Students Book, Oxford University Press, 2002 Unit: Progress and Change Topic: Tomorrows World Main focus: Reading and writing skills Time: 50 minutes Aims: General: - to practise reading -to grasp the main ideas of a text - to introduce vocabulary concerning the future - to practise writing a short text Language functions: - to identify/guess unknown words - to search for specific vocabulary items - to match words with definitions Assessment activity: The students will be assessed on class participation. Resources and materials: textbook, blackboard, handouts with vocabulary exercises, pictures Activity 1: Warmer Aims: - to warm Ss up Timing: 5 minutes Interaction: T-S Procedure: T checks homework. T asks questions regarding the last lesson .

Activity 2: Lead-in Aims: - to get Ss into the new topic Timing: 3 minutes Interaction: T-S Procedure: T asks Ss to talk about the future: How do you think the world will look like in a hundred years? What will people look like? Activity 3: Introducing the new topic Aims: -to let the Ss guess what the lesson is about by looking at the pictures in the textbook Timing: 2 minutes Interaction: T-S Procedure: T asks the Ss to open their textbooks and guess what the lesson is about. Activity 4: Reading/Vocabulary Aims: -to improve pronunciation -to improve the ability of comprehending a text Timing: 5 minutes Interaction: T-S Procedure: T reads the text. Ss listen. T asks Ss to read the text in the textbook. Each S reads one sentence. T asks students if they have encountered unknown words. T explains the words and makes Ss guess the definition, when possible. Activity 5: Vocabulary Aims: -to practise matching words with definitions -to check the comprehension of the text Timing: 5 min Interaction: S-S, T-S Procedure: T asks to look at an exercise from the textbook. T explains the task. Ss are given 5 minutes to solve the exercise. It is pair work. Each S answers in turn and also writes the answer on the blackboard. T corrects the mistakes. Activity 6: Comprehension Aims: -to look for specific information in the text -to answer questions regarding the text Timing: 5 min Interaction: T-Ss. S-S Procedure: T asks to look at an exercise from the textbook. T explains the task. Ss are given 5 minutes to solve the exercise. It is pair work. T corrects the mistakes. Activity 7: Practice: Vocabulary

T explains the task, i.e. to watch the video about the Japanese cars. Ss are asked questions regarding the cars they saw and what they expected to see. T corrects the mistakes and helps with the discussion. Activity 9: Practice: New information Aims: -to make use of the new grammar structures -to use vocabulary Timing:5 minutes Interaction: T-Ss. S-S Procedure: T asks to look at a grammar box. T explains the language focus chart. Ss are given 5 minutes to solve the exercise. It is individual work. Each S answers in turn and also writes the answer on the blackboard. T corrects the mistakes. Activity 10: Reading Aims: -to improve pronunciation -to improve the ability of comprehending a text Timing: 5 minutes Interaction: T-S Procedure: T reads the text. Ss listen. Ss are assigned their homework, i.e. to write a paragraph to say what they will be doing their next birthdays. T asks Ss to close their textbooks and copybooks. T asks questions related to the new lesson.
