Title of Potential Program: Women on a Journey to Wholeness

This program will provide women of all ages at the Surratts-Clinton Branch library, the opportunity to go on a journey to wholeness, through the use of the many resources available at their local library. This program will serve as a support for helping women better navigate their way through life with a focus on the following areas: Physical Health-how they take care of their bodies Mental Health-how they think Emotional Health-how they feel Volitional Health-what choices they make Relational Health-how they relate to others The group will meet monthly to explore each area through the use of the following resources: Books Books on CD Internet Online Databases DVDs Additional Digital Resources (Overdrive, E-Readers) The program will start out by having a kick off discussion group to provide an overview of the purpose, format, and guidelines. I will also provide a selection of books from which the women may choose to be discussed at the next months meeting. Periodically, we will invite guest speakers, who will share their expertise and offer information about other no to low cost community programs, which will be of benefit to the women. The overall goal of this program is to help make a connection between womens issues, concerns, interests and available public library resources. For each area there will be a related book selected for discussion. The Library Associate/Facilitator will also give a quick introductory lesson on how to access the other resources listed above. This will not only serve to provide information, but will also serve to educate the women on how to utilize available resources, to ensure that they get the most out of their public library. This program will provide the opportunity for the introduction of many different ways that women can access vital information through their public library system to help improve their lives. The Need: Women have many roles and responsibilities which require them to be able to operate efficiently and effectively in every capacity. Unfortunately, these very same roles and responsibilities can take a toll, creating a need for women to assess and evaluate their state of well being This program will provide an opportunity for them to seek out information and resources within their communities to aid in their journey to wholeness. There is a plethora of information in the library, which will aid women in researching, educating, exposing and exploring areas of womanhood, in ways that they may not be familiar. This program will open up a whole new world of information and whole new way of exploration. Community Partners: The following are possible agencies that may cooperate with our efforts: Physical Health-Maryland Parks and Planning (fitness classes, cooking classes, community recreation centers) Emotional & Mental Health-Mental Health Department-(emotionality, mood disorders, cognitive functioning) Relational & Volitional Health-Local Counseling Center-(relationships, choices, consequences) Steps for Setting up the Event: First I must submit a completed Program Planning Worksheet & Approval Form to our Public Services Department. I will also have contact potential speakers and gain approval through Public Services to have them participate in the programs. To obtain promotional materials, I will contact our PR Department. Upon receipt of approval, I will need to select book offerings and prepare handouts of available resources pertaining to the months topic. The group will need a laptop, projector and screen to demonstrate how to navigate the internet, online databases and other media forms. The library will need to provide available e-readers to help the women can become familiar with the library e-book processes. Finally, I will take the necessary steps to book the room at the Surratts-Clinton branch. Program Evaluation: Program attendance and participation will be the means of evaluating the necessity and effectiveness of the program. I will also hand out a survey asking for feedback and requesting input on future topics.
