SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT COMMISSION

POST OFFICE BOX 150 / BRANFORD, CONNECTICUT 06405 www.Branford-CT.gov (203) 315-0622 LAURA PANCIERA Solid Waste Supervisor MARIO RICOZZI Chairman

Summer 2012 Dear Thimble Islands Residents: Welcome back for another season on the Islands. And welcome to our contractor, Fischer Excavating. The schedules, methods, and materials are the same but recycling is a little different than on shore, so please read this letter and the flyer carefully, including the 2012 schedule and instructions. During the main season (Memorial Day to Labor Day) collection of garbage is on Mondays and Thursdays, and recycling is on Thursdays. Collection may not always be in the mornings, but could follow high tide. Recycling must be at the dock in your blue box the night before your collection day. There is no change in where you must put your trash or recycling. The boat will not stop if there is no blue box in sight, and won't make special trips if you miss a pick-up. Please confine any dogs which might interfere with the collector. Please be considerate of the collector and use plastic bags thick enough that they wont break from the weight of the garbage or bottles and cans you put in them! The bottles and cans must always be in plastic bags inside your blue bin so they can get them in and out of the boat. Please remember that once collection starts, you may not use the containers on shore for any island refuse. If you have large quantities of materials to dispose of, or any quantity of construction or demolition debris, you must take these materials to the Branford Transfer Station yourself. If you hire contractors to do work for you, make it their responsibility to remove waste materials from the island and dispose of them. Brush should also go directly to the transfer station. For more information for the Branford Transfer Station, please visit www.branford-ct.gov. A summer residence card is required to access the Transfer Station which is available at the Tax office, open Mon. - Fri. 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, phone 315-0672. Bring proof of residency such as a lease or a bill.

Thank you.

Laura Panciera Solid Waste Supervisor
