Clinical Experience: Highlights of professional career in private practice of cardiology with Cardiology Associates of Fairfield County include the following: 1978 - Insertion of the first successful Intra-Aortic Balloon for the management of cardiogenic shock in Fairfield County; expansion of the indications to include unstable pre-infarction angina as well as ischemia induced, intractable ventricular tachycardia; training of the nursing staff & house-staff in the theory and principles of the procedure resulting in improved understanding and improved management of the device. 1980 - Insertion of the first percutaneous in-dwelling pigtail catheter for malignant pericardial effusion. 1982 - First delivery of emergency Intracoronary Streptokinase in a 40-year-old male who had had a previous inferior wall MI and currently presented with a massive anterior wall MI complicated by ventricular fibrillation & shock. 1983 - Insertion of first dual-chambered temporary & permanent pacemaker for atrioventricular sequential pacing in patients presenting with complete heart block. 1990 - First Transesophageal echocardiographic study at Stamford Hospital. 1993 - Establishment of the Heart Institute at the St. Joseph Medical Center in Stamford, CT; appointed associate director. 1990-1997 Member, Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield Medical Advisory Board and CT Hospital Association Panel on Clinical Excellence in Cardiology; intimately involved with the development of clinical guidelines, participated in business issues including marketing, provider relations, physician recruitment, legislative affairs, managed care as well as insurance administration.
