INTRODUCTION
This publication provides administrative (admin.) phone operating instructions for the 5100Series Building Communications Systems (BCS). The publication is divided into sections according to type of operation for easy access to the various functions offered by the system. A Dialing Plan is located in the front. This plan lists the digits that you can legitimately dial to access functions within the system. The Basic Operation section details actual steps required to use basic operations from an Administrative Station. The Advanced Operation section includes additional system functions. These functions require a Level 2 or Level 3 Administrative Station* as well as a 5100-Series BCS Operator Display. Table 2: *Administrative Station Access Levels

ADVANCED OPERATION
The procedures described in this section of the Operating Instructions require a 5100 Administrative Station and a 5100 BCS Operator Display. 5100 Administrative Station An admin. station with a DTMF dial pad is used to select options in the system. The station must possess Level 2 or 3 access (see page 1 for level access list). 5100 BCS Operator Display The 5100 BCS Operator Display is a four-line by 20-character liquid crystal display which is logically connected with an admin. station. The display will visually list options and prompt the user through the system selection process. Note: The 5130 System requires the 5100-Series Programming Tool for full programming.

DIAL PAD KEY ASSIGNMENTS When using the 5100-Series System, various key combinations are required to perform specific functions. The key combinations consist of the * or # key followed by a digit. Figure 1 depicts the key assignments of an admin. phone dial pad used to select various options.

DIAL PAD KEY USE Movement Through the Screens All menu selections are made by pressing a phone key - 1, 2, 3, ... 9 for the desired function (see Figure 1). Pressing * 0 while viewing any screen will return the display to the previously displayed screen.

Scrolling You may view menu and data screens with additional undisplayed lines by scrolling. Scrolling is accomplished with the center column of dial pad keys (2, 5, 8, and 0). A menu screen that contains additional entries will display a down arrow () at the lower right corner of the screen. To view the previous line, press # 2; to view the next line, press # 8. To return to the beginning of the list, press # 5. To begin auto scrolling from the current line, press # 0. To stop auto scrolling, press #.

Cursor Movement Data screens that contain multiple fields or data positions allow left and right cursor movement. Cursor movement is controlled by the 1 and 3 keys on the dial pad. To move the cursor right to the next data position, press * 3. To move the cursor left to the previous data position, press * 1. To move the cursor right to the next data field, press # 3. To move the cursor left to the previous data field, press # 1.

Some data screens require more than one line to display all the data. In which case, the cursor commands will move the cursor to data locations on the next line(s) [char/field right commands] or on the previous line(s) [char/field left commands]. Cursor movement is automatic in most cases during data entry.
