artistshouse presents the Christmas
MUSIC Compilation
Bev Barnett and Greg Newlon
Bev Barnett and Greg Newlon are two kindred souls who found each other
across a sparkling universe. The liner photo tells the story -- Bev and Greg lean-
ing their faces together, with a heavy line of old-fashioned, large-bulb Christ-
mas lights strung across their shoulders. These two communicate on all sorts
of levels, and the music reflects that superb chemistry.

Ben Walker
I am an entertaining performer, and my ability to play any request (or
make up a new song with the same name) has left crowds baying for
more in pubs and clubs around the country for years. My solo set com-
bines my own compositions, freely interpreted at the piano, and a few
choice covers of obscure pop gems (early Scott Walker, mid Julian Cope,
late Dennis Wilson, etc.).

Andrew Hand
Andrew writes with a passion for lyrical truth, connecting to the listener
drives him forward. His musical journey started at a later stage in life, at the
age of 24. This late start supercharged a voracious appetite to delve deeper
into lyrics and composition through studying theory and writing.

Dunham Van Durham

Dunham Van Durham is an instrumental americana / roots music trio

freddy litwiniuk
His music reflects a dichotomy with a mixture that can’t be pigeon-
holed. It is edgy, yet familiar, melodic, yet original and, much like life,
basic and complex. And that is the essence; he writes real songs
about real things. These are the things that we can all identify with:
love and loss, happiness and despair, hurt and redemption.

MUSIC
Carla Lynne Hall
NYC Singer songwriter Carla Lynne Hall has been described as "Norah Jones meets
Sade for tea on their way to visit The Beatles".
Her a capella recording of "Silent Night" was recorded "quick and dirty style" on her
laptop, exclusively for the Artists House holiday compilation. Afterall, she is the self-
proclaimed DIY diva.

Jana Mashonee
Native American by birth and heritage, contemporary artist through hard
work, destiny and the spirits, Jana brings a fresh outlook and exotic style to
today’s music. Jana refers to her cultural anomaly as “Urban Indian”. Her
striking looks, and powerful voice coupled with the sensibilities of pop,
R&B, world and gospel music create a compelling new mix that seduces
your ear and overwhelms your senses.

John Anealio
John Anealio writes songs about science fiction and fantasy. Alternate-
tuned acoustic guitar picking, soaring synthesizers, and catchy pop
hooks power his odes to androids, princesses, and vampires.

Josh Belville
Imagine the wit and charm and comedy of Moxy Fruvous mixed
with the wit and charm of the Decemberists, and the wit and
charm and awesomeness of They Might Be Giants, and you'll
have what I would like to sound like. Currently, I'm just a guy with
a guitar. Reachin' for the stars! Oh, and if I could write lyrics like
John Darnielle I would be happy too.

Naima Johnston
What I've learned, what I love to sing and share is simply this, the
awesome, amazing, Lord of Creation died just for me, and just for
you and He is more then everything, He is simply enough!

Robin Kirby
My father once told me, "Robin find something in life that you love to do and
do it! If you love what you do you will definitely be good at it." He bought me
my first guitar when I was 10 years old. I have been performing and writing
ever since. I found music or maybe it found me. The songs I write are about
life! I like to share my life experiences as well as others, so I write songs that I
feel people can relate to from their own life experiences.

MUSIC
SECRETARY (Moist Paula Henderson)
I got the name "Moist" Paula when I formed the band Moisturizer with Moist
Gina Rodriguez in 1998. Up until then I had been having fun playing sax with a
lot of great bands and musicians in Australia and New York, many of whom I
still play with. Currently working on the solo saxtronic project, Secretary.

Josh Charles
I’m just trying to write songs that move people and have something to say.
Thankfully, I’ve been blessed to find a lyricist named Ric Steel who brings
out the heart and soul of the human spirit with his words. If my music
makes you feel sad, joyous, or anything else after hearing it, then I guess
I’ve done my job. When I get onstage to perform, well that’s the only place
in the world I want to be at that time. I will give you everything I have and
more because that is what I do — Play like it’s the last show I’ll ever do!

Tom St. Louis

Tom St. Louis oozes music he said to himself. Well, anyway, he writes a lot of
music. Songs that is. Songcatcher more than songwriter. Currently, he said, “I
wants to get my songs in movies, see?” Tchyeah, he can write ‘em…happy to
customize, Mr. Coppola. Just give me at least ten minutes notice. I wrote one
jingle once. I did not feel dirty. It was a nineteen second jingle and it took nine-
teen seconds to write. If you beg me nice, I’ll send it to you. It was pretty darn
good.

Tracy has been a songwriter throughout her television career and recently released
her first CD, “A Place in the Sun.” (www.cdbaby.com/cd/tracynewman.) She works
with two other singers – Gene Lippmann and Lorie Doswell,
(www.loriedoswell.com.) Tracy is also a founding member of the very successful Los
Angeles improvisation group, The Groundlings. (www.groundlings.com.) She per-
formed, taught and often directed shows there for the first 15 years of its existence.

Bryan Fields
Bryan’s calculated vocals draw comparisons to some of his contemporary influ-
ences - James Taylor, Bruce Cockburn, and David Wilcox - while his precisely-
picked guitar work owes more to an experience he had when he was young:
“My parents took me to a Chet Atkins concert when I was three and I was mes-
merized.“ Though his songwriting seeds were sewn as a youth, it took a 1983
Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Maryville College in Tennessee, a
1987 Master of Divinity from Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary in
Kentucky, and a career as a local church pastor and campus minister to send
him in the direction he’s headed these days.

Eric Strom

MUSIC
John Labelle
“Singer John Labelle, who performs regularly in Montreal, takes chances and is
jazz-oriented in his vocals... The quartet, performing without any set arrange-
ments, is quite spontaneous, but, due to its experience of having played together
often through the years, its members communicate with each other very quickly.
Labelle often operates as one of the musicians rather than standing apart as the
star and his warm voice makes this a set worth the search.” ~ Scott Yanow, AMG

Donald Berry
"Manger Angel" tells the epic story of a small Angel with a big responsibility.

A traditional Ear Lick presented by YrLic Music.

Hector Zick Zack and Death Ray

At the turn of the century I wanted to write a christmas song about the
least Christmassy thing possible. Once I'd settled on Space Zombies, the
song wrote itself. Check the video on YouTube: http://tinyurl.com/a3tp2r
