ISBE Standards 19. A. 1 Demonstrate control when performing fundamental locomotor, non-locomotor, and manipulative skills. 19. B. 1 Understand spatial awareness and relationships to objects and people. (3 min) Instant Activity: Football Tag Description and Management: Select 2 students to be taggers. Select 2 more students to start the game carrying a football. Taggers will attempt to tag other students (the rest of the students without footballs). If tagged, students must freeze and place their hands in the hand-off position (in front of stomach with palm-up on the bottom and palm-down on the top). Those with footballs will hand-off (gently place in between hands and against stomach) to those that are frozen to get them back in play. When free they will hold ball correctly and move to find another student who is frozen and hand-off to them. Change positions often. (1-2 min) Set Induction: We will remind the students about throwing and catching. (They did throwing when we observed.) We will ask them if they can name any type of throws. We will then explain to them we will teach four basic types of throws, and how to catch to that specific throw. (4-6min) Activity 1: Throwing at The HOOPS: Description and Management: We will demonstrate how to throw the football. We will tell them to hold the football like a telephone (cue: the phones), step with the opposite foot and throw the ball to their partners (cue: for you). The students will take turns with their partners throwing the football inside the hoop. After about three minutes we will tell the students to now try to only hit bulls eye inside the hoop, which one of us will go around and quickly tape to the wall. They will be told to take four to five steps backwards away from the hoop beyond the floor tapeline, they can move back with time if they want. The students will then choose a partner when the teachers count down from 5. We will say the taller partner gets a football while the other partner picks a hoop on the wall. This activity emphasizes accuracy and aim. CUES: the phones, step, for you (8-9 min) Activity 2: Card Sharks Basketball Passing: Description and Management: The students will be asked to remember their partners and return the balls to the stage area. Then we will gather the students and introduce the chest pass, over the head pass, and the bounce pass. Each pass we will demonstrate using cues to help the students remember. For a chest pass we will tell the students to step, extend; step with there leading foot and extend with both arms point to your partner chest. For over head pass we will demonstrate by telling the students to step, launch; step with their leading foot and make a over the head launching motion to their partner. Finally with a bounce pass we will demonstrate by telling the students to step, push; step with their leading foot and pushing the ball to the ground half way between them and their partner. After the students understand the different throws we will explain the activity. Each teacher will have a deck of cards. The cards will be three different colors representing the three different passes/throws. Each card will have a number on it representing how many passes/throws each couple needs to complete. After the student finishes the amount on the card they will skip back to the teacher and get a new card to complete. The

student with the first name that comes first in the alphabet goes and gets the a card from either teacher while the other partner lines up across the line. CUES: Step Extend, Launch, Push, Skip (3-4min) Activity 3: Throwing Lead Passes: Description and Management: The students will return the balls to the stage area and told to keep their partner. Both partners will be told to line up at the the line and the shorter partner will be going out for the pass. For the throwing process we will remind them about the the phones, step, for you cues and that this is a lead pass so they need to pass the ball farther than where their partner is currently and release when their partner looks back and is ready. As the catcher we will, or have a student, demonstrate how to catch by telling them that they need to jog out and when they are ready and want the ball to look back over their shoulder toward their partner with their arms up and cradled. The taller partner will be dismissed to get the ball since they will be throwing the lead pass first. After several minutes the partners will switch the positions of throwing and catching. CUES: the phones, step, for you, shoulder, cradle (8- 9 min) Activity 4: Bag Toss Game: Description and Management: Students will return the football back to the stage area. The students will gather and we will explain the game. We will specify that each set of partners needs a bag and a foam ball. The partners will be standing across from each other, one holding a bag trying to catch the ball, in the bag, being thrown by their partner. The partner throwing will underhand soft toss the ball to their partner who will be trying to get the ball into the bag. One partner will get a bag and the other will get the ball. The partners will line up across for one another and on our cue they will start. After several minutes the partners will switch the positions of throwing and catching. CUES: Step Release. Scoop. (2 min) Closure: Students will put away their equipment and gather in a group. We will choose a couple of passes/throws to ask the students to recite how to throw or catch that specific pass or throw.
