AGAINST Beauty Contest neither degrade nor upgrade thw womanhood.

What they do they do professionally and they dont stand for any community here meaninh woman community. Its all the Money game and not an event of alacrity. Why we consider itto be good or bad its neutral. It makes no sense because beauty contests winner dont do anything for the society except for the compulsory one year world tour that too by the agency in the name of social service after that they are girl next door or celebrity. Those women who admires it , please be careful beuty does not mean showing off or it cant ever be judged by few set questions in an emotionally confident way. Its a gift that is independent of figure or sex appeal and can be never judged by these contests. Beauty is in the deeds and at the heart not in these contests that can be judged. In my view, beauty contest is not necessary, since the concept of beuty is different in each one's mind. It actually a body explore show. It will degrade the womanhood. Women should be raised by showing their presence in all fields, expressing their attitudes freely etc.. But, not showing their nudity by wearing short dresses. There are many ways for expressing their talents. Why can't we chose it? Beauty contests doesnot degrade women if some changes are made in it. In beauty contest there are several rounds which tests whether that girl is having good knowledge, internal beauty (which mean whether she is with kind heart) and ofcourse others categories too... But some rounds in beauty contest must be changed . And in beauty contests dressing code must be changed. If an Indian women is participating in that beauty contest then she must be allowed to wear sary which reflects our Indian culture. Our dressing must reflect our culture . So that other countries can understand what our culture is. And if these changes are made then beauty contest willnot degrade womenhood. Certainly yes! Beauty contests are degrading womanhood. According to my point of view there is no point in conducting these beauty contests. You cannot judge a woman by the way she dresses and by the way she answers certain questions in front of everyone. It is how she carries herself each and everyday to everyone. Only 10 to 15 people participate in that and invariably all are models. Aiswarya rai bachan would certainly not be a good example to quote. According to John Keats, 'a thing of beauty is a joy forever'. So, women should try to look beautiful but at the same time should not embarrass the womanhood in any way. We can stand as a unique person in this world by helping the needy, serving our society, raising our voice over social evils such as discrimination of caste, religion, region. So i think exposing our beauty over outside world is unnecessary.

Persons must be honoured only for their internal beauty..But not for their external appearance. Pageants usually require contestants to have a platform, which is basically a critical issue, such as cancer awareness or the benefits of mentoring, that she wishes to promote and inform others about. Community service is also a major aspect of todays pageants. Scholarships are awarded specifically to those women who show an exemplary effort in volunteering. Phyllis George, the former First Lady of Kentucky, was Miss America 1971. She has heard a lot of criticism of pageants, but she praises them for building self confidence. She says there is positive self-esteem in being able to walk on a stage in front of millions of TV viewers in a swimsuit and evening gown. You cant be shy and you have to think on your feet at numerous public events. Miss America is great training for so many careers. The most controversial activity is the swimsuit competition, which is supposed to be about fitness, poise and confidence. If you have the ability to stay poised in a swimsuit in front of America, you have the confidence to do anything! Pageants are criticized because they are not considered politically correct. However, that does not repeal the law of supply and demand. If there is a supply of attractive, intelligent, talented young women willing to participate in such events and a public demand for such events to be seen, then they will continue. Naysayers may tune them out. As we all know, life is not fair. Our society is visual and beautiful people do have a significant advantage. They receive more attention and opportunities. They also have more self confidence and better social skills. This has been scientifically proven numerous times, even in studies involving babies. They were shown photos of traditionally attractive and average individuals. The beautiful people won every time. The same photos were then shown to adults who were asked to rate several factors about the person such as politeness, intelligence, motivation, etc. The attractive people received far better scores. Other studies have revealed that attractive children tend to get better grades in school because they receive more attention from their teachers. In the job market, many sales oriented positions are given to beautiful people. Supermodel Tyra Banks tried to demonstrate this double standard when she dressed up in fat suit. Beauty Competitions, otherwise know as Beauty Contests or Beauty Pageants degrade women to mere objects. Such a competition is the exploitation of women by men and other women. A competition based on skill or ability is all right. For example if eight persons were to run in a race, only one will win. The outcome of such a race is clear. There is no doubt as to who ran faster. So is the case with a chess competition. Someone has to win, or at least draw with someone else. There is no need for anyone to judge such competitions. All they have to do is to watch and the result presents itself. Perhaps to ensure fairplay a referee or an umpire can oversee the proceedings.

In the case of a beauty competition, no skill or ability is involved. Beauty is supposed to be the criteria for such a competition. The question is: how can beauty be competed? Beauty is a quality that is in the one who is seeing what he or she might say to be beautiful. A woman considered to be beautiful by one person may not be so to another. One man may like a woman with an hour-glass figure. Another may like a plump woman. One may find long hair beautiful while another may liken long hair to that of an ugly witch. Beauty is purely subjective. No two persons can agree on what beauty is. Yet there are 'beauty' competitions. This is ridiculous. How can a group of pompous men and women watch the parade of a group of half-naked girls pronounce one to be the most beautiful? These young mostly nave girls, because they cannot show any skill or ability, have to flaunt their bodies in public in front of an audience of lusty and leering old men. It is degrading to see these young girls with perpetual smiles pouting their lips and wiggling their bottoms just to gain some marks from some pretentious judges. The winner gets to wear a crown and 'reign' for a year. The reign is actually cheap promotion for the company that sponsors her. However, in her ignorance, the beauty queen sees fit to replace her with some other more beautiful nave creature. Every woman is beautiful, if she can just be herself. The moment she flaunts herself, she becomes an object to be degraded and exploited by those who will cash in or her assets. This private beautiful woman then becomes public property, an exploited sex-object - for a year. Is beauty not enduring thing? Or does it lasts only a year? Perhaps women will realize her own beauty and not have to exhibit it in front of dirty old men pretending to be appreciative. They then do have to take part in 'beauty' competitions. Their own beauty speaks for themselves. Yes. They reinforce a gender stereotype that woman have little value outside of attracting men. Sure they have a talent contest and/or a speech, but the real action comes with the swimsuits. Can you think of any contest of value that is solved with near nudity? At their heart most pageants call themselves scholarship programs. Somehow, the prospect of humbling oneself in front of a crowd is more palatable when the payoff is a prize tied to college enrollment. But, where is the college that requires semi-nude photographs before it will consider you for admission? I agree with the statement that beauty contests are degrading. They degrade women to mere objects. The sponsors exploit women by requiring them to parade in swimsuits or even lingerie. They are judged mainly on their physical appearance rather than on any other qualities they may possess. When the women parade themselves on stage, the judges will look at a number of things, but the most important criteria will probably be poise. To achieve proper poise, a woman's

body should be well proportioned - having a neck proportionate to her height, lanky legs and so on. This process of evaluating poise can be compared to dog shows where golden retrievers of the wrong bodily proportions are kicked out of the competition. I feel judging women primarily on their looks degrade womanhood. Moreover, beauty contests project an unrealistically thin image of the ideal woman in the eyes of the public. As it is, we are already bombarded with such silly standards by the mass media. Do we really need a beauty pageant to further aggravate the situation? A John Hopkins study has shown that more than half of the Miss America pageant winners are underweight, with a Body Mass Index of about 18.5, well below the normal BMI of 20 -25. Insecure women who watch the pageants are bound to develop a false body image and may even become anorexic or even bulimic just to look like beauty queens. Being a Muslim, I feel beauty contests violate some religious or cultural practices. I consider western style beauty contests as immoral, because the female participants are typically not dressed modestly. This really degrades women in the eyes of a conservative society. Lastly, when the winner wears a crown and reigns for a year, she is actually being exploited to do cheap promotions for the sponsors who make use of her to promote their products until they see it fit to replace her with some other beauties. This is cold and mercenary. For all the reasons given, I find beauty contests degrading to women. Every woman is beautiful in her own right. They do not have to take part in beauty contests to make others appreciate them and tell them that they are beautiful by other people's standards.

The Beauty contests degrades woman because it tends to portray women as materialistic objects. Appreciating beauty and respecting women is good but the way it is projected in the Miss World contest is wrong and unethical.
