settings

7) Once you have clicked on Settings Change the Protocol to LPR. Enter the Queue Name appropriate to your Konica Minolta device and tick LPR Byte Counting Enabled. See pages 31 & 32 for a list of queue names.

8) Click OK and then Next 9) You will now be asked for the printer driver. Click on Have Disk

10) The following box will appear. Click Browse

11) Navigate to the location of the driver on your computer

14) Choose whether of not the Konica Minolta device is to be set as the default printer and click Next.

15) The driver will then begin to install. When asked if you want to Share the Printer, unless you are setting the printer up on a server or want people to print through your computer, you need to leave the driver set to Do not share this printer. Click Next.

16) You have now completed the Add Printer Wizard. Click Finish

17) You now need to configure the machine with any additional options you have attached to the machine. To do this, right click on the printer and select Properties. You should then have an Options or Configure tab. It very much depends on which driver you are installing as to where the additional options are located. Whichever driver, it should be under either Properties or Printing Preferences. Once you are done, click Apply and OK.

Setting Up a Printer on Mac OS9.2 AppleTalk must be enabled on the Konica Minolta Printer
1) Copy the PPD to: System Folder\Extensions\Printer Descriptions 2) Click on the Apple Menu in the top left hand corner of the screen 3) Click on Chooser 4) Click on Adobe PS 5) Select the printer from the list on the right 6) Click Create and when prompted, choose the PPD from the folder above 7) Click on Configure and add any installable features you have on your Konica Minolta machine. 8) Click OK and then OK again Your printer is now installed.

Setting Up a Printer On Mac OSX 10.3


Apple Macs are designed to only use the PPD file from the postscript printer driver. In order to set the printer up, copy the PPD into the following folder using the path as described below: Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources/en.lproj 1. Once you have done this, go to the Print Centre and click on Add. 2. Choose IP PRINTING from the first drop down box (You can also select AppleTalk) 3. Input the IP ADDRESS (If using AppleTalk, select your printer. If you get the option of print, hold or direct, choose print) 4. Input the queue name: For a list of queue names, please refer to page 31 & 32 of this booklet. (Not needed if using AppleTalk) 5. Drop down the box: PRINTER MODEL and select OTHER 6. Search for the PPD using the path above and select the PPD that you copied into the folder above earlier. 7. Next, make sure that the new printer is highlighted and go to PRINTER on the top toolbar. 8. Then click on SHOW INFO and change Name & Location to INSTALLABLE OPTIONS. 9. Select the finisher and drawer base that you have with your machine (if applicable). 10) Click on Apply Changes. (It may not look like anything has happened when you click on this button as the screen does not change, but the settings have been saved) The printer is then installed and ready for use.

Most of the new OSX10.3/10.4 drivers now have an installer file, which can be run from the Mac. This installer file puts the PPD into the above folder for you. It does not set up the printer. You have to do this manually by following the steps above.

Setting Up a Printer On Mac OSX 10.4


In order to set the printer up, copy the PPD into the following folder using the path as described below:

Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources/en.lproj
Most of the new OSX10.4 drivers now have an installer file, which can be run from the Mac. This installer file puts the PPD into the above folder for you. It does not set up the printer. You have to do this manually by following the steps below.

Installing an IP Printer (Recommended)


1) To install the printer, click on the blue Apple in the top left hand corner of the screen and choose System Preferences

2) Click on Print & Fax

3) The print dialog box will pop up. Click on the + sign and make sure IP Printer is selected in the top toolbar of the next screen that opens.

4) The Protocol must be set to Line Printer Daemon LPD. Enter the IP address of the printer and the queue name. For a list of queue names, please refer to page 31 & 32 of this guide.

5) Next click on Print Using and choose Other. Browse to the en.lproj folder as shown below to locate the PPD file for the Konica Minolta printer. On some of the latest Konica Minolta machines (C451, C550, C650, C203, C253, C353) the PDD will automatically be located for you).

6) Your print set up dialog box will now look like the one below. Once you have all the settings in place, click Add

7) A window will now pop up asking you to add any additional options you may have installed on the machine. Install the drawer base and finisher etc. that are attached to the machine. These settings are dependant on the options you have purchased with the machine and will differ from those shown below.

Installing an AppleTalk/IP Printer


In order to set the printer up, copy the PPD into the following folder using the path as described below:

Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources/en.lproj
Most of the new OSX10.4 drivers now have an installer file, which can be run from the Mac. This installer file puts the PPD into the above folder for you. It does not set up the printer. 5) Highlight your chosen printer as in step 4 and click on the Print Using drop down box. Select Other. 6) Browse to the en.lproj folder as shown below to locate the PPD file for the Konica Minolta printer. On some of the latest Konica Minolta machines (C451, C550, C650, C203, C253, C353) the PDD will automatically be located for you).
