OBJECTIVES:
At the end of this training, you will have a clear understanding of :

Basic Fire Science Classification of fires and fire extinguishers How to use fire extinguisher and other fire fighting equipments What to do in case of fire Emergency Evacuation Procedure

What is Safety?

Free from accidents. Free from hazard or preventing injury or loss.

What is Hazard?

A situation or occurrence that if not removed or have been compromised, can lead to danger or is life threatening.

What is Risk?

Probability or likelihood of the hazard actually causing injury or damage.

Classification of Fires

Ordinary Combustible Materials: Wood, Paper, Linen, Plastic, etc. Flammable Liquids: Diesel, Paint, Grease, Oil, Gasoline, etc. Live Electrical: Malfunctioning electrical equipments, burnt motors, control panels, power outlets .

WHAT TO DO IN CASE OF FIRE


Remember the word F I R E for an effective response.

DO NOT PANIC Stay Calm!

F ~ Find - (Should you discover a fire) I ~ Inform - (Raise the alarm) Pull manual station nearest to you or: Call emergency number 100, Give your name, department and location of fire.

R ~ Rescue - ( If it is safe to do so ) E ~ Extinguish - ( If it is safe to do so )


Evacuate - ( If the fire is out of control, evacuate to the assembly point (DO NOT USE LIFTS )

If you encounter smoke, find another exit. If you must exit through the smoke, stay low to the ground and crawl on your hands and knees.

Other Fire Fighting Equipments:


Fire Alarm System / smoke and heat detectors Automatic Sprinkler and Fire Hose Reel System Danger: Never use hose reel near live electrics. Kitchen Hood Fire Suppression (Ansul) commonly use on deep fat cooking and oil fires. FM200 in Main Computer Room & Main Switch Room Fire blankets in the kitchens.

ANSUL SYSTEM

HEAT & SMOKE DETECTORS


Heat and smoke detectors are used to raise the alarm at an early stage of a fire situation. It sends message to the fire panel.

BREAK GLASS CALL POINT

Whenever you see a fire, activate the pull station nearest to you.

FIRE BLANKET

Fire blankets are used to extinguish hot oil or deep pan fire in the kitchen. It can also be used to roll and laid down a person whose clothing catch fire. When using, hold the blanket to protect your face and body from heat.

How to use fire extinguisher


Remember the word P A S S

P Pull the safety pin A - Aim the nozzle at the base of the fire.

S Squeeze the handle

S Sweep from side to side

NOTE: When combating a fire, your back must be always towards the fire exit.

What does E.R.T. means ?


Emergency Response Team
is an inhouse organized team ready to response in the event of any emergencies. Members consist of :

Fire Life Safety Managers Duty Managers Security Supervisors Duty Engineers All Engineering Staff Housekeeping Service Leaders

Evacuation
Where is the nearest fire exit ? LOST ? Oh !!! No!!!

PROCEDURE on Partial / General Evacuation On receiving evacuation order:


Switch off

computers, lights and gas supplies in the kitchens. calm and be alert. DO NOT PANIC.

Stay

Check area of

responsibility i.e. rooms, toilets, bathrooms and other facilities if there are possible trapped victims. If the area is clear close the door and put ALL CLEAR SIGN.

Assist guests towards the exit doors and maintain orderly evacuation. Remain calm. Departmental Secretaries bring duty roster / time sheets and proceed to the assembly point area.

Guests head count to be checked by the Front Office Manager Employees head count to be checked by the Director of HR

CODE OF SAFETY

If you see a fire, raise the alarm by pulling the manual alarm nearest to you, before attempting to put-out the fire.
In case of fire, DO NOT USE THE LIFT. Use the emergency staircase.

Always SAVE LIFE FIRST, whether your own or others.


DO NOT PANIC! Panic is a killer.

When an area is filled with smoke, stay low in a crawling position to prevent smoke inhalation. Fresh air is normally close to the floor.

Who is responsible for SAFETY?
